A long time Sacramento favorite, this English style pub is a sure fire way to get you going Sunday morning. This hotspot is famous for its generous portions and friendly staff. Authentic fish and chips are a crowd favorite. So if you find yourself on R street in Midtown Sacramento, make sure you check this place out.
This place is a fantastic breakfast spot! They are styled after a 200year old place in England with same name. They are located in an old stained glass factory and has tons of character. They have a system where you soon yourself into the wait list which was great...more places should do this. You can see where you stand on the list. I ordered one of their specials, the Benedict Arnold. Instead of hollandaise sauce it came with Welsh Rarebit which is an English cheddar cheese and beer sauce. It was most excellent. I chose a side of homemade corned beef hash which can come as a main course and is their number one breakfast item. It was really good as were the potatoes. I also sampled their jellies on the table with a corner of my english muffins. In true English style they were full fruited in flavor. The coffee is good enough to drink black but not phenominal (I am a tough coffee reviewer). The atmosphere is top notch. The food is top notch, and the only thing keeping me from giving them a full 5.0 is the service was slow and I couldn't even get a coffee refill until I finished eating. While they were busy, they appeared to be understaffed.
Nice evening with friends. Appropriately attentive and accommodating service. Food was good, for the most part, some dishes very good. Sitting outside was a plus. Very nice evening.
We go here often on weekends for their wonderful brunch. I enjoyed their custom omblets. You start with the basic 3 eggs then add as many ingredients as you please (with each individual ingredient at price listed). You get the choice of breads ,I always go for the fresh scones with the wonderful Devonshire Cream mmmm so good! !!!!!.
Has withstood the test of time!. My first introduction to this place was in 1989 during a weekly singing night. This doo wop singing group from Davis sang a song with words that have stayed with me over the years. D A V I S spells Davis California. Anyway, the impression was lasting. Over the years during my tenure in the area and when I return to Sac for pleasure and business I make it a point to eat at Fox & Goose. The parking looks the same. It is safe, but has a sketchy look to it. The inside has not changed at all. They have preserved the look and integrity of the foundation even with the years of customer traffic. This is not an easy accomplishment. The food is standard English fare and always delicious, the bartenders and waiters are always friendly and the prices have not increased much over the years. This is a unique place and a must for locals and visitors.
Great restaurant for simple lunches and get togethers.
Love love the olliberry scone with cream. A must have at this restaurant.
Great for breakfast!. I eat here regularly for breakfast. There's a lot to choose from on the menu and I have never been disappointed until I had the bangers and mash. The curry mashed potatoes sounded heavenly but I felt let down when I discovered that they use instant mashed potato.
The service has always been friendly and they have a great selection of beers on draft.
Breakfast only. They have an amazing breakfast selection, its a popular spot so there can be a wait. Omelets are great but the Scones and Devonshire cream are not to be missed! Its a neat atmosphere of English pub and Sacramento politics. There are Assembly and Senate Resolutions all over the wall, old photos of politicians, and you may be there when one comes in. I had breakfast a few feet away from the Governor one day!
This is the best breakfast in town, bar none. Pub fare is fine at other times. Good brew selection. Expect a wait. Expect it to be crowded. The scones with Devoshire cream, the delux potatoes, and the fine coffees and teas add to the breakfast experience.
Had dinner there last night. It was a little packed in the dining room so we ate in the bar side. The grilled chicken with pesto mayo on a wheat bun with crispy chips was fantastic. My girlfriend had the Kings burger with stilton cheese which had awesome flavor although I found the beef lacking in size
Good food slow serviece we has one server for drinks and one for food. Good portions but food was slightly bland but good over all
My favorite Sacramento vegan breakfast is found at the Fox and Goose, a British-style pub that's been on R Street since before R Street became popular. When I think of British food, the first word that comes to mind is definitely NOT "vegan," but they make a great tofu scramble (it's called "Creative Tofu" on their menu). For an extra charge, you can have them add whatever items you'd like to the tofu, such as avocado, broccoli, mushrooms, black olives, spinach, tomatoes, pepperoncini, and other types of vegetables, or even marinated tempeh strips. The Creative Tofu comes with either fresh fruit or English country potatoes (you'd probably better double check to make sure that they don't use butter to fry the potatoes). It also comes with your choice of breads, few of which are vegan. I usually just have them bring me some dry sourdough toast, and then I smear it with their fabulous raspberry jam. I hardly ever eat anything at Fox and Goose except breakfast, but I notice on
Catered my holiday event. Everything was delicious and beautiful! Only downside is they wouldn’t share their chocolate chip cookie recipe, just the ingredients inside. That’s understandable though 🤣
Fox & Goose has the best service and brunch! I’ll be back for their apple cinnamon waffles and espresso martinis. My server anticipated every one of my needs and the manager even stopped by to see how we were doing. I especially loved their Christmas decorations. I’m bringing my family back for an early Christmas brunch. Thank you F&G for the unforgetable experience!
