Nicki and her ladies truly make this space a special place with down home cooking that always makes you want to come back every week.
Brief Escape is truly a very special and unique dining experience. Want some delicious southern cook'n from scratch in a cozy homelike atmosphere, this is it. Miss Nicky will make you feel right at home.
Excellent food with 4 courses, soup, salad, entree and dessert and service like no other restaurant around. It's a step back in time like going to grandma's with walls full of antiques and what-nots. Much like being at home not some noisy chain restaurant. My son (7) enjoyed reading some kids books that was near by when he finished eating. My family will be back. The owner is so sweet and an awesome cook.
Word of mouth will tell you that this place isn't just a great place to eat - that it's a experience. That is exactly what this place is!
Brief Escape is the very definition of a Hidden Gem, tucked out of the way in a small town disguised as an inconspicuous home down a side street. That is one of the beautiful things about it, it's there - but you have to know what you're looking for.
I don't have to tell you the food is amazing, you've probably heard it before or you wouldn't have looked this place up. They serve a four course meal here, and they give you just a few options.
This time it started with a small side salad with ranch. Crisp lettuce and the familiar flavor of a good ranch dressing.
Next a sizable bowl of Chicken Noodle Soup was brought out. This soup was smooth and flavorful with a rich stock that you can only get from scratch.
Course three was the meat. I had the Baked Chicken with a Rosemary Broccoli and Cheese and Rice topped with Diced Tomatoes. The chicken was falling off the bone, the broccoli was well seasoned, and I learned that tomatoes taste amazing on rice. Can't go wrong. The fish and grits option is also very good with a large portion of fried fish and smooth grits.
Finally, a large piece of moist cake came out to finish everything off. It was the perfect end to the meal.
Honorable mention here is the peach tea. It comes in a large glass topped with fruit and sings with the flavor of fresh georgia peaches in a way that no other peach tea that I have ever tasted has. Just delicious.
With all of that said, the food isn't even the best part of it all. The best part is the wonderful and kind ladies that cook this amazing food that warms your entire soul. They tend to the patrons, cook all the food, and make conversation all without any degradation to the quality of service you'd expect in other restaurants.
The atmosphere of this place is a bit of a move back in time, maybe to a grandparents house when family, kindness, and home cooked food meant something. It does mean something here.
On your way out they tell you to leave $10 per person in a jar. Be sure to bring cash or run to the ATM across the street.
Worth a long drive and the experience!
Salad to dessert for $10 tossed in the coffee cup on the way out. A delicious home-cooked meal and delightful conversation and banter with the owner and server of brief escape loved it! Great job ladies!

While camping at Roy’s Hideaway Campground, everyone recommended Brief Escapes restaurant. Every room of this house has treasures that the owners found at yard sales and auctions. It had the feeling of Sunday dinner at grandma’s house. We were served peach tea that changed my idea of flavored teas. We had three different meals to chose from, substitutions were gladly accepted for the side dishes. A very fresh dinner salad was followed by a delicious soup. My pork chop and mac & cheese did not disappoint. Everyone else in our party raved about the fried fish, salmon patty and shrimp. The side “grits” was happily substituted with mac & cheese. A tray of deserts appeared that were homemade. We had a wonderful conversation with our dining neighbors. Brief Escapes is truly southern food and hospitality at its finest.
