My wife and I have celebrated our wedding anniversary there for 20 years. We also go whenever we can get a reservation. This year we made our reservation two weeks in advance.
Start with drinks overlooking the ocean, on the lawn. Every dish there is special as is the service the atmosphere. We have never had a dining experience , there that wasn't just perfect.
Not too many places I can say that about.
Restaurant review:
What a wonderful night! Here are my thoughts after dining for the first time. (September 2023)
First of all, Jonny and Stephanie are amazing.
Drinks and oysters - the dirty martini is the perfect balance of brine and juice and olives and vodka. I always get a "Dirty Kettle" and compliments to the bartender and the server for bringing them out perfectly timed to pair with the oysters. (And yes we got bread and butter perfectly timed just before).
Food is sublime:
Highly recommend the crawfish seafood fresh pasta special and the duck, after either the lobster sliders or the soup. We went for the Lobster and Corn chowder as a second course after wellfleet oysters. Soup was rich, meaty, and just the right level of tomato essence and spice.
Food is fresh, delicious and five star service for everything from plating to execution and thoughtful clearing.
Intrinsically sophisticated,
yet approachable and friendly: that's the vibe I got.
Ask for Stephanie or Tommy as your server.(both amazing, we had Stephanie for the evening) and make sure to see if Jonny is the bartender who can truly surprise you with his skills of custom drinks.
Above and Beyond:
Special shout out to Jonny for making the perfect dirty martini to go with my wellfleet oysters, yes i am saying it again because it was *that* good. Thank you to Stephanie for making sure to give me perfect recommendations with my food allergies and preferences (even confirming with the chef/kitchen without me prompting) along with timing everything in the right order especially given the fact that we were the last table seated, but felt like we had all the time in the world and were completely at ease.
Comment on other reviews:
(Not sure why there are so many recent low reviews, we had an amazing romantic date night and never felt rushed or sent anything back)
For those of you wanting a seaside restaurant that is more focused on pomp and stiff "butler type folded napkin when you stand service" , I have some "mewsings" about where you can go on the other side of town - We would pick The Red Inn over other options any day of the week.
Overall impression:
We loved the approachable luxury vibe, and the caring, genuine touches at The Red Inn our server took to make sure our dining experience surpassed expectations. Always there when we needed her but never felt intruded upon or interrupted - this is what fine dining is at it's best. From the timing of our 3-4 courses to the wine pairings and the flavorful food, everything was perfect. The Red Inn is where those "in the know" will continue to go!
Thank you Stephanie!!
This review is for the restaurant.
This is truly a special place! We arrived for our 7 o'clock reservation last night, but were told our table wasn't ready. We went out on the back deck and ordered drinks and just watched the ocean. It was about a half an hour wait, which we didn't mind that much because of the view. When we were seated, I knew then why we had to wait. When I made the reservation, I asked for a table with a view and that's exactly what we got. Request number one honored. This place was jamming! There were lots of people and they had lots of staff working very hard. All of the staff were very friendly. I started with the cold potato soup and my partner had half of a dozen little neck clams. Both were very good although I made a joke with our server asking if my cold potato soup could be heated in the microwave because it was actually a very chilly evening. She started taking me serious and I just laughed and I said oh, we're only playing a joke on you. My partner had the shrimp and grits, and I had the filet mignon for our entrées. Both were cooked perfectly to our liking. It doesn't happen that often that a restaurant does everything right on all of the orders, but this place was spot on. After our table was cleaned, our server brought over forks and I looked at her and said oh, are we ordering dessert and she replied I guess so. She brought over the most wonderful looking bread pudding with a candle in it. Bingo, request number two honored. When I made the reservation, I said that we are celebrating our birthdays. We usually do this every year, we try to go away in between our birthdays and find one nice place for dinner. This was our last night on Cape Cod and this was our special place for celebrating. If you're looking for that special place for a special dinner, this is the restaurant! Thank you everyone that works very hard to make this place a great restaurant!
