For total transparency, I slightly know the owners of this restaurant, as they are local to Redmond and their daughter goes to the same school as my children. However, this is not the reason for my 5 star rating.
Woodblock just opened this past Monday, so there were a few hiccups with service, but that's typical for any new restaurant. My review is mainly focused on atmosphere and the most important part - the food!
Our family moved to Redmond from Phoenix - and if you've visited Phoenix you know the local food scene is pretty amazing. Incredible restaurants all over the place with great food, drinks, and atmosphere - it's one thing I miss about living there! Sitting in Woodblock with my family last night, I felt like it could fit right in with any one of the hippest restaurants in Phoenix. Cool art on the walls, great open spaces, and the hanging lights create quite the ambiance.
Next: the food! Kiddos ordered buttered noodles and a fruit bowl - the fruit bowl was fresh and very generous and the buttered noodles were devoured. My son did say they were 'very buttery' however he is quite particular about his food (and it didn't stop him from eating all of it!)
My husband ordered the happy hour Woodblock burger - a burger topped with cheese and pork belly. I didn't try it but he enjoyed it - and he can also be quite particular about his food! For myself, I tried the Woodblock punch (on happy hour) which was refreshing - not a fruit punch, but more of take on lemonade, making it a delightful surprise!
I ordered the Braised Ox-Tail Butternut Squash Risotto after seeing a photo of it posted on Facebook last week - and it exceeded all my expectations. Is the idea of eating a cow's tail a little weird to you? Don't let it be! The meat is just like any other braised meat you've ever had - tender and full of delicious flavor - plus it's sourced locally! The risotto is creamy and filled with squash, spinach, and mushrooms and has a hint of cinnamon (I think) - there's something that plays so delightfully off the butternut squash and ox-tail flavors that I can't quite place. No matter what this secret ingredient is, it kicks in at the tail end of your bite and is a great addition to the dish.
I have to say, I also LOVE the fries. I don't know why, but it seems that most of the newer 'hip' restaurants in Redmond have no idea how to make fries. Woodblocks are the perfect ratio of potato inside to crispy outside. Not too thin, where they get cold and gross super fast, and not too fat, where the inside is mushy and also gross. Well done, Woodblock! I'm not sure if they're house-made or pre-made but either way, with the garlic shallot salt and yummy dipping sauces (harissa and garlic aioli), they're fantastic.
We will FOR SURE be back - glad to see such a great restaurant in Redmond, owned by Redmond residents!

We decided to try the Wooodblock for our 24th wedding anniversary. I liked the concept of small plates being shared and that is exactly what we did! We had the charcuterie board which was a very nice variety. We ordered the scotch egg which was delicious, the calamari, the cauliflower, the carrots, and The grilled Caesar salad. We finished with the bananas Foster bread pudding and the German chocolate tiramisu and we each had some drinks. We thought that overall the food and service were outstanding. From the hostess to the manager everyone was friendly and efficient. We didn't have to wait for our server to come, everyone helped each other out it seemed. As our food came up, it seemed that anyone was that was right there grabbed it and brought it to our table so it was fresh. Our table was private enough that we could just visit between ourselves or we could engage with the table next to us, which we did. We really enjoyed the flavorful dishes. I mean, who tosses carrots in maple syrup, fennel, ricotta, thyme, walnuts, balsamic? It was delicious! We will recommend this restaurant to our friends and be back.
If I could give Woodblock over 5 starts, I would.
The craft cocktails are top shelf. Amazing concoctions for all tastebuds.
The food is perfectly prepared, locally sourced and artfully plated. Every bite was divine!
The service was A+. Our waitress had educated input on cocktails that we would enjoy most and which menu items would satisfy or tastebuds. And the owners treated us like their closest friends. I want to eat at Woodblock every single night.
Go, eat, drink and enjoy!
I always love eating here! Good food, the bar is great, can be a long wait for a table, but so worth it! Mule and burger are a favourite, but the halibut was to die for!
