Visited for a cup of coffee and a blondie bar and found the counter staff to be friendly. Not real hungry but wising I had room for one of their famous burgers. Also heard the Ruben was one of the best in town. Will definitely stop in again.
This is one of my favorite places to eat. All starts when Susie greets you and takes your order. And the stellar food. The house made veggie burgers are out of the world. The cream of mushroom soup is so tasty. The burgers are delicious. And the breakfast. Can I talk about breakfast here? The biscuits and gravy. You will want to lick the plate. I have not had a single bad thing here.
I wasn't in the mood for a fancy pork belly burger with sun dried toppings on a french roll....instead I wanted a juicy, dressed burger cooked on a well seasoned grill...that's exactly what I got and it was GOOD! I went through about 6 napkins and didn't care who was looking with old school crinkle fries that did the trick.
Everybody comes for the burger now that it is 'famous' but don't miss out on the best Reuben sandwich in town. I have recently been on a quest for best Reuben in Louisville, and this one is hands down the best. Lots of sauerkraut and good corned beef. Not quite up to New York (or the sixth borough, South Florida) standards, but the best I have found in Louisville.
By far the best burger in Louisville. Skip the big famous burger joints and step into this quaint abode. These folks believe in their own product and they've made a believer out of me too!
Wow - Shady Lane Cafe brought it today! I have been wanting to try this place for years, and finally had an opportunity to do so. Friendly owners, great service, and a bustling atmosphere. The white bean and sausage soup was top-notch, and simply put, it was one of the best soups I have had in quite some time; each spoonful was flavorful and hearty.
I also ordered the Brownsboro Burger, with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, red onion, mayo and American cheese, all on a buttered and toasted bun - cooked to perfection and truly one of the best burgers in town, served with a side of crispy crinkle cut fries, and a dill pickle spear.
Stop by as soon as possible - you will not be disappointed!
Looks can be deceiving!. The place doesn't look like much but the food and the people running the place are amazing!
Best Burger confirmed. Went after the Best of the Best article in Louisville magazine for #1 hamburger. Best I've had in the last 25 years! Next I'm going back for the Rueben. Had a pleasant lunch with my wife and read the paper too.
Best burger in town, and all the other food looks incredible as well. The owners are very passionate when describing their food -- always a good sign. I can't wait to go back and try more.

The Shady Lane Veggie
Growing up, I didn't have the opportunity to eat out often (unless grandma(s) was paying or a weekend club soccer tournament). Because of that, I was stuck at home consuming inedible Boca and Morning Star soy proteins - wondering if being plant based would ever become easier - little did I know!?!? All those soy proteins later then left me with a 27 year struggle of gut/organ health and autoimmune discomfort. Now that... is another story .
I gladly took the opportunity to visit new ownership at SLC. The veg is still chock full of veggies. Brava - same Shady! Shout-out to Rach and her family who owned and ran SLC for all those years!
Shady always believed in making their menu accessible for all dietary needs... not just when it became trendy. There really is something to say about the Louisville restaurants that began offering veg options - some 30 to 40 + years ago. Don't get me wrong, bring on a funky new restaurant (as long as it has soul). But the classic Lou staples offering veg options will always have my heart
Excellent burger & fries, perfectly cooked! Fish & onion rings are wonderful also. This place is great & staff are lovely too.
Good sandwiches, great local spot for breakfast and lunch! Dessert choices are worth the trip! Veggie burger was very good.

Delicious, locally owned cafe that’s been in business since 2005. It’s a local institution and a neighborhood favorite. The kind of place where the regulars are greeted by name.
We were here from out of town and happened across this place when we were looking for something besides fast food for lunch. Service was friendly and efficient and food was great! Would highly recommend a visit.
Delicious and great pricing. Their Cubano sandwich was on point, and their house chips made me wish they sold by the bag. Their chicken salad and potato salad were also very tasty. I washed it down with their fresh, thirst-quenching lemonade. The service is quick and courteous. It gets busy around lunch but the wait is well worth it.
