The best go to place - from Id is always great and not too expensive. It is tucked away and sometimes people don't know or remember it's here. Chef Dean is a Louisville gem, he never disappoints. I highly recommend the brussel sprouts or the greens... they almost make the entree seem as an accompaniment to the meal.
Just finished the best brunch ever!
A revival of the Science Hill restaurant. Cooked by the original chef. It’s a must do if it happens again!
Best place in Louisville to relax and enjoy great food. It is my favorite place to go in Louisville. The staff is great! Ryan , the manager, is a person of strength and character. He is one of the most gracious people I know. The new chef and new pastry chef are very talented people. Keep it up Jacks.
Recently was there for a rehearsal dinner. We had the back private room which was nice. The service and and drinks were great. The food was fabulous from the appetizers to dessert! Highly recommend.
The food was excellent and the service was very good. Had the tomato soup and pot roast with blueberry cheesecake
The food was fantastic ! Really nice atmosphere with a great staff. We’ll be back ...
Great service and great food! The chef is awesome!
Over the top. We have been in Louisville for 29 years, and have known of Equus/Jack's Lounge for many of those years. When it came time for our grown daughter's birthday party, we offered to host a group of 10-15. We looked around town at a variety of establishements, including the New/Nu places, and after finding quite a lofty premium on party planning, and being essentially told by one establishment that our price range was 'too low' (it wasn't), we decided to contact our friend Dean Corbett. Ryan Arnett, the General Manager, worked with us most graciously and creatively. They offered their menu, custom-printed with no pricing for our guests, and put a happy birthday message at the top. Now, these are not difficult things to do, but they reflect the main point: excellence is about caring--about customers and details.
From the moment we were in the restaurant, every single employee, from the front door person to the bus person, greeted us and acted as if they cared. That's training, and hiring good people. It is a humble, classic approach to service which is never out of date. They were real, and the chef, the bartender, and Dean checked on us a few times.
All of this was topped off by what else? The food itself. If you don't know Dean Corbett's artistry in town, either at Equus/Jack's or the wonderful Corbetts-An American Place in the Northeast part of town, you really don't know what you're missing. He takes familiar names of dishes and consistently surprises you with what's really going on. Example: Tater Tots. These are so familiar in name, but when you see them, you realize they are something much more (like croquettes, says the Chef and General Manager). Yes, like that. Oh and they came with Truffle Aioli. Really?
I imagine that it's incredibly difficult to compete in this wonderful Louisville foodie market, and that makes our praise of the Dean Corbett team even higher. To keep going for over 30 years, you of course have to have something solid. But to continue creating newness and delightful experiences in a "New/Nu" market, you must have something extra: a real understanding of people, presentation, and care.
Dean Corbett and this team gets it. Thanks for caring for us. Our highest recommendation and congratulations to you all.
A trip to Louisville without stopping at Jack's and Equus is it worthless trip to Louisville! Best damn restaurant in town!
Great food, great service, I'd recommend this place to anyone.
I’ve only had drinks there in the past. I had dinner for the first time, last night. It was fabulous! Incredibly friendly staff. I love the atmosphere. I plan to go more often.
Amazing service and food, great atmosphere! Definitely will be back!
Wow - great menu and incredible service. Highly reccomend the caprese salad and looking forward to fried green tomatoes and burger next time! Hear tell its one of the best burgers in Louisville!
Excellent food and atmosphere. Can't wait to go back!
Absolutely the BEST food and drink ANYWHERE, much less just in Louisville. If you haven't been to Equus, you are missing out on something special!

Wow! Amazing food and service! Best steak in Louisville.
The food was great and they graciously substituted my dessert because of a chocolate allergy.
The atmosphere is warm and inviting...and the staff makes you feel as if you are in their home...food is phenomenal....a must visit when you come to Louisville
We enjoyed a wonderful evening with the new Mr. and Mrs. Atzinger!
Nice quiet atmosphere. The food was absolutely wonderful.
Great menu, terrific filet cooked to perfection loved the Yukon potatoes. We will be back
Great restaurant fabulous food! The service was impeccable .
The food is excellent & the service is top notch!
Wonderful food and excellent service - always.
The most comforting environment to enjoy amazing comfort foods reinterpreted by Chefs Tavis and Dean.
Wonderful food and service!
The Chef is a Star and a Hoot!
Had my rehearsal dinner here in 2015 and it was great. However have eaten here multiple times since then and it was a negative experience every time. Probably rating higher than I otherwise would because of sentiment. My advice if under 45 stay away.
Little hidden gem in St. Matthews. Menu has a great selection. Very much a lounge for the 50+ crowd but the changing menu would make me a return customer.
