The only thing I miss about Richmond! This place is my absolute favorite. Anyone tells me they're headed to Richmond I always recommend this place. The food, cocktails, and service are top notch! I'll be back soon
Excellent food, I ordered pad Thai. Great drinks, highly recommend: Mai Thai and "Painkiller". Quick and attentive service. Courtney was our waitress, she was wonderful. We sat outside, great atmosphere.
In my opinion, best Thai food around. Love eating at the bar. Very comfortable.
Love this place—the speak easy is cool, the food is fantastic and the staff is amazing!!
This was the second time I had gone, and both times the food was amazing! Can’t wait to go back and try something different!
I was there for a post wedding reception, and the drinks were really good. The speakeasy was very cool, and created a nice hang-out space to relax. Next time I will have try the food.
The food was delicious. Place has a funky vibe. Loved the decor. Dim lighting hard to read menu. Has an outside courtyard with bar. I’ll be back in the warm weather to enjoy the outside
My daughter and I were headed south of Richmond to a soccer tournament and stopped here for dinner based on Yelp ratings. It was SO good and SO cute! Amazing ambiance, great service - total find. We will definitely come back when we are in the area.
Excellent food, atmosphere and service. Absolutely recommend!!!
Amazing restaurant! It's a smaller restaurant with lots of character and a great atmosphere. The food is delicious... we had Pad Thai and Moo Ping. These are both great dishes if you're new to Thai food. It's a lively place with lots of drink and food choices.
Sabai opened not long ago to much fanfare and acclaim. It fashions itself a purveyor of "Thai street food", and aspires to a gritty vibe primarily articulated by its lack of air conditioning.
The interior is spare and semi-industrial with lots of metal and exposed pipes. Somewhat dim, the majority of the light is generated by a large central chandelier. I have no knowledge of actual Thai street food (I imagine $14 cocktails play but a token role), but the food here is very very good. The pad Thai is the best I've had...just spicy enough with plump shrimp and tender noodles. The pork belly appetizer is perfectly broiled and in a delicious sauce. The aforementioned cocktails are good , although their flagship drink
features a somewhat toxic looking urinal-cake blue foam and I've not had it. The staff is friendly and a bit quirky.
So... Why a 4 and not a 5? Ok a somewhat petty reason... The first time we tried to go with a couple friends, we walked in at @ 4:50 on a weekend afternoon. The staff was chilling and sitting around chatting; as we walked in, one of them smirkingly told us they didn't open until 5 and that we'd have to leave. Really? 4 middle aged people with lots of $$ to spend , and you can't spot us 10 minutes? There's definitely attitude here and I don't mean that positively. It just left a bad taste in my mouth.
Panang curry was very yummy with the mescal paloma drink. Coconut tom khai soup with tofu was yummy and very nice with rice. The beef pad see ew was ok but a bit too salty, and the thai iced tea was super sweet. Service was friendly. The restaurant was quite dark/ had some very dim lighting which our eyes adjusted to eventually.
Great service and food. Meals are big enough to split, but we ordered two meals so we could share. Highly recommend the cocojito to drink!
Service and atmosphere here was great! We came in a little bit late and there was no rush, either. The decorations and atmosphere was nice although a bit dark! I got Pad see ew but it was not how i was really expecting my pad see ew to be, it was more on the glossier side! I think if I came back I would just order something else though
Me and the lady are a fan of Thai food and decided to try Sabai on a late night Saturday, the ambience and atmosphere is dark and has a hole in the wall vibe to it which I really enjoy. Dim lights and dark wood accents. I ordered a scofflaw cocktail to start off and it was absolutely delicious, so much I had to get another! For an appetizer we had the pork egg rolls and the chili sauce it was served with was so sweet and delicious, one of the best egg rolls i’ve ever had. For my entree I ordered the pad se ew with beef, the noodles were cooked perfectly and the beef was great too. I love the flat rice noodles and they have a great chewy texture. Our waitress Helena was attentive and had a good attitude. I recommend checking Sabai out for sure!
