Truly exceptional. Fabulous food. Extremely professional and capable staff with zero pretension. We will be back. Oh yes, we will.
We had bone marrow and roasted beet as appetizers. Surprising and delightful pairing of greens in both cases. Delicious. Nine Gem Korma and Pastrami Pho entrees were wow worthy and we ate everything. Server Ian was exceptional. Thank you for a memorable night.
I've been on a search for the perfect high end burger and this place is it!! Cooked and seasoned perfectly, the stuffed beet was different and delicious. The food was quality and the execution well done. I would recommend this little place to anyone looking for a great dining experience right here in Rochester.
Charming little place with a small, well-selected menu and a wine list worth exploring. Went mostly because I've known the owner for years as bartender, hostess, and sommelier and know that she is very serious about her field. Not a bit let down!
Even wines ordered by the glass are poured from the bottle at your table. You get warm, almost molten butter for your bread (I hate those hard slabs with which you have to struggle). The antiipasto plate had pate, prosciutto, sopressata, several cheeses (the aged provolone and smoked gouda were my personal favorites) and other accompaniments....if you weren't going there for a full meal it might be worth it just to order THAT at the bar. My steak and Jocelyn's scallops were delicious.
Only suggestion for improvement is that I like a LIGHT dessert (italian ice or chilled fruit) and the available desserts were quite heavy (this seems to be normal in fine restaurants in the USA)....some simple cold raspberries or grapes would have been just the right finish. I ended up having the chocolate mousse -- I can't complain about the quality, but it was quite a production involving pistachio icecream (actually one of my favorites), a generous serving of mousse, and cherries at the bottom -- really worthy of a meal of its own rather than something to cool you off and prepare you for the rest of the evening....
We have enjoyed a few meals and are extremely impressed. Highly recommend for the food, staff and drinks.
The service and food was outstanding. The charred octopus was the best I ever had. Our entrees were spot and and the lemon lavender cake was delicious. We will be back for sure.
Wonderful meal. Excellent presentation. I Highly recommend this great bistro!
What a great experience! Thank you to our knowledgeable server, Ben, and whoever was making magic back in the kitchen! My daughter and I stopped by for a late dinner and had three of the appetizers (the roasted bone marrow, ceviche with pork rinds, and charred octopus with an amazing citrus polenta with artichoke hearts) and shared an entree (pork osso bucco with Korean fried farro, kimchi, pork belly and cucumber salad). It was absolutely delicious, right down to the Allagash White beer recommended by the amazing Ben!
I have dined at Avvino a few times before and I have always been impressed with the food, wine and service. I hired Janine and Tim to cater a private party for my event and WOW. Just WOW. The menu was amazing and talk about service. Tim personally came out to not only make sure everything was up to his standards but also did final prep in the house which was an amazing touch to our event. Thank You, Thank You, Thank you guys. Just the absolute best!!!!
Stopped at Avvino last night with friend on our way to a Jewelry Party, This place is adorable!! We had a great bartender; Mike, had fun chatting with him. Very unique items on the menu, we ordered an appetizer which was delicious and of course some wine, which was so very good, Had a great time and highly recommend you stop in and check them out.
Amazing as always! The octopus is cravable! Service and food are spot on!
absolutely amazing with impeccable service and a creatively spectacular menu,
definitely recommend visiting!
:)
One of the best experiences! From the service, to the wine, to the amazing cuisine Avvino is a destination restaurant. I highly recommend it and know you will not be disappointed!
Had a great meal with family. Our waiter made it an e.notable evening.
I was seriously impressed by the food, atmosphere and service at this restaurant. The salad was simple, but interesting, the main dish (vegetarian) absolutely perfect. The dessert I had was easily the best one I've ever tried. Portions are generous. There is this little something (perhaps fresh, local, organic ingredients and professional, but non-invasive service) that just makes all the difference. More restaurants like this one, please!
You won't find a harder working or more professional catering team in Rochester. The food and service is outstanding. Thank you Janine, Tim and the wonderful Avvino staff for an incredible evening for one of our very own.
The Bella and Co. Team
Easy to find a parking spot. We had a reservation so we were seated right away. The restaurant was very clean and organized. The staff attended to our needs. The food was amazing. We got the charred octopus and duck breast. Duck was very tender and moist. Octopus was a good appetizer, it wasn’t too chewy. It was good quality. If you ever see lamb on the menu, get it and make sure it’s medium rare. You won’t regret it.
Took my boyfriend here for our one year anniversary 2 nights ago. The staff treated us like Gold and the atmosphere was romantic and fancy. The food was out of this world!!! Highly recommend this place and thank you to the wonderful staff!!
The seasonally appropriate cocktails and atmosphere set the mood for the delicious food to come. Highly recommend the dips starter that is on the menu at time of writing. The Nine Gen Korma is one of my favorite restaurant entrees in Rochester and I'm not even vegetarian. Impeccable service. This is THE place for a romantic evening.
