Delicious! This was the first stop on our River City Food Tour and it was so yummy. The focaccia bread sandwiches and bruschetta was fantastic. I am so grateful we went there. I would not have known that a little coffee shop had that kind of food!

<3 This is the best place to meet friends for lunch or to go spend some alone time with a great cup of coffee.
Great food and service every time! I️ would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone
Fantastic extra hot coffee ☕️. Larger than expected ultra fresh breakfast. Quaint seating. Very good looking diligent staff.
Exceptional food, great drinks, awesome patio in the heart of Carytown! Love the football (soccer) jerseys on the wall. 10 out of 10
Always enjoy relaxing here! Great food and wonderful service! Thanks, Claudio for another great spot to hang!
Great selection, we opted for Cuban panini & salad w/ tuna.
Perfect, excellent flavor combinations with Italian flare.
Could tell fresh ingredients & caring execution! Definitely will be back! 👍
I had the Crudo which was good, but my friends was excellent! It was the all veg one. Music of Kevin Murray was a delight and the staff were all friendly and accommodating
This is one of Richmonds Hidden Treasures - Amazing Food and Awesome Wine - make it a leisurely visit - if you are daring and want to be delighted, ask the staff what their favorite wine match is with any of the delectable cuisine choices, and if you are a extrovert - engage the wonderfully interesting clientele.
The service here is EXTREMELY friendly and welcoming. A week after moving to Richmond and not knowing anyone yet, I wandered in here for a hot drink after getting caught in the rain because it was the closest coffee shop near me. I had no idea what to order, but the barista was so enthusiastic and happy to make recommendations. I had to come back the very next day because I loved my experience and it was just as great- friendly, bubbly, and excited to create any drink you could come up with. It's been a long time since I've seen a coffee shop serve drinks in real mugs instead of flimsy cardboard/paper cups; even for dine-in, it seems like places have stopped going the mug route, which is really sad. And which is why I was SO pleasantly surprised to receive such a beautifully presented drink! (I'm not sure if it's intentional, but both times I've been, the color of my mugs have matched the aesthetic of my order and I think that's a really fun touch, lol. A purple mug for a purple rain latte, and an orange mug for an apple cider latte!)
One of my favorite things to do now is sit at the bar in front of the window, reading a book and watching people walk by with their dogs. If you're looking for a welcoming environment to relax in with a good drink and a healthy dose of cute animal watching, I totally recommend it!!
Update: Since I cannot give more stars I am going to add more pictures and double down on my first review. A few questions to ask yourself:
- Do you want a place where everyone knows your name and they’re always glad you came?
- Do you want to go where people know troubles are all the same?
- Do you want to go where everyone knows your name?
Look no further. This place is home. A very endearing representation of Richmond and what local community feels like.

This place brings the comfort of home in a cup. The owner Aaron is so personable and warm.
Grateful to have been given the opportunity to try out a new spice syrup in my typical matcha now titled “Ball of Sunshine”.
Great outside seating at a fun corner on Cary. Come here to hang with friends or get work done. Highly highly recommend. ✨
I’m sorry the photo of my drink is half empty but it was so good and I couldn’t wait!! What a great find this place is. The owner, Aaron, clearly cares a lot about this craft and this small business. He is incredibly knowledgeable and very willing to share the knowledge. The shop has a lot to offer, coffee, French pastries and pies, wine, and soon cocktails! This place is a must-visit if you are looking for a meaningful cup of good coffee.
My recent visit to Fuel Pump in Virginia was an absolute delight. The highlight of my experience was definitely the margaritas. They were fresh, natural, and bursting with flavor - a testament to the quality ingredients used.
But what truly set this place apart was the warm hospitality.
Aaron, the owner, was extremely friendly. His passion for his business and dedication to customer satisfaction was palpable.
All in all, Fuel Pump offers more than just great drinks - it provides a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. I highly recommend this place for anyone seeking a refreshing experience.
Come here with an open mind and you’ll be spiritually uplifted. It has the comfort of a full meal made fresh and exceedingly high quality served by someone who loves you in a wonderful place. It felt like we were in a happy bubble sitting outside and dining for two hours. It’s like a fantastical secret spot in a Miyazaki movie or something that just pops up when you need it. Best dining experience I’ve had in years. Not pictured-delicious local pork sliders
Fuel Pump is an amazing locale. If you are looking for good coffee, tea and friendly, caring service, this is the place to go. We do not live in the Richmond area, but every time we drive through, we make it a point to stop at this coffee shop and try something new. Whether it’s a plain latte or seasonal drink with a baked good, we have not been disappointed.
The owners are very knowledgeable and take care in treating their guests with great service. The ambience is nice with their indoor or outdoor seating. It’s a great local coffeehouse and one of the highlights we look forward to whenever we know we are going to get to go to Richmond!
