Singapore rice noodle with lots of large shrimp was delicious and bigger than expected. I miss having iced tea with milk from SE Asia and it didn't disappoint. I didn't know what the roll with sauces was so I tried it for only $4. Basically a rice noodle with different sauces and sesame seed. It was interesting and pretty good. Great meal for a very reasonable price.
This hidden gem probably doesn't get enough attention. Situated down a flight of stairs in a cellar, this place sells some amazing Chinese food in a quiet and relaxed atmosphere. Super friendly and attentive staff. The dishes are huge and the prices are quite affordable. No matter how hard I tried (because it was delicious) I was not able to finish my tofu/veggie stir fry, and had to take a to-go box. Will definitely be back.
Positively delicious food for a very reasonable price. Not sure about some of the appetizers being the same price as the big plates of food, but $8-10 isn't so bad at all.
Their Salt and Pepper Pork Spare Ribs are divine. Thought I'd throw that out there. Their Sweet and Sour chicken isn't drowning in sauce like other places, and is quite good as well.
They've got a menu just outside the door, and I found out on Monday(5/28) that they do takeout orders too!
The people in there are exceptionally patient, and the dine-in experience was rather comfortable. If you're in Old Town Sac any time soon, drop by.
And seriously, get those pork spare ribs. So good.
Delicious food (particularly the Singapore rice noodles and BBQ pork chow mein), plus great service. One dish came out a bit late and they didn't charge us for it. It's a hole-in-the-wall, casual spot, and well worth it.
Delicious Hong Kong food. Can definitely see the Western-Asian fusion of that culture. The complimentary British style tea was a nice touch. Our favorite was the appetizer sampler, which included the most delicious fried cod we've ever eaten. Also came with 3 dipping sauces - a very light sweet and sour sauce, a bold Sriracha sauce, and a tartar sauce. Very generous helpings! ^_^
I'm from out of state (NY), and if you know anything about NY is that they have a large population of Asians and many Chinatown's. I had Cantonese and HK style food all my entire life to the point where I was sick of it. If you like Chinese food, you have to give this place a try. The food is amazing and they do not use any MSG. Although at first glance it might not look like it is very spacious, but past the corner of the bar reveals a spacious open area for larger groups. They also have a considerable size menu with many options. I highly recommend getting their ice milk tea because it is the best damn milk tea I had ever! Cellar Bistro's take on traditional southern Chinese cuisine is refreshing and incredibly delicious. 5/5 Would travel to Cali again.
This entire district is really nice. This restaurant is located below ground as the name implies. It has a very wide selection of Hong Kong cafe foods. Some of my favorites are the Smooth Egg Beef over Rice and the Mixed Preserved Meats Rice Clay Pot. They also have the usual Hong Kong Milk Tea, Lemon Tea, Horlicks, and Ovaltine. Price is a bit higher but still very reasonable. Portions are large and can feed more than one person.
Went there for the first time this weekend. Pleasantly surprised. Extensive menu, great Chinese food, and reasonably priced. Will go again. Very authentic menu. 4 stars because the ambiance isn't very inviting. Plus it's in the Cellar so if anyone in your group can't go up and down stairs, this isn't the place for you.
Most authentic food this side of the Pacific.
I have this place bookmarked for quite a while. One day i went to hea tea which just opened in Elk grove, and the owner and i was talking about food. They suggested me to come here and try their tomato pork chop bake rice. After she told me they were the owners of legacy cafe which is like 8 years ago behind Freeport, where T Kee is now. The owners had moved to Richmond and opened their business there. This brings back childhood memories when there was only a few HK style cafes. Now its everywhere.
.
I then had this in my mind, and on Saturday afternoon i finally had the chance to go in and try it. Parking which is kind of a pain because it is old Sac on a weekend too. I parked inside the old sac Garage and it was $1.50 per half hr. A minimum of 1 hr is needed to dine in, so it cost me 3 dollars for parking, just fyi. Another point is that you can't sit too long and chill, because time is ticking and costs, unless you don't care or whatever.
.
The entrance has signs and such to let you know there is an Azn restaurant above. It is a basement kind of restaurant which give its a cool vibe, also down there is cool on a very hot humid day. As you are walking down the stairs, you be like wow not much seating and all you can really see is the bar.
.
Yes they have a bar, and there is much more seating around the corner. Actually there is plenty of seating which i really like and want to throw an UYE or bring my family here to share my childhood memory foods again.
.
The menu is huge with a big selection and variety! Of course i had to order the bbq mix meat plate with black pepper sauce served with steam rice, french fries, and veggies of the day, with garlic bread, and borsch soup, all for only $12! Also this meal deal comes with a $3 worth HK style lemon tea, which is one of the best hk style lemon tea i have had in a long while. The drink is definitely a hands down and it is served in a cold stainless steel cup which will give you a lemon brain freeze!
.
Food - The mixed platter came with a slice of boneless pork chop, boneless chicken, spam, eggs, served on top of grilled onions. The texture of the meat were all good. Even the fries was crispy and crunchy good. The only down side is the black pepper sauce, same recipe as before and needs improvement. The sauce gravy was kind of bland, but Sriracha had saved its life lol. Next time i am sticking to the garlic gravy.
.
Service- they are known to have a sad face or a resting Betch face lol, so its normal. They are nice people, just remember to speak up because they can't read your mind. They are quick on their feet when you request them to bring you something. Service is ok, they come take your order, drop of the food, until you flag them for something or flag them for the tab or simply just get up and walk to the register to pay.

Overall i love the vibe of this place. If i was to pick Chinese food in old sac i would stop here for sure. Would it make me want to go out of my way just to come here, well it depends if i am in downtown or not. Parking is another decision i have to make before coming here. i don't suggest weekends, but weekday i don't think i would mind as much because less busy on the streets. If your in the area come here and give it a try or just order a ice lemon tea for their and experience the coolness of the drink which gives you brain freezes if you sip on it too fast. Also another neat thing is they play old Chinese movies which are comedy or action and this is one thing they brought back to SAC from Richmond just like before. Thanks for reading and keep on sipping yo!
