Upon arriving to the restaurant, I was greeted as soon as I stepped into the door. We were able to sit at any open table. Now, con was they were out of the first two items that I wanted to try the Cod and crab cake. However, the bar.b.quban was my third runner up, and it was very satisfying. I am not typically a pork fan, but it is a Cuban restaurant, so I tried it. It was delicious, juicy, and flavorful. I also had the empadilla's not disappointed. This was a nice little spot that made my day. If in Richmond I would return. I enjoyed it maybe you will too.
This place is spectacular! Incredible food, friendly service, and the portions are MASSIVE. The food is way fancier (ie seasoned, complex, etc) than in the parts of Cuba I’ve been to, so I’d rather eat here than on the island itself. Definitely one of the most unique and worthwhile places to visit in Richmond. The ambiance is also excellent - a former diner turned into a unique and eclectic place. In that regard, Kuba Kuba definitely carries the spirit of contemporary Havana.
Great Cuban food, large portions, fun atmosphere. Understaffed, so service is slow, but pleasant. Be patient, the food is worth the wait. Ate there for dinner and for breakfast. Generous portions, so be prepared to take food home!
Laid back neighborhood atmosphere with seriously delicious and filling Cuban food (with vegetarian options!). I got the paella for dinner and leftovers lasted for two extra meals. The breakfast and lunch/sandwich options also looked delicious - will definitely be back!
Kuba Kuba gave a vibe of neighborhood favorites with lots of history plastered all over the restaurant. Went there with high expectation since I was recommended by someone who lived around. Lunch hour on weekday wasn’t too busy but everyone seemed pretty occupied so had to wait couple of minutes just to be greeted. Paella Valeciana is definitely not the dish I would order again. Seafood in there was not fresh at all. Had an upset stomach throughout my entire trip home.
Would visit again just for the vibe and maybe try other items apart from seafood.
Fantastic restaurant! I came here on a Saturday night, and there was no wait. They don't take reservations, so it's first come, first served.
I ordered a Sloppy José, which is a hot sandwich with ropa vieja and swiss cheese inside. It is also served with fried plantains, which were delicious! The key lime pie I ordered was also very good! The portions are huge, so be prepared to take a box back or split the dish with someone.
A unique, small place with tons of character and AMAZING food. Huge menu with something for everyone. Got the main pork dish and one of the best meals I’ve had.
Amazing authentic Cuban food in a super cool atmosphere. Cuban coffee was alao excellent.
Delicious Cuban spot right in Richmond downtown.
Their fried plantains are amazing! Cuban sandwich is delicious. Huge and super tasty plates. Friendly and helpful servers.
They are pretty busy at lunch, so sometimes might be hard to get a table. We arrived right before the rush lunch time.
The only thing I didn't like is that after we got our food, the servers didn't pay any more attention to us.. they were busy with other tables. It took us a while to get our check. But I get it, not enough employees.
Apart from that, overall good food and good place. Would definitely come back
This place was very busy but they got us in quickly. The food portions were generous and the flavors were unlike anything I've had before. The one bathroom was always busy and the booth I sat in appeared loose as the people behind me seemed to shake and bump me the entire time we were there.
Great neighborhood restaurant. Authentic Cuban cuisine. We had the Roast Pork shank with mashed potatoes and green beans. The mashed potatoes are real and taste like home cooked potatoes with butter and cream. The pork was tender and flavorful. We also ordered the Roasted Pork with black beans and yellow rice. Hands down the best dish at the restaurant. Didn’t take pictures because we were too excited when the food came to the table. Salute to the owner and to the chef.
Reminds me of Home (key west). This is the closest I have been to good cuban food without being at home. Made me miss it more. Will be back.
As you can see from the pictures (3 separate occasions pictured) I really like the Pesto Tomato jack melt and would highly recommend it. But this place is a go to for no matter what if you haven't been. If you miss this place on your visit to Richmond then you missed a little jewel of Richmond indeed. So come here and eat your heart or seafood paella out. And get some cornbread and fresh squeezed lemon or limeade! Can't go wrong here, plus the layout and decor is great!
This place is an amazing neighborhood restaurant. I've lived in Richmond for about 4 years and am now getting around to trying this place out. And when I did, I came back 2 days in a row! Its amazing for breakfast and for dinner with drinks. Generally, I come to places like this skeptical about he flavors since I'm latino and have had latin food all of my life. But this place blew me away! The seafood to the steak, it was all incredible.
We brought family here and they all loved it as well. This places is definition of hole in the wall that you'd just drive by but when you go in, it's a blast of flavor! I definitely recommend!
Cool place. Very hip and cozy atmosphere. The service was stellar. The food, eh, not what I'd call Cuban but decent. I honestly expected more with all the accolades posted on the wall when you walk in. The food looks vibrant but the flavors are not there. Let me be clear, soy Cubano (born in Havana) criado (raised) en Miami, FL. I've been eating Cuban food my whole life.
A couple things to say.
1. I'm not a fan of the service. But if you want left alone & not hounded, a solid choice. They weren't unfriendly.
2. Breakfast food was solid. Better than the Cuban food I has in Florida. A bit too much spinach, was delicious. Rest of the family was very happy.
3. Cornbread was very dry.
4. Cuban coffee was beyond good. Highly recommend
Love the vibe. We had a party of 9 for a Saturday afternoon Bachelorette party and were graciously accommodated. Spectacular food and attentive service
Really great Cuban food with humongous portions and very reasonable prices. They have something for everyone. Just go and you will be happy! My favorite is the Veggie-Q sandwich (with avocado), but everything on the menu is delicious.