Their chai latte is excellent. They really put a lot of effort into it and it shows. Homemade and delicious.
Most places use a generic concentrate like Rishi and they all taste the same, but Fuel Pump’s taste authentic and fresh.
Their service is wonderful and I can just tell this is going to be a great community gathering place. The energy is really great here.
I highly recommend.
Outdoor/indoor space is perfect for working/hanging out. Drinks are delicious. People are super nice and welcoming. Also, their cinnamon buns are bomb. Not sure how many other spots will whip up something on the spot if you don't know what you want or if you just love surprises. Don't miss out on this local, creative gem!
I am a coffee lover and Fuel Pump has been my go-to café in Richmond. The owner, Aaron, is very passionate about the service and quality he provides to his customers. He really takes the time to get to know the people that visit his shop. You can tell he has a loyal customer base that keep coming back for a reason- it feels like a community.
This is also the first time I have ever experienced a cocktail style coffee shop that creates individualized coffee drinks based on the flavor profiles the person likes. Each creation has been unique and one of a kind! To top it off, Fuel pump is very particular on the quality and type of products they use, which I can appreciate. Definitely check this place out 10/10 recommend.
Super friendly staff and lovely vibe inside and on the outdoor patio. They offer a discount for locals, too. Highly recommend the honey lavender iced latte (they get their syrups from a woman-owned business)!
The owner Aaron is awesome. The place was empty when we came in and he was so helpful in deciding what to get and was so detailed in his descriptions of all the drinks and let us try the spicy honey. The drinks and the food were so good. Best chai latte I’ve ever had. We were just passing through Richmond but if we ever go back we will definitely stop here again
Found a new spot y’all!
So I’m randomly walking down Cary St while texting because that’s safe to do 😂 and I see two dog bowls with water. So I look up to see where I am and it’s a coffee house. So I gotta go in because this place is CUTE AND QUAINT!
I speak with the barista for a while and she asks me what type of flavor profile I like. She suggests the “monet”. I said “let me try it”. Oh this drink is NICE! I have no clue what it is 😂 but it has a hint of sweet, some lavender, and mint - I can taste all of those.
Then this cinnamon roll - oh is AMAZING! It’s soft through and through. The flavors are evenly distributed so you don’t get one overpowered spot and the next is bland.
The patio area is giving me LYFE! It’s super shaded but has spots where the sun peaks through so you can pick your exposure. It’s right on a cute lil corner so even though you are slam in the middle of Carytown you feel like you are tucked away on your back porch.
This is a GREAT FIND and I can’t wait to try more items on the menu. She also advised they have alcohol offerings but they are not for right now (it’s 8am so I will keep that in mind for 8pm 😜)
I say check this place out. You won’t be disappointed!
So I'm in Richmond for a first visit and everyone tells me Carytown is a must see location with restaurants, shopping and other eclectic stops. After walking a while, my wife and I needed a cool drink and wanted a place with covered outdoor seating. My eyes soon spotted the Fuel Pump....it was just what we needed and more. Soon after ordering some drinks, we met the manager Aaron for some of the very interesting backstory on the Fuel Pump. I suggest you stop by and get the story yourself with some refreshing fuel and interesting main street corner vibe.
Good coffee, amazing atmosphere, really peaceful place to study and read. The owner is very enthusiastic but....
they dont have a menu or prices. I got a drip coffee and it was five dollars. I dont mind paying a lot for a cup of coffee, if I know how much it costs. They need to get a menu and prices up. It makes the experience of ordering awkward. Do I ask her how much it costs? Other than that, I would come back.
We ran into this great little coffee place to get out of the rain today. Daughter loved the matcha and we were thrilled they had wine. One of the patrons gave us one of her chairs and before we knew it we were engaged in great conversation. Customer service was outstanding- Aaron came up to us as we were leaving to find out if we enjoyed our visit! Next time we visit Richmond we will be back!
Such a cute little spot to have a coffee or a wonderful lemonade with lavender. Cool vibes, amazing staff and the owner was so welcoming. Make sure to pop in when in Carytown you won’t regret it!!!
This is my favorite coffee shop by far.
I found out about it in July and I've been coming consistently ever since.
Aaron, Gabzy, and Jared Have never let me down. Take a moment and pick Aaron's brain about The sciences of extraction, emulsification, and regional spices as well as coffees, And I promise you that it is impossible to miss the passion and dedication that goes into this little shop.
My personal favorite is the iced vanilla latte, with their aromatic cinnamon emulsified into the whole milk, along with Aaron's combination of syrups to get the taste just right.
10 out of 10 will come again
Have been here a few times and the first few times were satisfactory. However, management changed a few months ago and the last two times there have been a treat. The place has absolutely turned a corner. The man behind the counter has quite the personality and their drinks are unique. This isn't just a coffee shop. They have all sorts of concoctions that include mocktails for non-alcoholic drinkers.
