Fun place for brunch in the west end. While I didn't partake in the mimosas, I did dine on some delicious grub. I got the Thai Wrap (super flavorful even with just the veggies) and a side of truffle fries. Yes, paying the extra $1.50 for truffle fries as a side is worth it. I also got to try my sister's Veggie Bennie. Poached eggs are hard to come by and Toast did an awesome job of nailing this dish too. The atmosphere was casual, very RVA.
Will be returning. Thanks, guys!
I have never written a restaurant review, but I have never loved a place more. The food was absolutely amazing, the waitress was extremely knowledgeable about each dish on the menu. Everything about this place was amazing!
I love toast . The food is always delicious, the staff are wonderful people, and the menu is just enough. When I'm in the area, I always recommend eating here to my friends or family. Can't wait to eat their blueberry doughnuts.....again.
This place was amazing for Sunday brunch the food had decent size portions and were full of flavor our server Patrick was awesome as well and kept the Mimosas and bloody Mary's coming! I will definitely be visiting this place again very soon!
I went to Toast because I have celiac disease and have to eat gluten free. The food was delicious and the waiter knew exactly what precautions to take for my order. My husband and son ate normally, loved their food and trying all the different craft beers. The restaurant was clean but not much seating as it's in a small building in a shopping center but the atmosphere was hip and enjoyable. Definitely and happy hour place with great food.
Awesome place. Great food and spirits. Staff attentive and nice for the manager/owner to come around and check on us himself. Definitely go try it!
Inna was the best server...hands down!!!! food was phenomenal...
Went with some friends, great place, the food was gonna take longer than normal but Patrick gave us a discount without us evening asking! Great guy and the money saved from the discount (and then some) went straight to Patrick, Great Waitor and Great restaurant
Amazing menu, great bar, rustic chic, pretty much everything can be made gf, charity nights. Very attentive waitstaff and managers complete the experience. Found our new favorite place! The Rockfish BLT and the Meatloaf Sandwich are must-tries.
Toast RVA has such an awesome breakfast menu! Not only that, they are spot on with their Bloody Marys! Absolutely recommend if you haven't tried it already!
Visiting from NoVA. Would definitely welcome Toast to Fairfax County!! Too many luscious items to pick from. Everyone was outstanding. Nashville chicken sandwich. Brussels sprouts. Turkey Rachel. Grilled Caesar salad. Truffle fries. šš please come North!!
The shrimp primavera was to die for! Best meal I have had in a very long time! Service was excellent!

We came for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society fundraiser and were so happy we did. The crab cakes appetizer was an excellent blend of flavors. My husband had the sink or swim special, their version of the surf and turf. It was amazing. I got the Thai wrap and added shrimp to it, with sweet potato tots as my side. My taste buds were singing a happy tune. Blueberry donuts are now on their way for dessert. I have no doubt that they will be yummy. :)
Good food and cozy atmosphere! Had the Rib Gouda Mac and it was interesting - each was good separately but I wasn't really a fan of the combo. It's a very popular restaurant and it's pretty small so prepare for a wait!
I could eat the Juevos Rancheros every single time. Amazing. Plus rated Bloody Mary's as well. Wife loved the homemade hash but thought the enchiladas were bland last time out.
One of my favorites. Isn't it interesting when the reviews are so all over the place? One wonders what the heck is going on with that. But I can't really help out with that. I've visited Toast probably 15 or more times. I've been for brunch, lunch and dinner, and I've never had a bad experience. Really good burgers and meatloaf, LOVE the Fish of the Day Reuben, decent wines on their happy hour specials, and the sweet potato tots are fabulous! My niece prefers the parmesan truffle fries over the tots, but she's just wrong. It does get crowded (and LOUD) later in the dinner hour, but luckily i'm usually there at more like a 6 or 630. I'm just not cool enough to eat at 8! The service is usually great too. I've probably had one experience where i had to ask another waitress if she could find our waitress, but that's a pretty low error rate. I will continue to visit Toast!
Love it. My bf and I have been here twice, and i've been one with another friend. Love their happy hour and we have really enjoyed everything we have gotten so far! Especially love the fish tacos, and a special one night -blue cheese stuffed buffalo burger. Their ahi tuna app is really great too! We are both foodies and own restaurants, so we are a little pickier than the average joe!
Great dinner spot!. I'm seeing a lot of bad reviews of their brunch--I can't vouch for Toast's brunch, but I've been there at least a dozen times for dinner and drinks, and love it. The menu is inventive, if a little quirky (especially the specials), but the flavors most always compliment each other well, and the items are well executed. You really can't go wrong with their thai salad (which also comes as a wrap), and the polenta corn dogs are outrageously great. The bar staff is friendly and serves up a great selection of craft beers, unique spirits, and wine on tap.
