Been coming here for a while and I'm never disappointed. I'm originally from NYC, grew up in Chinatown and my Dad was in the restaurant business most of his adult life. The food at Bamboo House is always made well and isn't "tourist" centered. The food is authentic and if you ask, there is a Chinese menu (with English for most of it) that features several dishes a Chinese family will likely be more familiar with. The staff are attentive and the atmosphere is calm and cozy. If you're looking for authentic Chinese cuisine with a nice atmosphere, you won't go wrong at Bamboo House.
We have compared Bamboo House to Chen Garden and Bamboo House beats Chen hands down. The food is much better tasting, the ingredients are fresher and the servers are more personable and attentive at Bamboo.
The Hot-n-sour soup at Bamboo is the best in Rochester in our opinion. They also have fresh shrimp spring rolls for one dollar with your lunch order with includes soup... such an awesome deal!
If you like hot chili oil, Bamboo's homemade chili oil is the best we have experienced... it has a nice nutty/roasted flavor and is very spicy hot! Best to go easy with it at first...!
A must-try appetizer is their hot and spicy chicken wings!! It has a unique honey glazed sauce... and spicy hot!!
We ordered the following dishes today that were cooked expertly:
+ Crispy Chicken Chinese style - was not overdone, moist meat, crispy skin
+ Family style Tofu - just the right spicy hot, vegetables were expertly stir-fried (crispy) and tofu was perfectly deep-fried, not overdone!
+ Pan-fried dumplings - fresh, tasty and homemade, not frozen, the dipping sauce was flavorful and complemented the dumplings perfectly
+ (our second visit): Chow Mein Cantonese Style - subgum, Incredible! See our picture
+ (our third visit): Tofu family style, sesame chicken lunch specials with hot sour and egg drop soups.. tasty!
+ (fourth visit): fantastic food today! Phat Thai lunch special, Watercress w/ Garlic and Preserved Tofu, Shrimp with Cashew lunch special - all expertly done!
+ (fifth visit): Ordered jumbo shrimp with snow pea pods lunch special and this was excellent. Our other lunch special was jumbo shrimp with szechuan sauce was tasteless and sauce was watery again... they need to fix this big inconsistency between their different cooks.
+ (6th visit): FANTASTIC! Ordered Subgum Cantonese Crispy (pan-fried) Noodles - this is definitely one of their signature dishes! Our server Fang was great, such awesome service.
+ Oh my!! We ordered these two dishes: (1) Chen Dao Chicken, (2) Scallops with Hunan Sauce --> both were amazing! lightly battered with tempura-like batter, the sauce on both dishes perfectly complemented the other ingredients (see photos)
+ Beef with broccoli, Shrimp with broccoli, Scallops with Hunan sauce (again) - fantastic!! So was the hot-n-sour soup!
+ The Beef Chow Fun was expertly done - it had the 'wok hei' !! We ask for our Beef with snow peas dish to have Hunan Sauce instead and it was Fantastic!
+ Egg Drop and Hot Sour soups were flavorful!
+ Moo Gai Pan - delicious with tender slices of white meat chicken!
Thank you Bamboo House!
Keep up the great work Bamboo House!
We had lunch for two, about $20.
Entree came with soup. We ordered spicy dishes both were excellent with plenty of fresh vegetables. Hot sour soup was very good too. Pay with cash or a 3.5 % up fee for using credit card
The quality of this place has skyrocketed over the last few years. Got some classic Chinese American dishes and they were all great, the Ma Po Tofu was surprisingly spicy and numbing as it’s supposed to be.
Great tasting food, lots to choose from!! Service was attentive with smiles! Nice atmosphere. Would go back!
Super delicious, fast, and a great price!!
I got the chicken Lomein lunch special and was so good and the perfect amount!
Came for Christmas dinner. It was very busy but food was great. Ordered veggie lo mein, shrimp with snow peas, kung pao chicken and fried tofu stuffed with minced shrimp! Excellent service even though the restaurant was full.
Most of the food was pretty good. Had hot and sour soup...lots of meat, tofu, mushrooms, flavor seemed too beefy. Pork egg roll was old, hard to bite into and little fillings. Kung pao chicken was good, lots of chicken, peanuts, vegetables.
Very nice food, great portion with reasonable price. Will definitely revisit to have a taste of the Peking duck
So delicious! One of the best Chinese restaurants in Rochester! And I love the online ordering option. I always find stressful to Oder over the phone. The sesame chicken was really good! And the family style tofu was *chef’s kiss*! Highly recommend!
