Great food. Poor service and be prepared to wait all day
The food at Jamaica House is excellent. I drove over 30 miles to get some delicious oxtail with rice and peas. This Resturant has authentic Jamaican food.
The Best!!!. Hands down this is the best Jamaican food in Richmond!!!
I got the coco bread and curry chicken with rice and cabbage in a takeout order for <$15. The coco bread reminded me of a slightly sweet brioche bun. The flavors of the chicken curry were amazing and it lasted me two meals so it’s definitely a great value. The only reason it’s not 5 stars was because I had to pick out many tiny pieces of bone I kept biting on, but overall I would eat here again.
The jerk chicken, rice and peas, and cabbage is amazing. The chicken was juicy and fell off the bone. Delicious. The cabbage is tender and slightly sweet. The chicken is seasoned like “somebody who likes to eat is cooking.” It’s very clean inside. Busy but efficient. The picture is of a “Large” with plantains added.
I've ordered the curry goat, beef patty, and the fruit punch. Fruit punch was super good! Loved it, would probably go again just for that. Beef patty was good, but nothing to write home about. Curry goat was fine too, but it was also the first time that I've had goat meat before, so it was a bit of an odd flavor for me. There was a small hair inside--didn't really bother me, but I docked a star for that since others might not like it.
Solid food! Great drinks.
Finally ! Some good Jamaican food, didn’t know I had to leave the DC area to find it. It was worth it! Came in town for the weekend for a conference this was my first stop because I didn’t have lunch yet. Staff were all very nice. Food is made to order and it took 30min. I got the oxtail with rice and peas and cabbage, jerk wings and a beef patty. I will definitely be back! Great food!
Ordering was quick and easy. The menus were kept at the register where you order. They weren't easy to find. I ended up using their online menu. The food was amazing. I ate inside the restaurant. My only complaint about that is the lack of space. When it gets busy, people line up right by the tables where people are eating. It can be kind of unsanitary. I don't like a lot of people breathing near my food!
The best chicken and curry I've ever had. I would eat there again. They also have vegetarian options and seafood options which is a big deal for me and my family.
Note : Parking near the restaurant can be complicated, so plan to walk a little way to get there.
So I went there and it’s good! The only
Thing is I asked for no beans and they gave it to me when I said no beans so. So that’s why I’m giving it a four. I enjoyed the food. The service was good too! Atmosphere was releasing!
I ordered online & picked up my order during my lunch break. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated upon my arrival. The food was delicious + it was my first time trying this spot. The prices were great and the large portion(s) surprised me! My food was fresh and hot! I ordered the curry shrimp entree with plantain. I will definitely be returning to dine in sometime.
We drove over an hour to try this place out, well worth it, all the food was delicious, beef patty with Cocoa bread was delicious, the bread pudding was delicious, the pepper steak meal was soooo good and the serving was good enough to have lunch tomorrow. We will def recommend this spot for great food. 😁👍🏼👍🏼
Fresh Flaky Beef Patties and Warm Buttery Soft Sweet Cocoa Bread, Tender Curry Goat & Oxtail, Great Customer Service, Immaculate Dining Area, & Prompt Service. Very reasonable and affordable pricing for great quality eats with good portions. I highly recommend and will surely be back for more.

Literally best Jamaican Food in VA. Feels authentic and as if I was home in New York. I always get the Jerk and it's on point!!! The Curry Goat, Salads, and Oxtails are also good, but I just really love the flavor and sauce on the jerk. Good price and business has been very successful for them to even open a new location. Service is good and respectful. I've eaten in and taken out. They moved their location from down broad street a few blocks. Indoor and outdoor seating. Food is prepared quickly. Prices are still reasonable.
I’ve loved this place for a little while now, I’m ready to review :
Consistency is amazing here, just ate another plate of ox tail and it was so on point. Perfect in every way just absolutely amazing.
Service is always super welcoming and easy.
Love the people that make it happen here everyday.
So, I live 50 miles north of Jamaica House Resturant in Richmond. So I drove down on Friday evening to get my Jamacian Food Fix (because Fredericksburg has nothing in terms of good clean Jamacian food). I arrived there at like 6:41 pm and it was packed. I circled 3 times for parking but just made my own space. They were sold out of Oxtails, the Red Pea Soup was down to pot liquor (just broth) and the cashier did tell me but I still got a small soup and jerk chicken, I was so hungry and that small soup tasted so good, every so often I would get a few peas or piece of carrot, potatoe, etc but it was so good even as it was empty. So on Saturday, I took the drive down again...seeking Oxtails and some Red Pea Soup, I got there about 5 pm and I got a Red Pea Soup and Oxtails!!!! The soup was loaded with all the goodies...beef, dumplings, potato, carrots, peas and it was SO good!!!!
First, let me say I absolutely love Caribbean food, but it NEVER ceases to amaze me that the people who own/run these establishments are rude or have bad customer service. They don't speak and have little interaction with you. Like this place, we spoke to 3 staff members, and all of them half spoke.
The food portions were large. The oxtails were tasty, but I've had better. My significant other had the jerk pork well seasoned, but a little spicy. I noticed both dishes had the same gravy/ sauce on them. The cabbage was al dente, actually almost raw. The ambiance was nice and clean. I would definitely come back, but they need to be more pleasant.
I was skeptical coming here as I am accustomed to authentic Jamaican food while visiting Jamaica and from the delicious Jamaican food in New York. I’ve got high expectations and so far no place in Virginia has impressed me until I came here. I ordered oxtail with rice and peas no cabbage and it was ready in minutes. The staff was friendly and they were playing wonderful music. This is my new favorite place in the Richmond area. I highly recommend you try their food if you also enjoy Jamaican cuisine.
My co-workers & I came here for lunch. I chose this place because it's Black Owned & had good reviews. It's not a huge spot, so go a little early. I have no complaints!!!
Probably the BEST Jamaican restaurant I have been to. Clean, fresh, healthy and delicious food. The server is nice and friendly, what more can you ask for?! I’ll come back soon!
I was in Richmond for a conference and this restaurant came up on my search. It was pretty busy when I got there but the turn around time was exceptionally fast! I was actually surprised. As a Jamaican, I highly recommend it!! I got the oxtail, rice and peas with cabbage. Soooooo good!!! Will definitely be back the next time I'm in Richmond.