This place is amazing. Best whiskey and bourbon selection. And food is beyond incredible. No chain type food here! Amazing
Simply one of the best burgers I've ever eaten (woodblock burger) fries were amazing, servers cared about everyone coming in. When I visit from Spokane again I will definitely stop here. Must visit.
Woodblock rocks! From magnificent martinis and happy hour smiles to a menu that's raved about for miles, we love this place filled with ambiance, gracious space and great tastes!
Fantastic! I highly recommend ! The food was delicious and the servers were so friendly. So many good choices of food to choose from- good to get several options and share!
Celebrated my birthday here with family. We tried Scotch eggs, Cajun Mussels, the Burger, and pan-roasted whole Trout. Amazingly great tasting food! For dessert we had the Bananas Foster bread pudding, Scoop and Shot, and caramel ice cream - all outstanding and worth every single calorie! The service was impeccable, making our visit memorable. Can't wait to go back!
Love this place! The staff and owners are all about customer service! The food is delicious and when you add a special cocktail you know you'll be back!
Both the food and the service was amazing!!! I highly recommend this restaurant.
Great atmosphere, attentive staff and delicious food! Love the Lost in Tijuana drink!
Everything was great, food, drink, service. Made the night celebrating my wife's birthday a truely great experience. Bartenders were knowledgeable on the many whiskeys that are available to choose from which was nice. Been to too many place that carry great variety and no one could tell you a thing, not the case here.
The lamb shank was amazing. My wife had the brisket and gnocchi which was out of this world. Great beer selection. It was everything we wanted in an evening!
Great food, great service, great vibe. Couldn't ask for a better place for our large group.
Great food, drinks and the best bar tenders in Redmond! Sorry Prime:(((
Woodblock has a pretty unique veggie burger made with a falafel patty. The hostess was able to get that made for me despite missing in the diner menu, so maybe just ask for it. The burger tasted fantastic and the fries were just right.
I got a table in the heated tent on the street, it was a nice setting overall.
Nice ambience. And good food. Portions are large. Usually crowded in the evenings. But easy to get seated even on weekends. Parking on streets available. Burgers were yummy! We tried the spicy chicken burger & the vegetarian option. The fries were delicious!
We ate outside so didn’t get a chance to experience their indoor seating. Outside was not very comfortable though and they could benefit from a getting more comfortable chairs and tables. Our table was a little shaky. Apart from that, the waitress was very enthusiastic and funny which made the experience much more enjoyable. Their crab cake Benedict was so good I had to get another order. I would come back here but opt for indoor seating next time.
Delicious breakfast/brunch here the other day. Had scotch egg with falafel bites, truffle fries, steak and eggs, breakfast tacos, mimosas, coffee, old fashioned, and Bloody Mary. Only giving four stars cause the old fashioned was weak and the Bloody Mary was not good. Everything else was wonderful!
Great place and food! The brisket gnocchi are definitely to come back for! I got the tomato soup as well which was good too.
They also have interesting combinations of cocktail/soda water; i tried the spiced persimmon one, new flavor.
The food was so good and definitely hefty. I ordered the Mac n cheese with chicken breast added on top and the flavors were immaculate. The only downside though it was difficult to flag down a waiter if we needed something like an extra fork or the bill. There were many staff present but for some reason none of them were near the dining tables. Charcuterie board was delicious though!
I totally recommend this place, and I’m defiantly coming back!
The service was a delight! We arrived around 1pm and we were sited in 10 minutes, then a very nice, friendly, and attentive waitress took care of us.
The food came quick, perfectly cooked, and it was delicious
We order a couple things to try, and they were great! I got the fried chicken sandwich, and the truffle fries and it paired perfectly! We also had the octopus and the mushroom omelet, but o wasn’t quick enough to make a picture of it.
Again, if you have the chance, go try this place!
Good god the food here is amazing. The SERVICE IS EXCELLENT! Everyone was so friendly. Food was quick and prices reasonable. The burger was legit and juicy. Aioli for the fries was perfect. Fresh toppings. The baked Brie with blackberries and toasted bread was AMAZING! I can’t wait to go back!
