Reviews Bamboo House

My craving for Vietnamese food led us to have dinner here tonight. We had our dog with us so I searched Vietnamese spots that offer outdoor seating. Google showed me Bamboo House and so we decided to give this place a try! Service was friendly and SUPER quick! Did not have to wait long at all to get our Appetizer (Salad Rolls) and Pho orders. I appreciated them bringing out Sriracha and Hoisin Sauce as well as ice cold water without me even asking. The salad rolls were perfection! My partner ordered the Rib Pho and I ordered the Bamboo House Pho. The broth was flavourful - not too salty and not bland, just the perfect beef broth! They also don’t skimp out on the toppings. The rib was so tender and pretty much just fell off the bone. It’s rare for me to write a review the very same day I’ve dined at a restaurant so I think that speaks volumes on how much I enjoyed our visit here! I can’t wait to come back for more pho. 10/10 highly recommend. Support AAPI businesses!

The delicious food, soothed my weary soul today. Chicken salad was crispy, savory, tangy, & spicy. Would love to try it with shrimp or tofu next time. Wonton soup was light, savory, piping hot. Friendly service and hospitality. Can't wait to bring my wife back for dinner and try the chicken wings and more 😋

Got take out for an afternoon picnic. Place was quiet just before 12pm and was able to walk in and out in less then 10 mins. Ordered Bahn Mi--exceptionally lovely pork, and the Rib Pho--delicious!! The sandwich-Bahn Mi is filling and we could have eaten just that between my sister and I. We had leftover pho and Bahn Mi. We also loved the Thai iced tea, of course! The staff was very helpful while I had trouble setting up my payment app and my food was out super quick! Thanks!

What a gem of SE Portland!! Truly baffles me how this place is not packed to the brim at every hour with customers—the quality and quantity of food at very reasonable prices keeps us coming back! I especially love their vermicelli combo bowl and my bf loves their pho — the broth is so rich and tasty!!

I had the Oxtail Pho and Braised Pork w/eggs and salad rolls before and enjoyed them so I came back. This time I had 35.Shaking Beef, 22.Seafood Fried Rice and 9.Wontons in Chili Oil. We had the Shaking Beef with a very good sauce and the beef was very firm, but I think the Shaking Beef is about the same consistency in all restaurants, so for us it wasn't a particularly tough bite. (The Shaking Beef had a very good sauce and the Beef was not very tender but not hard to chew (much softer than the Shaking Beef at "Luc Lac Vietnamese Kitchen"). The fried rice was dark in color, but tasted more elegant than it looked. The Beef Stew Noodle Soup is also a seasonal item. I will come back to try it next time. It is hard to park a car in this area, but the fact that this restaurant has a parking lot helps with that as well. 🚙 I also saw a picture on the wall for beef stew noodle soup, so next time I will come back for that.🤤

This place is our go to for seriously delicious Vietnamese food. All of the veggie and shrimp dishes are so good. For a warming winter broth, the spicy veggie noodle soup hits the spot. It's chock full of basil and fresh veggies, and the spice comes on the side so nothing to fear for the more mild palate'd folk. The tofu lemongrass vermicelli is a wonderful summer dish, the mungbean spring rolls they come with are the perfect accompaniment. I'm honestly always surprised that this place isn't more packed considering the high quality of food. Is it the window paintings that scare people away? No clue. Would love to support it more. The servers are super friendly and the food is spot on. The atmosphere inside is homey and pleasant. Give them a try!

The food is pretty delicious here! Been back twice in 2 weeks even though they're still on their soft opening. The pho rib is so good and totally worth the price. I think it's the best bang for your buck, you get the whole bone and all the meat on it. It's super tender and comes right off. The salt and pepper calamari is a favorite of mine wherever I go and this rings true for here as well! The wings are a great appetizer, flavors are good and texture is good. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the face that you get shrimp puff Crackers while you wait for your food to come out. I can't wait for their full menu to try the ox tail Pho and other dishes. Definitely worth giving it a shot!

The combination vermicelli bowl was awesome! Layers of pork, chicken, noodles, bean sprouts, and pickled vegetables, with prawns and an imperial roll on top. Will gladly go back again for more. My only complaint was that the bowl was too small for all the ingredients. So much was packed in that there was no room to mix it together. Not a bad problem to have!

In a constantly changing Portland food landscape, it's refreshing to see change in the form of one generation handing off a business to another. This new iteration is more focused on Vietnamese dishes than the Thai menu of its predecessor, and everything is done beautifully. Service was attentive and friendly, with recommendations freely offered to both ourselves and to nearby tables. My wife found her vermicelli bowl to be equal to our other favorite places, and I tried the 'shaking beef', which came with grilled onions that I found to be the highlight of our visit. I'm looking forward to multiple return trips to explore more of the menu. It's good to see that a neighborhood stalwart will continue under a new name with some welcome changes.

Eaten here 3 times so far. Everything we have tried is fantastic. The vegetarian pho, crispy tofu, vegetarian spicy noodle soup, sweet and sour soup, and the garlic tofu eggplant are fantastic. This is one of my 2 favorite Vietnamese restaurants in the city. Service is friendly and fast. Takeout experience is easy. Restaurant has comfy street market inspired décor. Keep up the great work!

Cool spot on Hawthorne to grab some lunch if you want some Vietnamese food. It's nice that they have a parking lot and outdoor seating option. My colleague and I ordered pho from here..he had the Bamboo House special and I had the oxtail pho. The pho was pretty good and came out quick, which I liked. The oxtail pho had good flavors and I enjoyed my oxtail.

My experience here was absolutely wonderful. They greet you promptly as you enter, and they seat you quickly. They are very friendly and responsive, and the service is very fast. For those who appreciate value, they have a lunch special which adds an egg roll or soup to your meal from 11am to 3pm. The food was wonderful as well. The flavor was both familiar and new at the same time. I highly recommend this place.

Excellent food, have been here several times, tofu banh mi is the favorite, skewers are great, love the peanut sauce and the shrimp chips you get when dining in. Cocktails also very good, recommend both the OMG and peach sour.

This is truly a secret gem in the neighborhood. I came here for lunch and I had to come back here for dinner on the same day. I wanted to try all their food. I ordered the house pho and their bun rieu, the broth was incredible. I got the wonton soup as well

Braised pork and eggs dish was delicious! Heads up that it's actually on the menu as caramelized pork and eggs but it's the braised pork in the feature photo. Hearty dish with plenty of pork, very tender, savory broth, perfect for cold days. My husband ordered the crab noodle soup and it's definitely an acquired taste. It doesn't really taste like crab and just tastes like a heavy amount of shrimp paste. But hey the food here is still delicious, he just ordered something that wasn't his personal taste. Portions were huge. Prices were great! Staff was friendly. Service was fast. Place was clean. We will definitely go back again and try more of the menu.