Really an excellent lunch with a client. Trendy and local with excellent food...Had the Veggie Thai Wrap which was really enjoyable
Brunch...okay food, small portions. I'm not a huge portion person, but when I spend $10-15 for breakfast, I want to feel satiated when I leave. I had the corned beef hash, which was stringy and dry. The eggs were good and potatoes good...just wish the star of the meal was better.
I love the atmosphere and will likely visit again for lunch or maybe dinner. Or maybe this will become the occasional happy hour place. I'll give it another try before I decide.
Enjoyed it!. Went here last week, and really enjoyed it. I had the Cuban Reuben, which had Shredded Pork, Smithfield Ham, Corned Beef (pulled apart, not the lunchmeat kind), Pickles, Grilled Cabbage, Provolone and Swiss all Piled High on Toasted Rye with Smoked Mustard Aioli and 1000 Island. I also had the Parmesan Truffle Oil Fries... didn't really care for these, prefer their regular fries instead. Also had the Fried Pickles and Jalapenos... really good. Others in my party had the Beer Battered Fish and Chips, which they liked, and the Toast Club, which had Southern Fried Lake Trout topped with Crispy Pork Belly and Swiss Cheese served on Fresh Brioche Roll with Mixed Greens, Tomato, Onion, BBQ Aioli and Creole Tartar. They liked the sandwich, but thought it was a little dry... now realize there was an error and the BBQ Aioli and Creole Tartar weren't added or served with it.
Would have liked a little more contact with the waiter. He wasn't ignoring us, he was just busy. Overall an enjoyable experience and I will go back.
Not Quite Worth The Hype. I don't know, I just don't know. You know when a place is so popular that you get the impression that it's like a rolling boulder that could serve cold cereal and people would still come? That's the vibe I got at Toast, a new "gastropub" in the Village Shopping Center, a strip mall still looking for its proper niche, although I've not seen it so crowded in quite a while. This is a fan-type restaurant in the far west end, and the low lights and dark-amber tones give it a boost of trendiness and heighten its already surging popularity.
Yes, Toast is popular, and the clientele is the type that doesn't care that you've been waiting a half hour or more for a table, they're there to hang out and be seen in the most popular restaurant in town, by others eating in the most popular restaurant in town. Oh well, at least the bar list of beers and wines is very impressive, with an emphasis on Virginia microbrews and plenty of red and white wine choices to fit every budget and palate.
To the food, a nice selection of appetizers that were different to say the least. On a tip, we tried their signature polenta corndogs, nicely battered and served with their house homemade ketchup and bbq aioli (more like a mustard). Good, but still a corndog. The entrees we got were better, and on the quality of the beef in the toast burger was clearly high quality and the mexi burger, a mix of beef and chorizo with excellent toppings, was good but the brioche bun couldn't handle the wet ones. The fries were handcut and quite good. I paid extra to have the parmesan and truffle fries, but the regular fries were good enough as I found myself going back to the regular ones. My wife got a scallop special she deemed "adequate" but it did not thrill by any means. Given the portions for the other entrees we saw, it seemed pretty small for the $18 dollars spent.
The dessert we tried were the homemade donuts with mascarpone dipping cream. Probably not something you want after a corndog and burger, but to each his own. I would say that an additional visit would be needed to really grasp what Toast is all about, but overall, we had fun, more with the drinks and desserts than the main courses, but more remains to be seen and eaten. Just remember to pack your patience and your appetite for adventure as you'll probably be eating something you didn't expect. More than likely you'll like it, but so far, I'm not sure it's worth the hype.
What a gem! Great food, service, creative cocktails, sturdy beer choices including gluten free menu options and open past 10pm
For real food. Great experience - I have been recommending to everyone!
First time here for breakfast, Saturday morning, recovering from being over-served the night before. Plenty of tables, very quick and pleasant service, music not too loud. Waitress suggested Chicken and the Egg which was perfect! Nice portion size, reasonably-sized biscuit and not over-gravied. The chicken was lightly-breaded, crisp but tender inside. Triple nom!
Tasty Delight. We went at 3pm on a Saturday and it was busy but not crowded or noisy. Ralph, our server, did an especially good job of describing the various menu items and stayed on top of the meal, never letting a glass get empty.
Our "corn dog" starter was a pleasant treat - the sausage was very tasty and the batter light. The sausage was so good the sauces weren't needed but were both good.
Toast's version of a sloppy joe was served on a nice, light roll and was quite spicy - just to our taste.
The chicken panini was also good but a much more subtle taste yet very appealing. The sweet potato tots made a great side for the panini.
