We visited Uncle Harry's Deli today and we were very pleasantly surprised.
It's sort of tucked in between two businesses, and could be easily
missed. We thought it was cozy, it has a lot of character. The Reuben's were very tasty, and we thought the matzo ball soup was delicious. The potato pancakes were ok. They seemed processed. We were really happy to see pie on the menu. Not many places offer pie, particularly pie that is good! We're happy to have found Uncle Harry's, but it's pricey. In fact, I thought there as an error with the bill.
The higher prices will most likely keep us from being regulars.
My favorite. I have had the pleasure of eating at most of the Jewish delis in the Detroit area and this one is my favorite. From the homemade soups and deserts to the wonderful sandwiches and dinner specials I keep coming back. I can always find something new to try and have never been disappointed. You have to love an establishment that has continued to put out such a quality product for some many years. Kudos to Rick and his team!
Shouldn't they know better?. Shouldn't I?
I stop for lunch at a local Old World deli. Along with the Pastrami on rye, and the Reuben, and the Matzo Ball and Cabbage soups, and the Gefilte Fish, I spy Latkes on the menu. I'm thinking, "too cool, I love potato pancakes."
Epic Fail: I order the latkes thinking I'll be served a pancake generously laden with potato. Wrong-o. What came out of the deep fryer, with an interim stop on the grill, was a fast-food hash brown disc--or rather four of these. My cost $6.
A $6 lesson learned. Next time when I see Latke on a menu, I'll ask, "are these pancakes? Or, frozen hockey pucks?"
It's the only "Jewish- Detroit style" deli on the Eastside I've found. Small and very dated, I feel very cramped here. Booths are reserved for 2 or more and the counter is a tad low. The pictures of the owner and his Brother show the love and respect they have for their Uncle Harry! Now the good part. The food is wonderful! Lean cornbeef that is tasty and plentiful. The Matzo ball, and their cabbage soups are among, the best of their kind in the trade. Egg and onion Matzoh sheets are a pleasant suprise in the bread basket that comes with the soup. Don't expect elegant, just good old fashion deli. Recommend!
Great deli. Excellent matzo ball soup and classic deli sandwiches with first ingredients. If you like deli you will love Uncle Harry's.
This place is a local gem, incredible food at deli prices. Makes me want to say New york deli who? Also parking is in back accessible only from avalon st.
Just had a great ruben sandwich! The boy and multiple soup. Manager to hit the spot. Thanks guys, truly is Saint Clair Shores institution.
A true NY deli atmosphere but more cozy. There's a reason they've been in business as long as they have. They're good.
Wow! Now that is a sandwich!!! Only wish I knew about this place sooner. Generous portions and quality ingredients. Will be back many times.
Great old style neighborhood deli. Generous sandwiches and handcrafted. Huge parking area in the back. Patio seating. From the front it’s not easy to see what’s there. But one visit and I wondered why I drove by so many times.
Great restaurant, Deli in St Clair Shores/ Grosse Pointe Woods area. Huge sandwiches
Growing up in mt. Clemens there used to be a kosher Jewish deli nearby we'd go to. It's long gone, and hygrade down in Detroit proper is too long of a haul for the hours it's open most days. So I'm really glad we found uncleHarry's! Fantastic sandwhiches stacked high, the corn beef and pastrami are perfect, kraut is just right, and the matzo ball soup is amazing. The latkes were a bit of a let down and a little greasy, but they aren't really why I go to a deli in the first place. Best place on the east side of it's kind, maybe the only place of it's kind left.
