A great history of Richmond that is well hidden from main drag. Absolutely worth the visit. Food is some of the best around, & then the shakes. Yes, the shakes. The only place I can think of that may give The Diary Bar a run for their money is Johnny Rockets. This is a must for anyone, RVA native or someone passing through. Plus the staff is quite welcoming & friendly. Very knowledgeable as well. Go there. You won't be disappointed.

Five of us had breakfast and a meeting at the DB this morning. Lance, our server was on the spot! Coffee arrived immediately. Orders taken promptly. Breakfast arrived like lightening! Frankly, even if the waitstaff had on roller skates, I don't think the service could get any faster. The order was correct the first time and the food was delicious. Breakfast done right. Sometimes you don't want unique or different, especially with breakfast. The Dairy Bar is my "go to place" for breakfast for family, and my Boy Scout Volunteer group!

This is a great diner and certainly not a greasy spoon type of place. It is super clean. The breakfast offerings are excellent. They also feature marvelous ice cream shakes, which you can order with your breakfast! The location can be a bit difficult to find (it's near the ball park) but it's worth the effort. Be aware that the Dairy Bar closes at 2:30 p.m. during weekdays and at 3 on weekends.

Great relatively inexpensive old fashioned feel to a wonderful place to celebrate special occasions or just get a great breakfast or lunch in a cozy environment. It is a must try, and I guarantee you will become a regular.

This is the very best casual dining place to eat in Richmond. Great service, great food, great atmosphere. If you wanna taste "the love" in your food like your mom used to pack in your lunches..you would be best served here!! Love this place, love the food, love these folks!!

I have not been here in awhile. Had the lunch special, 1/2 pound burger. Could only eat part of it. It was wonderful. I was so upset that I did not have room for a milkshake, cause they are the best.

My husband and I eat here often and sometimes bring groups of people. We have always found the staff to be accomodating and happy to serve. The food is always very good and the service is outstanding. We appreciate having a fun place to gather with friends and family that serves good food with a smile. Thanks Dairy Bar!!

Great old staple in Richmond. Love the look of the joint, gives a very 1950ish style vibe in the place. Staff was great and very attentive. We got a BLT with a side of mashed potatoes, a cheeseburger with fries, open faces turkey sandwich with collard greens and a patty melt with onion rings. Almost everything was very good. My daughter got the side of mashed potatoes, as she said they were "whack". Not a fan with skins still on, but they are kind of very lumpy almost scallop potatoes like and mixed with something not quite sure how they were made, but because its a large part of the Open Face sandwich, I didn't eat very much of it. My wife's fries came out stale and a little cool, but when we told the waitress she made her a new batch which were good. My son loved his patty melt and daughter likes the BLT, my wife said the burger was alright. We then got really what they are know for, some ice cream.. got a nice banana split with they substituted chocolate for cake batter. It was very good. I've eaten here before, good old fashion diner. Can get some decent comfort food, but they rock out some milkshakes and ice cream. Well worth your time. They do have only morning and afternoon hours, think 7-3pm on weekdays.

The Dairy Bar is THE BEST. All of their food is amazing, but I am loyal to their pancakes- this picture may explain why. They also do boozy milkshakes and make their own Bloody Mary mix from scratch. The Dairy Bar team makes you feel at home and are so friendly and accommodating.

Just a good atmosphere and good, basic food at decent prices. Great for breakfast especially. Super family friendly with a great kid’s menu. The shakes are made with Blue Bell ice cream. They lost a star because they charge a kid’s shake the same as an adult’s shake - which is insanity. I am posting a photo of my 2 year old’s hand next to the cup for size. They claimed it’s the same size as the adult shake - absolutely not true. A better deal if you get it as part of a lunch kid’s combo ($7).

Cheap price for the service and quality! Very friendly staff. Delicious burger! Complimented wonderfully with the potato salad that came with my meal. Almost as if it were made moments before being put on my plate! Definitely recommend!!!

Michelle was very accomodating to us! We drove from Suffolk and once we got hungry, we found The Dairy Bar. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming, plus the food was great too. They brought my dog, Luna, water, an egg and a treat. When we come back to the area we will definitely stop by again. Thank you all! 💕

Great prices, great food, great service. I ordered the banana split pancakes and immediately went back to bed after eating them. It was amazing and the diabetic coma that ensued was worth it.

My husband used to work right near the Dairy Bar and we would take our young girls there for lunch a couple of times a summer. We moved out of state and while back in Richmond this past weekend, our daughters chose to visit the Dairy Bar for lunch. We were very disappointed to not see the owners as they were always there when we visited before, but then we found out they sold the restaurant about a year ago. They always made our girls feel welcomed and made what seemed like a big deal about our girls visiting. We have fond memories of coloring the picture of the cow and getting to tape it anywhere on the wall. They also loved the scoop of ice cream that came in the silver serving bowl. The inside of the restaurant looks the same and the smell of bacon cooking is still powerful. We saw the cow pictures on the wall but weren't offered crayons or a picture as our girls are older now, eventhough as teens they did enjoy it in the past; not something the new people would know though. We loved visiting our old special place and am glad the new owners haven't done an overhaul as when it's good, it's good. We are thankful for the memories we made there and were glad we got to visit again.

Stopped by Dairy Bar to meet some people for lunch. Good location with street parking. Service was great and food was excellent. Our server was very patient as we waited for the third person to show up. Luckily I enjoyed one of their amazing milk shakes while I waited. I had the turkey, bacon and cheese sandwich and it was excellent. Fries were crispy and plenty. I wish I wouldn't have ordered the shake so I could have eaten all the fries but now I know for next time.

I love this place! I don't live in Richmond, but when I come up, we always seem to end up here for brunch. And that is A OK with me! The service is always fast and the wait staff is very friendly and attentive. I love that the owner always comes by to check on things too! The food is delicious, I don't think I've gotten the same thing twice. I will say they have some of the best tasting onion rings I have ever had. I highly recommend this place!!! 😻