Dessert, often a let down when we visit a new place, were great! The fresh doughnuts were light and sweet while the brown betty with ice cream and fruit was extra good (a little more brown betty would be nice though).
All in all a good meal and we will be back to try dinner. Thanks, Ralph, for making the meal a pleasure.
One of my favorite places to eat. Great food with a very chill atmosphere. Large whiskey menu and great micro beer selection. 9/10
Good place. The server Ariel was great. Decor was kind of urban farmhouse. Limited vegetarian options but they accommodated substitutions. Cali sandwich changed into a wrap and adding the veggie burger was great. The caprese panini was just ok. Tap, can, and bottle beer. Tap wine and regular bottle wine too. Decent happy hour deals. I just wish it offered more stout and porter options. Will return.
Nice atmosphere , great location , tasty food but cold :(
A new favorite!. We ventured over to Toast tonight and were both very glad that we did. It has a very nice atmosphere and the staff was all friendly and efficient. We started with the sausage balls appetizer which I believe were a special. They are delicious and served with a tasty aioli. I followed with the chicken pot pie which was loaded with chicken and plenty of flavor. My husband opted for the toast burger which he said was delicious and cooked perfectly. The happy hour prices are an added bonus to this place. We will most definitely be back.
Unexpectedly fantastic. Yummy food, Well priced, great portion size and fantastic service!!! A++
Decent, but needs to get more creative with menu options if it wants to be spoken of in the same breath as other gastropubs in Richmond.
Great place for lunch! Good choices on the menu, delicious, and lovely presentation!
Toast gets all our thumbs up. It works well as a lunch spot if you have the time or work close by. It is a fantastic dinner/date spot too though. Lots of drinks to drink and great food to be had.
Great food and customer service. Will definitely come back. Old Fashion was tasty. Pork nachos were perfect sharing portions. We also had brussel sprouts and sweet potato tots. We ordered the wings too and ordered half dry rub and half sauced but they came out plain with the dry rub and sauces on the side and I wish it came already as ordered.
First time at Toast in years. I was there for happy hour. I tried the French 75 and of course the sweet potato tots. Both so amazing! I'm still craving the tots.
I ordered takeout through GrubHub. Mediterranean chicken and a cup of she crab soup. Both were excellent. Both dishes are listed as gluten free. To be safe, I made a note in my order that I am allergic to gluten. Both containers came with a gluten free sticker on top which was reassuring. The consistency of the soup was great and it tasted of fresh crab and had lumps of crab throughout. The chicken was moist, tender, and very flavorful. It also looked pretty even after traveling. Mashed potatoes were tasty and fluffy. Everything was seasoned just right. This meal exceeded my expectations. Thank you to the restaurant owner and staff for your great selection of and conscientiousness with GF offerings. It is much appreciated.
Awesome spot, and the food was really good. They've got a bar area if you just want to watch a game and eat but they've also got plenty of booth seating to sit and eat. The southwest steak salad and the meatloaf Sammy were very good!
Went twice this week! The first time we went, I was blown away by the Nashville Chicken Sandwich. So good, spicy and sweet. My husband loved the truffle burger!! Great ambiance, delicious food- definitely coming back to try more on the menu. Great value for amazing food :)
The menu is all about comfort.
When you have a university kid, and you take off -campus for a treat, comfort is the goal.
From there early gooey stretchy mac and cheese, to their cold tuna/crunchy appetizer, they were nailing the nostalgia. And the location had great vibes.
Visiting from New Jersey with my 17yr old daughter for a field hockey tournament. We were looking for good food with gluten-free options in the area of our hotel.
Found Toast on google and checked out the menu to see it had a bunch of GF options.
Upon arrival, the hostess immediately seated us in a nice spacious booth. The waitress quickly came over with water and answered some questions we had about the menu. The atmosphere was relaxed, not too loud yet plenty of people and an all-around cool vibe.
My daughter ordered a burger, which she loved and it came with sweet potato tater tots (whatttttt!!!) which she is still talking about today!
I ordered the dynamite shrimp, which was made gluten-free and was superb quality and very nicely garnished. I also ordered the turkey avocado sandwich on gluten-free bread, which was amazing and it came with sweet potato tots which were (insert mind-blown emoji here) mind-blowing.
Lastly, there is no truer test (in my opinion) of a great bar than how they concoct a simple, but classic bourbon cocktail... the Manhattan. Toast did their job here! The ingredients were spot on, the procedures were in place and the presentation was correct. If I wasn't driving, I would have had a few more!
I am not sure how this place has only a 4.4-star rating, it's 100% at least a 5-star place. I am fortunate to live in an area that has a ton of great food and I can wholeheartedly say that if Toast was located at the Jersey Shore, I would be there at least once per week.