I came here for lunch with some of my staff on a Friday (6/9). I’ve never been here before so it’s a first for me. First impression of the restaurant is a 5/5. Very inviting. It’s got that older historic mill look and feel which is pretty cool. Didn’t have to wait long to be seated. Place wasn’t super crowded. Our server was awesome. She was friendly and welcoming. Came by and took our order within less 10 minutes. Service is definitely a 5/5. Food options are great. Many to choose from. Price range was anywhere between $9-$22 depending on selection. Food was served within less than 15 minutes and hot from the kitchen. Presentation is a solid 5/5. My staff says the taste of their food is a 5/5. I got the grilled chicken sandwich. Although tasty… was a tad dry. So would give it about 4/5. Overall experience is a 4.75/5. Great atmosphere. I would definitely return. Will take the family here and try some of the other choices on the menu. Value/Price ratio is a 5/5.
Traveled all over the world and this British Pub is one of the best and authentic restaurants in California. Been coming here for years and they are consistent with everything they make. Even as a child I’ve always loved corned beef. The first time I’ve tried it here, I was blown away. In fact my mouth is watering as I write this review. The homemade crumpets and scones topped with homemade jams and Devonshire are delicious and also my favorite. Homemade Bloody Mary mix pairs well with anything for breakfast/brunch. There’s always a line/wait, so I also enjoy trying out their bartending skills by getting drinks while I wait. Yes! They are always on point 👍🏽 Authentic, chill vibe that serves consistently tasty dishes and drinks!! Life is good!! 🫶🏼
We had breakfast at 7am in the morning. It was traditional full English breakfast. All I can said is that it was delicious. The beans were meh, and I didn’t like that my eggs were not traditionally poached, but everything else was great.
1st time in Sacramento, I brought my dad over to this place to no disappointment. This place really opened my hobby of journaling through the google platform as a local guide.
I was really going for the eggs 🥚 Benedict, and my dad was really impressed with the service. We sat outside, which was misted and well shaded. I would like to come back here as many times as possible. Thank you, I saw you guys are almost at the 50th year mark, Congratulations!
Fantastic English style pub & restaurant. Love coming here for breakfast. The corned beef hash is excellent. Also, don’t miss the scones w/ clotted cream!
Came by Fox & Goose Friday afternoon for a meal.
For drinks, we got a B-very berry ($9). Not bad.
Food wise:
-1 full monty $16: waffle tasted like an eggo waffle. Definitely could improve. Everything else was good.
-1 benedict arnold smoked salmon avo $21.25: made well, a bit on the pricier end with add ons for salmon and avocado
-scone minis: super yummy! Wish they were hotter
Staff could have been a bit more attentive. People sitting and ordering after us go their food first. Slow on water refills and forgot scones. Maybe it was a difficult day for the staff, so might be a one-off.
Overall, food is on the better side. Will try other items off the menu in the future!
Street parking only.
Just ate breakfast there. It was a very good bacon and cheese omelet. Average price around $16 with the ability to create multiple variations of ingredients for omelets. I really liked the layout, it was the classic wooden pub style. It wasn't busy at 7:00 AM and the service was excellent.
So many options for breakfast 🥞 🍳 🧇 , everything so fresh and delicious! I definitely love places like this, my new favorite place here in Sacramento so far!
