This is indeed the sort of place you’ll tell your friends about the next day. Small, unique, contemporary enough to be admired and familiar enough to be comfortable. Hand-stamped logo cups, spices in the air that will make you sneeze and the clean neon atmosphere is aces. The food though, oh the food!! I don’t say this lightly; they might serve the best chicken sandwich I’ve ever had. House made buttered roll, pickles, slaw and your chicken is spiced right in front of you. They’ll tell you the ‘hot’ is not that hot... for me, it barely crossed the line into uncomfortable. Now I can’t wait to go back and try the medium and hopefully be able say with certainty it is indeed the best. Expect a crowd well over the occupancy limit and if you go on a cold night like we did, dress warm, the line is usually out the door.

Just looking for a quick lunch and found this place through Yelp. WOW what a gem. I went with the sandwich at a medium heat and it was everything it could have been. Tiny place with extreme deliciousness inside. When I was finished is when I realized it’s owned by chef Viet Pham. Such a great spot.

Not sure if the staff is being held as hostages or if they are payed well, but they were beyond friendly!!! The MEDIUM spice Fried Chicken Sandwich was DELICIOUS!!! Loved the fries with the seasoning and sauce on the side! Wish I took a picture of the food. Massive size for me(5’10, 150 lb), almost finished it all and was bummed out that I didn’t get to stuff my face more! Maybe I’ll pass by one last time before leaving to drive back home(SF, CA). The place was a little small and crammed, so I am assuming for lunch rush, this place may not be the best sit in location. Order to go, DO NOT MISS ordering the awesome food! Menu is simple so don’t worry about taking to long to pick items. Thank you all at for the awesome service and great food!!! Note(business not customer): Maybe offer locally sourced/produced beverages unique to the area? The concept of Pretty bird seems/looks very chain like and while that is great to keep it simple and easy to manage. Maybe a little something extra to set your company apart from other local “chains”, would be awesome. Visiting from SF CA and I wish you guys were there!

Sometimes you have to try something two (or more) times to make sure it legitimately was the same tasty magic as the first time. It has been 13 days since my first visit to Pretty Bird and I can say that the sandwich was even BETTER the second time. Viet has created this great little space in the middle of downtown Salt Lake and has perfected the food, which makes it even more special. The slaw, the sauce, the locally sourced bread, the pickles, the amazing crisp of the chicken breading, and the amount of heat (yes, I did the Hot behind) was perfection. I am now a dark meat convert thanks to this chicken. The wait is going to be long and they will sell out quickly! Be patient because this chicken is so worth the wait! We are super lucky to have a chef like Viet in our town.

Speaking as a recent Nashville transplant, this place has some of the best hot chicken I've ever tried. Tenderness and juiciness is unmatched. The Hot "Behind" isn't very hot, maybe a Hattie B's / Pepperfire medium, but the flavor is top notch and slightly different than a classic Nashville HC taste..

Best fried chicken sandwich I’ve ever had in my mouth. The line was long, but after eating it, it’s well worth any wait. The menu is super simple, which makes it easy to make a decision. These folks know what they are doing with chicken.

No words... I never eat fried chicken, but this is absolutely amazing. Worth the stand in line! When I’m back again from Southern California, I will be standing in line!

Had the sandwich, mild style. The 15-minute wait and close-quarters was worth the wait. Can't wait to go again. I don't ever post food reviews ... it was that good.

Delicious. One of, if not the best, chicken sandwiches I've had in my life. Not unreasonably priced, either. I can't remember the server's name, but he even hooked me up with some sample sauces for the fries that were to die for. Chicken was crispy, juicy, fantastic flavor. Fries had a wonderful crunch and seasoning, and were soft and fluffy on this inside. Would recommend to anyone spending their lunch or dinner hour in downtown SLC

Amazing chicken place with a cool business model. You order at an iPad and they bring the order to you. There is no inside seating, kind of like some sonic locations. While the price is a little high compared to other places, the food is worth it. The crinkle cut fries are delicious. We ordered the chicken sandwich and the 3 tenders, both in meals. Absolutely loved the food. The employees were very helpful and friendly. They checked on us multiple times and we're always available if we needed them. Huge portions. Additional notes: there is no parking but there are parking garages around for $2. Refills can be asked for on soda. Free water available. Did not notice any bathrooms. No inside seating.

The mild was not mild. It was flaming hot at best! 5 levels of spicy and I’m certain they went right past the first 4 levels. 🥵 Did I mention the honey was too hot as well? Aside from that, the chicken was great.

If you want hot, I’d go one step above what you’d normally get at other hot chicken joints. I got Medium expecting more spice, didn’t get any spice at all. The sauces were really interesting, their main sauce was a little more sweet than I expected it to be. Overall incredible chicken and quantity for the price. For me, the fries were the best part. Definitely recommend for either lunch or dinner.

Great fried chicken sandwich. A little pricey compared to something like Popeyes. My real favorite was the fries - perfectly crisp and seasoned. Ordering is either online or on a tablet in person. The place is pretty small and only does outdoor seating.

The best fried chicken I have ever had. This place has always been on my list and we finally got to try this recently. We were mind blown by the quality and freshness of the meat. We, thoroughly enjoyed the burger and we also ordered their meat as an appetizer and it did not disappoint. We ordered extra hot and we were able to handle it (I'd say my spice tolerance isn't super high but was able to enjoy this one). Hands down, must visit for anyone in the neighborhood.