Had a fabulous meal last night with the GF. Comfortable and relaxed on overstuffed leather couches, we started with calamari. Tender and perfectly flash fried, with a triple olive caponata and tossed with house made hot sauce, I've never had better. I chose pork osso buco, paired with a marscapone risotto, it was decadently rich and unctuous. The lady had the Rock Shrimp Jenkins. Again, flawless execution. Impeccable service, even though the place was packed. Don't let folks tell you this place is for old folks. Lots of younger couples learning to appreciate great food in laid back comfort. Highly recommended!!
Laid back atmosphere. Good drink selections. Great sea bass. I would be a regular if I lived here.
Great service and good food. We enjoyed our dinner here. We had the steak tacos to start, and split a salad they had on special that night. He had the shrimp Jenkins and I had the fried chicken. We tried the fried apple pie with salted caramel ice cream for dessert. The portions are not huge but good. The only change I'd make is remove some of the televisions in the dining room.
Love this place!!!! Every time I come the food is amazing and the service is top notch. The calamari is my favorite!!!! Awesome burger!!!
Started with wontons and scallops, both very good. Brian ordered the surf and turf (fish was corvina)- beef was tender and delicious. I ordered the corvina- which I've never had before. It was thick, moist and so great. Dessert was fried apple pie- yum...with absolutely incredible salted caramel ice cream. All with a South African Cabernet, friendly waitress and quiet atmosphere. Amazing meal!!
The food was fantastic! We tried the shrimp & spinach wontons, wedge salad, shrimp jenkins, and seared scallops! All were delicious, as well as the pecan pie! Highly recommend it!
The food, the service... Excellent! If this place was in nulu or the highlands it would be the toast of the town. Chef Tavis has created wonderful small plates that compliment his inspired entrees that suit the pallet of of the widest range of avid diners in Louisville. This unassuming establishment in St.Mathews will satisfy a mirriad of cravings and ensure you will have a wonderful night out on the town!
DE-LISH. This was my first time here. I got the mussels, a great Cab, and S'mores for dessert. Generous portion of mussels that were very tasty! Nice, quiet atmosphere, good service, and yummy food. I'll be back!
Where everybody knows your name. Ever been to a place where everyone else seems to know everyone else...except you? Dining at Equus the first time could possibly feel like that. Except by the time you leave, they know YOUR name too. Love the people here, almost as much as the food. The shrimp and grits are the best in the city. My husband loves the fried chicken, and I always end up getting the Texas redfish with sweet potato hash because it truly is one of the best dishes I've ever had anywhere. It's nice, but doesn't feel stuffy. Love a grownup evening at Equus!

Equus A+. Had the Rock Shrimp Jenkins which was crazy-good! (I would try to describe it but I couldn't get close to doing it justice) plus their version of poutine which was delicious but so rich I was almost full before my meal game. Service was top-notch and price reasonable for such quality fare.
Jcour. One of the most relaxing and great food places in St. Matt. Great fish sandwich.
Yum. I really enjoyed my meal here. Delicious bourbon cocktail and excellent shrimp and grits. I had the fried chicken entree and left very satisfied. If I'm back in Louisville I would stop by again.
VERY impressed!. Loved everything about this place! Great service. Liked sitting on the couch w/ a table & eating. It was great & the food superb!! Wonderful sliders!
Comfortable, upscale atmosphere, great service and fabulous food. If you want a dining experience that won't let you down, this is the place.
A conglomeration of entrees from mac n cheese to steaks. I would reccomend the burgers as they are delicious in taste and quality. We also had a delicious desert. Their chef is quite creative in their daily specials and the preparation of their food is suburb.
Friendly staff, our food was very good, wine list could be larger. Chopped wedge salad was just okay. We did not have dessert but did go to the Speakeasy. We thought this was a nice addition since we were there last.
My wife and I ate at Equus Jack's Bourbon Restaurant last night. We had been there once before a couple of years back. It's interesting that the ambiance of the dining room renders a feel of very fine dining with the décor and table settings consistently reinforcing the same. But the menu is somewhat limited and slightly below the very fine dining feel. The dimmed lighting in the dining room really helps set the mood and is a good touch. I had the Shrimp and Grits which were quite delicious and my wife had the 10 oz. Sirloin, one of the nightly specials, which she described as being somewhat bland. The well drink bourbon which I had was actually great. The service was good and overall our experience was very positive. We shall return with my wife choosing a different entrée for the next visit. Put this one on the list.
Great Place for amazing food and cocktails. Awesome place for business or personal events too!!