I have Celiac which just means I can't eat gluten. The food choices here fir me are amazing. I've had fried oysters, Nashville hot chicken sandwiches that I keep coming back for, and the taste is excellent. The crunch on the chicken is nice. Definitely recommend
My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Toast over MLK weekend when we were visiting Richmond. It was Sunday of a holiday weekend, so it was fairly jumping. A very friendly hostess showed us to our booth.
Our server came right away. My wife started with a Smoked Manhattan. I had a porter. The cocktails showed a wonderful trend that kept throughout the meal. The menu showed very creative turns on standard menu items.
For starters, we had Bacon Brussel Sprouts and Pimento Cheese Wontons. The wonton were crispy and delicious, and the Sprouts might have been the best Brussel Sprouts I've had.
For dinner, I had a Bahn MI Turkey Burger. It was very flavorful, and came with sweet potato tater tots. My wife had the Cuban Reuben, which added pulled pork, mustard, and pickles to the standard Reuben. She loved it and ate it all, which isn't always the case. The sandwiches and entrees were in the teens to low twenties. Very reasonable for the quality of the food.
Our whole dinner was enjoyable. Our server checked back with us enough, but not too much as to be smothering. We even saw an old friend of ours from Northern Virginia who had emigrated and settled in Richmond. We will definitely be back, and heartily recommend Toast to anyone looking for a good meal.
The food was so yummy and Alease was the BEST server!!! So kind and kept checking on me to make sure I was doing ok and if I needed anything. I will definitely be back again just for her :)
I love this place. Great food (bahn mi turkey burger, delicious. And I donāt eat turkey burgers. Pair it with sweet potato tots). Tasty fancy drinks and good beers on tap. Paulina is the best!
We found Toast in a simple Google search. The prices are reasonable. Both entrees were under $10, also the appetizer. We order the Doughnuts of Day for an appetizer, unfortunately it to took 33 minutes to receive them and they came after our entrees. We also had to advocate to receive them. The waitress did apologize because she āforgot who ordered themā. However, the food was good. True American comfort food. We ordered the Chicken and Egg- a biscuit dish accompanied with a fried chicken breast, an egg (mines was fried hard), sausage gravy, and hash browns( another option was grits). My company ordered the gluten-free waffle and added the chicken breast. He states that he preferred sweeter waffles. Heās not familiar with gluten-free. So thatās his faultš¤£. The interior was well decorated; a modern with rustic tone. We would recommend and we would return.
We enjoyed the food for the most part but nothing was as good as we'd heard. The tuna wonton nachos were pretty good, the tuna had a nice flavor. I did not care for the shrimp taco at all, the mango chunks were giant and the taco was lacking a sauce. The best part of the meal was the pimento cheese wonton.
Great staff. handled my large group really well. I had thought they had a large enough space for us to eat togetger but ended up in a group of booths that worked out fine. The food was good for breakfast but the service was very good
Drinks are fabulous. Food is super good. Love the ambiance. bartenders r super nice. If ur in the area, stop in for a bite. Drinks are half the price of normal places. Go see Paulina and get your drink on. This was from noon to 2pm. Enjoy!
Also I went back at shift change, say 6pm and they were packed, did not stay. But I'll go back in the daytime. Great Bloody Mary's!
The food was good the service was ok and the atmosphere was average
Iāve gotta say that this was an incredible place to come for brunch/lunch. Each of us ordered something different to try it all. I got the fried chicken sandwich and it was made *perfectly*. The outside was crusted well and the inside melted into your mouth. The spicy was incredibly balanced as it was good but not too spicy.
I also tried some tastes of the Parmesan truffle fries (they were top tier) and the chorizo burritos were to die for. I got the Oreo cake and some banana pudding for dessert. I usually donāt eat that much, but given how good all of the food was, I wanted to try a little bit of everything.
The server was also extraordinary. It was cool to watch him match our order to a T without ever writing down a single word (except for one person getting hash browns instead of tots in a 5 group party).
It had an amazing atmosphere. It had TVās (playing surf channel), but it wasnāt in your face. It felt like a more relaxed and chilled out bar atmosphere.
The only real drawback was the price. Of course, thatās expected from an upper scale restaurant, it was decently pricey.
Overall, would highly recommend you try this place if youāre in the area
I just want to say this place has top tier service . My office ordered lunch yesterday and forgot my side of bacon Brussels I called to let them know that I didnāt get it they said I can come in in and pick it up .. I wasnāt able to cut to today (the next day ) I was picking up a prescription at the cvs next store and noticed the restaurant I told the manager ( a good looking long hair gentleman ) what happened he ended up being me a appetizer size bacon Brussels and was so nice . Thank you so much I will be back !!