Pretty strange set up. You walk up and order on a tablet, the window to your right is a window/door. After ordering and entering your name, they will bring out the food. I ate outside, as it was a beautiful fall day. The outside seating was pretty full, about 6 or 7 tables, pretty clean. I ordered 3 piece chicken tenders and nuggets. On the Tenders I went with Hot Behind and on the nuggets, I went with Medium. The Hot Behind is not that spicy, but I have a high heat tolerance. It was spicy and flavorful, just not extreme heat. The sauces were Ranch and Hot Honey, both were tasty and added to the flavor. If I were to do it again, I would stick to the tenders, they were super juicy and very tasty, cooked perfectly. The nuggets were okay, but a little on the dry side. The menu on the tablet was hard to navigate, I could not figure out how to go back and add a drink and more sauces. FYI - the sauces are in small, VERY SMALL containers. I am a condiment guy, so if this is also your thing, order more! I did ask the staff and they gave me a couple ranch sauces. The staff is excellent, like on top of their game. Each customer was created as they walked up and offered help ordering, A+++++

Decent food. The slaw was great. The chicken sandwich was pretty good but nothing special. Great service, the staff is super friendly.

My cousin recommended this spot to me, and I totally get the hype. Ordering is super easy, you can either use their tablet or you can order online. My wait time was about 15 minutes, but since they're making chicken fresh I didn't mind it. The staff was super friendly and helpful. There was one employee that kept coming out to greet people as they jumped in line to let them know they can order online as well. She also was the food runner and was very quick with everything. I got two combos, 1 mild and 1 hot. The orders came with fries and a drink. At first, the $17 price kind of scared me, but when I opened the box I completely understood. The chicken sandwich is huge and the size of the fries is also huge. I got all the toppings on the sandwich and I would highly recommend doing that. The slaw is a perfect compliment to the chicken. The bun is nicely soft. I thoroughly enjoyed this place and would highly recommend it to anyone that is staying the area.

pretty bird has been consistently good. My favorite is the crispy tender roll. A family favorite is the chicken sandwhich! The quality has been consistent & the workers are very kind. It’s a calm environment where you can enjoy your food while eating outside:)

Take out with small outdoor dining area. Walk up to a kiosk to order. Then they prepare your food and bring it out to the tables. Limited seating. Have water jug self serve on site with cups. Ordered the 10 pc chicken nugget combo mild with pretty bird sauce, crinkle fries. Comes with a couple of small sliced pickles. Fries were extra crispy in a good way! The mild flavor on the chicken was juicy and evenly breaded with mild seasoning. Other people with me tried the hot but seasoning and was blowing his nose and downing water to cool the chicken off. Fun place to visit. Will be hot to sit outside in the summer months. Would recommend to try for a local place!

This is one of the best hot chicken sandwiches I’ve ever had. I come here as often as possible and am never disappointed. The sandos are also bigger than most, so that’s a big plus!

Fried chicken sandwich (hot): • fried chicken, cabbage slaw, pickles, Pretty Bird sauce, brioche (?) bun • slightly spicy but wish it was spicier • tastes like they use fresh ingredients • chicken is very crunchy and not dry but also not gushing juices (Goldilocks moment) • pickles and slaw add a nice acidity • bun is soft and slightly sweet Cider slaw: • my least favorite side but still yummy and good source of veggies • not too runny/creamy/sweet, mostly acidic and crunchy (which I like) • provides a nice break from the richness and creaminess of the corn salad and sauce Mexican street corn salad: • very good, creamy and sweet from the corn • 100% would recommend Crinkle-cut fries (+ Pretty Bird sauce): • fries are thick-cut, crispy, some of the best I’ve had • creamy sauce, the lemony tang elevates it Overall: • pricey but maybe justified (at least once in awhile) by the generous portions and high food quality

Hands down the best fried chicken we’ve had in Utah! The chicken nuggets and tenders were so crispy on the outside but so tender and juicy on the inside. Love the flavorful seasoning, it’s definitely not your typical fried chicken! The fries were very crispy even after our 10min drive back. 100% recommend

Stop what your doing and go get a sandwich . You deserve it, your partner deserves it. Your children deserve savory chicken nuggets and crispy crinkle fries. Go ahead. Treat yourself. DO YOU SEE THE SIZE OF THIS SANDWICH!? Delish. I got the hottest version.

One of the best chicken sandwiches around the state. I’ve been to a few and nothing compares. The prices are steep for a chicken sandwich so plan on spending around 20 dollars per person but it is one of the biggest chicken sandwiches I’ve eaten as well so it’s a lot of food totally worth it. Great flavor on it! The service was great as well! I highly recommend this place for a high quality chicken sandwich!

This was a lovely, albeit semi-hidden quick stop right behind the Eccles Theater and City Creek Mall. The service window person was very friendly and patient with all our questions, even when we ordered from the wrong menu (the paper menu listed in the photos from previous reviews is out of date). We got the Mild spice level of every item we tried so we could get the full flavor, and it's really good. The sauce makes it though, ask for PB Sauce AND Hot Honey Sauce if you want the full service experience. One combo plus an extra side is plenty of food for two people so don't be afraid to share. We'll definitely stop here again when we're on foot in SLC. Kinda hard to get to via car, just a heads up.

Chicken tenders and the Pretty Bird sauce were both Delicious! Conveniently located near the City Creek Center. The Medium was just the right amount of heat, but the more you eat the hotter it gets. I didn't regret my decision. 5-Stars well deserved. I would Definitely eat here again.
