I love Captain's Quarters! It's a great place to unwind after a busy week. It has the best patio in Louisville! On weekends, in the summer months, I enjoy going there for the live bands. The food and atmosphere are awesome!
Friends suggested Captain's Quarters for a luncheon when we were visiting Louisville this weekend. The visit was really very nice at Captains Quarters. The food was excellent, the location was perfect and company was the best. We will come back again next time to enjoy an evening of laughter and dancing on the river. Thanks for a really nice time and great food and drinks.

We had a great time. Charlie our waiter was the tops. The food was outstanding. Thanks for a great time.
Captain's Quarters is just an all around great place. It has great food, drinks and an awesome atmosphere:-)
The view, the food & the atmosphere is always great when I eat here. I came Saturday and it was a long wait so I left and came back Tuesday after work, great way to end a long day.
I love coming here to dine or just have drinks and watch the boats pulling in and out of the marina!
Love this place, wonderful service, great view, Louisville tradition, decent prices, delicious food, great drinks, multiple seating options for every time of year. Treat yourself to lunch, at minimum, at least annually at Captain's Quarters!
Make sure you have a reservation. Very long wait if you don't. The atmosphere is fantastic the building and adornments are first rate. I ordered the mahi mahi pacific rim style. It was good nothing special. I didn't care for the spaghetti noodles they used to accompany the dish. The flavors were good but just standard nothing stood out really. We'll be back but outside of the amazing bar nothing was remarkable.
I think this place is one of the best in town. The service that they offer to the boats is awsome. The mahi mahi taco is really good. Every time i order the same because it's a really good size, taste and presentation fish taco.
Been to captains many times and have to say they gave us a reason to be disappointed every time.Used to love this place before the menu changed.Clearly no vegetarian options on the menu now as I went with a veg friend.
Anyway I go there for the ambience, riverside view, calm environment and not to leave their cheap LIT regular shelf lol.
Can't complain.
Cheers.
I have been to Captains Quarter’s a few times in the past to visit its bar area and thought it was a nice place as far as that. My family decided to go there to eat as a treat on my birthday so I wanting to see the food options, price etc… before going and in doing so read a few of the negative reviews.
My brother and I decided to go ahead early to check it out, my birthday my choice.
As we were getting out of the car three gigantic tour buses arrived, and it was a Friday, hmm.
As it was pretty warm out I wanted to eat in the dining area but we were told it was reservations only, so I questioned them as to why I wasn’t able to make a reservation on the internet sight and was a bit put off until the young lady explained the actual dining room has been completely booked for a few months, which I am glad she did that makes sense, I hadn’t called.
As I was lagging behind my brother was able to land a booth in the bar area with a nice view as two ladies were leaving and it would fit our party, I was pleased.
The young server who came to us did so promptly, was pleasant to the eyes and had a very congenial attitude as she quickly brought us the drinks, and menus we asked for assuring us it would be no problem to wait about a half an hour for the rest.
When they arrived she returned promptly taking our orders; I had a Hot Brown, the rest had various fish entries. All of our food arrived timely, my Hot Brown was very good and hot as were the others fish, the server made sure we had plenty of drinks, and this was in a very busy but pleasant bar food area. I was very pleased with the time we spent eating as well as checking out the boats in the river area, and the shapely well dressed women my age in the band area.
So… I would never order a $30.00 Sea Bass diner in a bar food area to start with even on my birthday when someone else was paying, and if you do…find another shoulder to cry on.
My only regret is that two months of other fine dinners had the sixth sense to make a reservation two months ahead of me… as I was ready for some Pan-Seared Jumbo Scallops, Sautéed spinach with bacon over smoked Gouda grits, with bell pepper and broccoli all accompanied by a few bottles of Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio (my brother was paying).
Oh how life can be so hard, on the river, with beautiful women, good food, and boats, did I mention boats……………..
Mom's surpirse Bday party at CQ. We had about 65 people for drinks and appetizers at Captain's Quarters and it was PERFECT. The Masterson's handled everything flawlessly, including helping us find a jazz trio to play in the bar area near the very cool fireplace!
We did a rehearsal dinner several years ago on the CQ Princess, so we knew we could trust them to take great care of us on land or water!
Andrew Masterson handled all of the details pesonally, and even with a much larger event they were running at the same time (cyclocross event) Andrew made time to stop in and check in on us, which showed how important each party is to them. Their reputation has always been solid, and this type of ownership involvement is why!
The food was perfect, the green chili wontons were the highlight, and out guests were raving about the set up. The buffet was beautiful and delicious. Plenty of room, and such a nice backdrop for an informal evening of celebration. Mike the bartender was terrific, and there were servers all over us, plenty of help and we wanted for nothing!
The pricing was really good with the hosted bar package, well worth it, and we didn't even come close to running out of food, they made sure we were all stuffed, happy, and could concentrate on the celebration rather than how the function was running. They really know thier stuff. We got a lot of compliements on how "you guys know how to throw a party!"
Thanks CQ Riverside for a great event, we will definately do this again!
Food was ok, not great but selection was more limited than expected.
Atmosphere on the other hand is great! On the river with boats at the doc. Worth a visit.
Enjoyed the view. This was a beautiful outdoor setting on the Ohio River for a summer Sunday birthday lunch with family. We sat on the deck and ate from the buffet and it was not wonderful, but good enough. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting outside on the back lawn after we ate, watching the boats come and go. The prices were reasonable for the buffet although I didn't look at the regular menu. Our family thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant for our get together.
Great location and good food. The food is slightly overpriced, but the atmosphere is worth it. Everyone should visit this Louisville institution at least once.
Awesome place. Great views, cool history, yummy food, friendly locals.
Love this place. The mastersons family is probably one of the most professional group of management. I have been accomodated in every occasion when asked. Food is great, reasonably priced and the location is fantastic. Only gripe is the service is hit or miss. Somedays they make you feel welcome but on a couple of occasions, not so much. Overall, I will be back.
Great view. We got to sit outside along the Ohio River on a nice day. Saved some money with a Groupon I purchased a few months earlier. Started out with the Captain's Banana Peppers. The were served whole instead of sliced. Nice taste with the bistro or marinera sauce. Had their fish sandwich, served on a thick slice of rye bread. They're just a little smaller than the ones served at Mike Linnigs, which are huge. The cold slaw wasn't the best but I liked the Derby Pie for dessert. They could use a more expanded seafood menu since it is a waterfront restaurant. They did a great job remodeling the place after the 2011 flood.
Nice fish sandwich. Hi US folks,
Myself and the folks went to CQ's the other day for lunch. We sat outside on the nice deck area with great weather. Each of us ordered the fish Sandwich which came with chips, pickle and cole slaw. Our server was prompt, got the order right and delivered the food without a long wait. The fish sandwich was two pieces of generous size, well breaded, moist and nice cod texture. The only aspect was the cole slaw had too much onion which over powered the dish. Overall, a nice lunch and certainly would go back.
Summer patio is outstanding, ambiance of Ohio River and boats. Get there early on Fridays! Equally pretty in winter - well lit riverside, very quiet! Food moderately priced, good service!
Food Solid but Great place to go. This place is fun to go to and sit by the river. The food is always satisfying, nothing speacial but I go back.