First time there. Staff was very nice and welcoming! Our waitress was wonderful. She was very accomodating and kind. Wine is very good there and a lot to choose from! We got the octopus to share. Was delicious! I got the salmon. It was too undercooked for me and the sides were spicy. Still a great dish but just not for me. My friend got the duck and loved it!
A lovely cozy comfortable restaurant. The Berkshire pork my husband had was amazing. I ordered the Scallops special. Absolutely delicious! We will definitely be dining there again!
The atmosphere was very relaxing. The décor was stunning and beautiful, so well thought out. The wait staff was pleasant and helpful, also surprisingly quick for a busy weekend. The food was exquisite. So much flavor in the Charred Hurricane. I would have never thought that beets would compliment snap peas and buttermilk. Faroe Island Salmon was so tender, flaky and bursting with flavor. I can't wait to to visit again to try something else off the menu.
Nice atmosphere, fast and friendly service. Steak was amazing. Asked for rare and got rare! Wasn't crazy about the charred salad but just wasn't my taste. Will definitely be going back
10 months later and I went back! Steak was still AMAZING. (I think officially my favorite steak in Rochester) Salads were good, octopus was good-not amazing. Great service.
Will definitely be going back.
Dinner with friends. Big wine selection. Creative appetizers, salads, and entrees. We also enjoyed a lemon pound cake for dessert. Service was excellent.
What a wonderful experience after yesterday’s debacle! Started off with the Milk & Honey appetizer. Perfect combinations of flavors and presentations was great. My wife ordered the special cocktail, Sevilla Spritz, which was a nice refreshment on a gorgeous day. Then she got the East End cocktail, which was even better! For our entrees we got the Ricotta Gnocchi and the Nine Gem Korma. The ricotta gnocchi was pretty good, fresh flavors, but a bit too heavy on what tasted to me like mint. My pick was the Nine Gem Korma and that did not disappoint. The only thing I would do is make it a bit less spicy, or at least ask the spice level. It was so good, I just couldn’t take the heat! This place definitely need a return trip!
Was impressed with the quality depth of flavors even with simple dishes. Had the dry aged pork chop with an amazing apple sauce The Ceviche for a starter. Both were on another level. Service was great as well.
Great place! Particularly nice charcuterie board, great pappardelle. Nice wine selection.
My husband and I were looking to celebrate a few milestone achievements somewhere nice. We wanted to dress a bit fancier than usual and have some good quality, "fancy", pricier food at a venue with a good atmosphere.
And AVVINO hit this desire straight on the nose!
Service was absolutely exceptional. The cocktails were unique, well-flavored, and strong. We got the ceviche as an appetizer, and it took all my power to not eat the garnish and lick the plate!
I got the duck breast, and my husband got the rabbit. Both of these dishes were fantastic! Duck was a little tough, but it's duck, and was cooked more like a red meat steak than a bird. Flavor and side root vegetables well made up for it. The rabbit was fall-off-the-bone tender, and sweet pea mash was a perfect pairing.
To end the meal, we got a German chocolate cake and a cinnamon bun, and both were equally as good! German chocolate cake had large chunks of meaty coconut, which was exactly what I wanted in a German chocolate, and the walnut caramel topping on the cinnamon bun was delectable.
All that plus two more glasses of wine and a 20% tip was $200. Pricy, but well worth the cost in every regard.
If you're looking to come somewhere with a bit of that "fine dining" atmosphere with good food, drinks, and exceptional service, this is a great place to go!!!
Great restaurant! Revolving menu created by the owners (a super nice married couple). We have dined there as date nights & for my wife's birthday in their private room. (Private room is really nice setup for a group meal, very private...I highly suggest it!)
They also catered our wedding & did a phenomenal job of accommodating religious dietary needs of half our family.
Probably one of the beat restaurants in Rochester.
Food was good, very different flavors, but worked well. The Portions were good and the wait staff was friendly. The German chocolate cake was fantastic!
Great atmosphere, upscale, food was great. Wine was delicious
Best pork chop, butternut squash and bread pudding I've eaten in years. Service was excellent and kind.
I rarely write reviews but this was a pleasure worthy of note.
I am no food expert nor a foodie even, but this place is a local treasure. Been meaning to go for years and so thankful I did. Relaxing yet upscale atmosphere. Attentive, kind, and friendly service, the bygone type where they appear appreciative of your patronage. And just as important, the food: I read New American and that's an appropriate category here. Every dish we chose was well thought out and presented, with balanced flavors that were enjoyable through and through, from ceviche to well seasoned and tender beef filet (my guess had the Arctic char, just as enjoyable). I'll describe it as "cuisine I wish I could duplicate, bottle up, and have again and again." Figuratively, not literally 🙂 Thank you for the experience that made my and my guest's weekend special! (ceviche pictured.. Perfectly prepared)
