I came here last night to pick up my take-out order. I ordered a salmon roll, a spider roll, and then a rainbow roll. I enjoyed all my rolls last night, and they were delicious. It was much needed for my late dinner. The restaurant was spacious inside, and the staff were friendly and inviting. I'll come here again soon for a dine-in experience. :)

The Kampai combo is the way to go. I love the shumai. Update: 9/21/23 - service today was pretty inattentive and food was sloooooowwwww. There aren't that many tables and the server didn't seem to know that I had been waiting for my sushi šŸ£ for like 40 minutes even though she took my order. Not a great experience. Food is still great, though.

One of the most comforting, positive dining experiences Iā€™ve had in STL. I sat by the bar and was served graciously by Benji (I hope thatā€™s how he spells his name). All night we bantered, being the perfect complement with the food. The restaurant isnā€™t overly flashy, it has the right amount of decorations to make it feel comfortable, without seeming like it was trying to be overly ethnic. The service was spectacular, quick, and fresh. The food was as advertised. We started with Miso Soup to warm our tummies in the cold weather, followed by tempura. Crispy and tasty. My favorite part of the meal was the Hamachi Kama, a grilled yellowtail jaw. Finally we had a Chirashi and Kampai Special Roll. If I could give this place more than 5 stars, I would.

Stopped in while staying in the area because of the positive reviews. I'm glad we did. The sushi was fresh. We also ordered the gyoza appetizer, which was very good. We were given complimentary miso soup and ginger salad. Both were delicious. The service was prompt and polite. The atmosphere was cozy. Definitely a good place, albeit slightly pricey. I don't mind paying a little more for quality food, so it was definitely worth the price.

Is it super fancy? No, but it has they cozy little neighborhood vibe that makes you feel like this must be where couples go for a late sushi dinner after making love! And most everyone is local. Their snow roll and Kampai special is drool worthy, and their fried rice is the best Iā€™ve ever hadā€¦.ever.

Service was spectacular and food was just as good. Best potstickers Iā€™ve had in awhile!! So crispy and yummy. The sushi was also amazing! We had the dynamite and spider rolls. Would HIGHLY recommend this place! Left full and happy šŸ˜Š

I've been here several times to celebrate. The service is great and friendly. Occasionally we also get complimentary miso soup, which is awesome. Good sushi!

The sushi was incredibly good. It was fresh and lovely-tasting. Even the uni was not fishy-tasting like the usual, and my newbie dining partner lived it too. We only tried the sushi and one roll, but it exceeded our New York and Los Angeles palates' expectations.

Had a Groupon for two for $30. We still spent $40 out of pocket. Very EXPENSIVE. I have a nice sushi place near me and itā€™s all you can eat for $40 for two people. With that being said, the staff is nice. It comes with complementary miso soup and salad. The sushi was a 7 out of 10 for me. (Iā€™ve really been spoiled by my neighborhood sushi place). Not bad. I wouldnā€™t go back even if I had a Groupon. Too expensive for my tastes and only street parking. They are under an apartment building and in central west end so parking is limited.

Beautifully prepared and extremely flavorful. I had the Kampai combo which was 6 Sashimi and 4 nigiri and a roll, all cuts were chefā€™s choice. The chef chose perfectly for me. Every bite was perfect. I know I had some yellowfin, Salmon, Oturo, and shrimp. Not sure what else was on the plate, but would be happy to try it all again. Staff was friendly and explained every question I had. Highly recommend

Pictured are the Kampai Special Roll and Dynamite Roll. Both so good!! Not picture are the gyzo- also incredible. They were very busy with curbside orders during my visit so be patient. The young lady working host/curbside/waiter was very kind and helpful.

I am by no means a Sushi expert, but I have tried a good amount of places around St. Louis and even spent some time in Japan where I had plenty of great sushi. Kampai does not disappoint. This is probably the best sushi place my wife and I have been to in St. Louis. The staff were great at answering questions, giving suggestions, and very friendly/accommodating. We had the Sunset, Love, and Dragon roll and they were all wonderful. I'd recommend all of them.