We had to be in Richmond for an appointment so we decided to grab dinner while we were out there. And, if you follow me, you know Thai is my favorite. 😋😋😋
Small menu (for a Thai restaurant), and the staff we encountered were not what I expect of a Thai place (nor was the music for that matter), but the outdoor patio was lovely. So very pretty and authentic feeling.
I forgot to take a picture of the menu and, we ate there two weeks ago so ICR what we ate (🤦♀️), but it was delicious. My boyfriend and I shared a meal as we often do, and there was plenty for us both.
A little too dark for my taste, but man the food! The portion size was insane for what I'm used to getting and I eat at a lot of Thai restaurants in different states depending on my location. The flavors all hit my soul as authentic with what we ordered. Have no complaints from our meal.
Great Thai place. Has vegan and vegetarian options if you ask. Very cute decor and large portions.
Top notch Thai restaurant in Richmond. I went here for my farewell lunch and everything was good in presentation, taste and service . Definitely recommend this place .
Excellent service waiter was very responsive to whatever we needed. Atmosphere is airy and hip lots of cool plants hanging around and they have a swinging table which is unique. Food comes in huge portions two people could probably split one thing unless you’re in collage and broke then you might wanna order two. Bathrooms are really cool and you can just tell in general that they put a lot of effort into the small things in this restaurant. Was very impressed and would absolutely return.
I love the decor and vibe of this Thai restaurant. I loved all the plants! The hanging benches were unique, but a bit precarious. The food was yummy, as well. The portions were HUGE! Each entree were at least enough for two people, if not three. Lots of leftovers, which isn’t a bad thing.
Update: I came back to experience a meal. Long story short. We ordered appetizer s and entrees. Our appetizer came out and then nothing. We waited while other people around us where served. People who came in after us. A manager came by and asked us if we were ok. I said we are waiting for our food. She looked at us and Moved on. It wasnt until I grabbed another waiter who was bringing food for someone who sat maybe 20 minutes after us to say could you get our waiter that we saw our waiter again he said the food was coming but again it took forever. After all of that you would think they would have done something for us because of the wait. Nope. Now the food was Delicious huge portions . I had 3 meals off what they provided. I would definitely go back but they definitely need to work on customer service.
I am looking forward to returning to have a meal. We had calamari and the pork appetizer to coat the stomach before drinking at the Jungle room located outside and behind the restaurant. Our service was eh. The food was good though.
This little spot was packed with atmosphere and flavor. The staff was fun, professional, and knowledgeable. This was my first time eating Thai food and I have to admit it was really good. The menu was really pretty with the descriptions of the dishes under the name.Only thing was that it was not really detailed which is what i would've liked. But that's just me since I don't know what I'm ordering. Definitely recommend if visiting Richmond.
It's a beautiful restaurant with great food. The building exterior is decorated with cool artwork. The interior has a beautiful look and relaxing vibe with a floating garden and chandelier in the center. The food is delicious and they serve huge portions. It'll definitely serve multiple people. If getting the Pad Thai, they don't make it with any heat by default. Be sure to ask if you want them to spice it up. Alcohol selection was mainly beer on the main menu, but it looked like they had a full bar in the back. They probably have a full alcohol menu, but I didn't ask. Serving staff is great as well. Very nice and around when you need them.
This was my second visit. On the first visit, my noodles were divine. This time the noodles were very salty. I suspect that another patron had complained and ruined the perfect noodles for the rest of us. I say that because I was asked if I wanted soy sauce to jazz it up, which is odd because pad see ew needs no extra saltiness. Anyways, on a regular day where customers haven't complained the food is great. The cocktails are some of the best in town. The atmosphere is crazy cool. Show them some love to make up for unfounded complaints.
Delightfully fresh Thai food on Broad Street. The curries were incredible, as was the decor... fresh plants dripping from the industrial ceiling, accented by tons of bright wood tables and seating. Staff was friendly and fast. I can’t recommend this place enough!
