Date Night Must. My husband and I try to eat here every so often, planning to spend two to three hours enjoying the service, feasting off multiple selections from the menu and specials, enjoying the recommended wine pairings and chatting with Franc. It is the perfect place to unwind and reconnect.
Lotta love for this little gem!. I am happily floored by my experience here.
First off, though, a word of caution: though I would have gladly done it again in a heartbeat, dinner for 2 came to a little over $100 after tax + tip. This is a drop in the bucket for a night out for me, but I realize that not everyone feels this way.
The food was amazing! This was one of the top three dining experiences I've had in Sacramento. We started off with the fried calamari which was lightly seasoned & texturally exquisite in its light polenta or cornmeal batter. The sauce that accompanied it was perfectly paired: tangy, but slightly spicy & a little sweet.
My date & I couldn't decide on an entree, so we asked the gentleman who greeted us upon arrival. For me, he picked the rack of lamb with mint oil; for my date, he chose the filet of beef tenderloin with mushroom cream sauce. I'm not sure he could have been more right on either count. We were both amazed by the pitch-perfect execution & flavor. Even my date, who to this day hates cauliflower, says that the cauliflower gratin was the best use of cauliflower he has ever tasted.
He ordered his steak medium rare & we were both pleasantly shocked that the steak arrived just such (as usually, in Sacramento, we have to order a steak "rare" to receive a medium-rare product). My lamb arrived a perfect rare, and if I could have gnawed on the bones without scaring the other patrons, I surely would have.
Both my date & I didn't stay for dessert, but we did listen to the selections, & oh, how I wish I had picked just one! The dessert list was nearly half a dozen selections strong!
I plan on visiting again soon, & this time, I'm saving room for dessert!
We have been looking for a local restaurant with a sophisticated focus on the palate. Planb offers excellent dishes including a perfectly cooked filet that rivals Ruths Chris down the street. Their risotto with prawns was also perfectly prepared. On my second visit, the prawn with pancetta on a skewer was delicious. The ambiance is comfortable and modern with a very knowledgeable staff. Strongly recommend it.
The review in Sac Bee kept me from trying Plan B until now (Feb 2010), that was a big mistake. Maybe they went on a bad night or maybe Plan B has improved since the review, but regardless I was greatly impressed by the food. Specifically the shrimp and rib eye "stix" (satay) were great, the mushroom tart (a special) with creme fraiche and pancetta was very good and the gnocchi in mushroom sauce was without question the most ethereal, tender gnocchi I have ever had. And that mushroom sauce? I ran out of bread from using it to mop up the sauce. The experience was not perfect, the halibut was overcooked and the provencal sauce that came with it wasn't great, but in total this was one the best meals I have had in awhile. Don't believe the negative hype and go try Plan B and decide for yourself.
This is a very cool new place to dine. Food is great and Resturant vibe is refined. The Sacramento Bee reviewer trashed this place that is a shame and should not have been printed.
One of the best things about birthdays is being taken out to dinner. My friends, Rod and Jason, took me out to Plan B, one of their favorite restaurants. It was another case of a place being on my rather long to-do list that I had yet to go to. Here was my chance and for free! (Thank you, guys!) This is actually Plan B - take two. The original restaurant was in the south area and then a couple of years ago they moved to Watt and Fair Oaks. It is tucked in the back of the complex so it took me a while to fi
Plan B is consistently excellent, both in the food they serve and the service they provide. It is the gold standard by which we judge other restaurants. We can always count on receiving a phenomenal meal from a small, competent, and dedicated team of consummate professionals. The rack of lamb is by far the best I have ever had, perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned, every time. The halibut is my wife's favorite dish, and likewise is perfectly cooked and served with an amazing red bell pepper sauce. After a run of trying out several supposedly great local restaurants, we are so grateful for this wonderful establishment.