Came for the food, high end spot with amazing bay views. Got the roasted duck and it was irresistible. Served with a citrus marmalade glaze that brought the dish to a new level. The asparagus were thin and a little droopy but overall still an amazing meal.
Over three visits, this very lovely restaurant with the best water view IMO, is a great choice. Highlights were the cocktails, anything on the Raw Bar menu, the Pan roasted free range Chicken, the Shrimp/Crawfish pasta special, and the Pan roasted local Cod. The Pepper crusted Filet Mignon and a la carte Sirloin were overcooked. Gazpacho was over-red onioned to the extreme. That said, great service each visit and enjoy it immensely overall.
We intended to just have drinks here but ended up having dinner. Jadynne could not have been a better server. The Halibut was tender (had it cooked medium) and the fettuccine Alfredo pasta had just the right kick.
Start with a seafood platter to get a taste of the cape. Be sure to bring bug spray in the evening!
My favorite restaurant ever!!! I have been there many times over the past 20 years and is consistently excellent. A little noisy this time but I think there was a large, happy group.
The Red Inn is my favorite vacation spot on the Cape. Rooms, views, staff, and food make the Inn a great destination. I'm looking forward to next year.
Delicious, vibrant atmosphere. Get there a few minutes early for a drink on porch rocking chairs. Service very attentive. Food outstanding. We visit annually while in Ptown. Reservations highly recommended, very popular.
Update Aug 2023
Back to the Red Inn again. The service and staff are still doing a great job here. We dropped into the 2pm happy hour and within 15 minutes the bar was full and people were waiting outside.
The craft cocktails were fantastic and the panko shrimp was fab and of course the oysters are not to be missed.
The atmosphere is festive and all the staff is friendly and highly efficient. Ive never stayed the Inn overnight but it might be fun.
Our compliments to the staff and kitchen service for doing what they do. Great job folks!
Hope to see you next time we visit.

We stopped by for the legendary happy hour where oysters are half priced. Small and briney make them perfect raw oysters. No crackers needed! Facility was quaint but clean and well ran. Service was good and the staff was friendly. They have a great location on the west side of p-town, right on the water too. Covered outdoor seating is available. We had the crabmeat sliders, oysters, oysters brochettes and a shrimp po-boy. All the food was good, maybe a little pricey but no more than other places here. Great happy hour!
We will definitely be back.

Our server was absolutely exceptional. The ceviche and filet were perfect. I will definitely go back
Great outdoor deck but they should add some smaller chairs that you could move around for larger parties
Happy hour at the Red Inn is one of the loveliest ways to pass an afternoon with friends. Fantastic cocktails, amazing seafood and great views. ¿Por qué no?
Had dinner here tonight, so happy they’re open again for the season. Lana was spectacular. Thank you for a great meal. The vegetable bread pudding was the star dish.
Lanna was a fantastic server absolutely amazing accommodating our every request. She was a delightful girl working to pay for nursing school. Just when we thought the service was already over the top. A botanist that they conveniently have on staff walks over with a fresh glass of water and pruners to trim my Peony we had purchased up the street. WOW!!! The oysters were absolutely perfect. We came for happy hour and stayed for 3 courses. Refreshing cocktails and mouth watering food. I highly recommend the picnic table out front it's private and you can people watch. We had a wonderful afternoon there.
Was there with my wife and another couple and a friend for happy hour. Great service from our Bulgarian transplant waiter. Great personality great service. The bartender Bobby and the rest of the staff are also very friendly and helpful. The host at the front podium is also very helpful and courteous. When you're there check out some of the artwork on the walls.
Talking about the restaurant. Might be my fav. In Provincetown. The food, the service, the atmosphere.. . Coming back here every time I'm in town
Food and drinks were really great! Such a nice place for a nice dinner away from the hustle of Commercial- which I love in its own right.