This restaurant is one of a kind! I've been to many different restaurants and had many different dining experiences, but I've never had an experience quite like this one. The ambiance is warm and welcoming. It's dim lit and sets a perfect tone for a date night. The service was absolutely amazing, and the food was out of this world! Whoever is running this restaurant clearly loves what they do. It is felt all over. I can't wait to go back, and I've been telling everyone to give it a shot. You won't be disappointed!
The food was pretty good! The cheesecake was awesome, the lamb was delicious and tender. The only issue was the onion soup was underwhelming.
Great food went for my wife’s birthday! Escargot wishes were filled and she was happy. Great service sat outside and the weather was excellent. The mussels nantaise were awesome had to get extra bread to soak up the juice.
Stumbled upon this place and wow! Had all the desserts .. delicious! Drinks were delicious. Service was amazing! Little hole in the wall place but it was packed. Make a reservation in advance or you probably won’t get a table. I will definitely be back to try the food, it looked incredible. Heads up, it’s pricey but worth it from the small taste I had.
Currently our go-to french restaurant in Sacramento. The service is constantly good and the food is spot on. Excellent mussels, rack of lamb, rib eye, creme brulee and chocolate fondant. I got the lobster risotto the last time which was ok for me but my wife really liked it. Prices are also reasonable compared to other french restaurants. Definitely recommend and will be back.
I have had the pleasure of dining at Plan B a few times and every experience is fantastic. The servers are very helpful in making suggestions for both food and wine. Atmosphere is perfect for a cozy dinner for two or a night out with friends. I highly suggest the French 75 cocktail and the butter salad to start. The specials are posted over the bar and always the first place I look.
Very nice place to eat. Waiter was very helpful in suggesting entrées. Desserts were as good as the food. Would recommend. Make sure to make a reservation.
Staff is on point, food is so good, upscale, and gets busy and loud in the evenings. But the food makes up for it.
Oh my goodness! This place was is so secluded and upscale. It’s intimate and dim lit, so perfect for a romantic date or even a dining experience for one. Skipping straight to the details, our server was so great that I have never been more happy to spend money at a restaurant. He was so smooth and his recommendations were perfect from the food to the wine paring. He treated us great from beginning to end (I wish I remembered his name). I had a chicken dish with ratatouille and I almost cried like the food critic in the movie ratatouille when he tasted Remy’s food 😂. I love love love love this place and I will be back.
I grew up in Sacramento, but live in the bay area now, and have a plethora of amazing restaurants to enjoy on a daily basis, but I got a Telya Plan B is amazing. I stopped by during a trip to visit my family and was pleasantly amazed at the spectacular meal spectacular service, all I can say is if you’re in Sacramento go and enjoy‼️
The atmosphere and the food here is amazing. I had the quail and it was exquisite. The live piano music on Tuesday nights is is an incredible extra.
Everything was fantastic. Fantastic service, food, and company!
It had been a couple of years since we visited Plan B. The restaurant went through a rough patch when the owner was starting a new restaurant. Happily, we found a new staff that was very attentive and friendly. The menu was essentially the same as before but the specials were very inviting. I had a crab risotto with a lobster tail on top. Hot. Creamy. Rich. Bursting with flavor. My friend had mussels. They were meaty and tender. The broth was fabulous and demanded a loaf of great bread to soak up the very last drops. The best part is that the noise control is very good in this space.
We had made reservations for last Thursday since this was our first time and didn't know how busy it would be.we arrived early and were seated.Mimi was wonderful as she allowed us to take our time during our meal. I had the rack of lamb while my wife had the rib eye. The rib eye wasn't as tender as expected, however the lamb was outstanding and cooked to perfection. The mussels Provencal were awesome with the tomato based sauce. We wanted to pair our meal with French wine. Mimi allowed us to sample a couple of wines before making a decision,so we appreciated that. We thoroughly enjoyed our special meal. Dessert was the usual offering. I would seriously suggest they offer souffle as part of their dessert menu. This would take the entire romantic meal to another level.
