My husband and I got the Raman, and Gyudon and we ordered several appetizers (curry potsticker, Koko potsticker, and a salmon rice ball) The gals behind the register were very welcoming and answered our questions with a smile. We will definitely be back.
A quaint, cozy Japanese restaurant in a more suburban part of town.
Upon entry, I was met with the busy ambiance of people happily conversing and slurping their noodles.
I ordered the special: Kimchi Ramen for a very reasonable $8.50
. Very distinct kimchi flavor: I was afraid it'd be diluted in the soup. Killer pork recommendation from the cashier: slight char for crispness, great flavor. Seaweed is a nice addition.
The selection is incredible here. There's ramen, there're rice meals, there's curry, there's sushi. Goodness, I will have to come back more often to see what else I can try.
All i can say is that this place has the best ramen! There's been a few ramen places popping up in the valley as it is getting more popular now and they have nothing on this place. The noodles are a perfect texture and thickness. The price for what they charge for a bowl of ramen is not too shabby. And they have a huge selection of food and I love the separate sushi bar in the back of this place.
This place oozes comfort. It has a homely atmosphere, and the staff are all very kind. Their ramen is the most delicious I have ever tasted. The meat is tender, the naruto is fishy and yummy, and the actual noodles are chewy and thick. The broth warms you right up. Koko's also has a selection of Japanese drinks, such as Ramúne and Calpico, as well as some yummy green teas. Their sushi is pretty good as well, but it needs some more flavor. The texture is pretty good though. I highly recommend it!
Koko's Kitchen was lovely in every way possible. Amazing food, chef waitresses and owner were very nice and welcoming and has a great seats to eat on a we night. I recommend anyone going on a date to come to this peaceful and yummy place.
Surprisingly Good. We were a little worried about the quality of sushi or maybe the freshness before walking into Koko. The outside is pretty rundown and the kitchen area could be a lot cleaner and have less clutter. But the food smelled good and the sushi station seemed to be quite clean so we went for it (after a short discussion outside the front door). Well I am still alive, the sushi seemed fresh and tasted great, I was very satisfied with my meal. I would definitely return and would encourage others to give it a try (and also for the owners to keep the kitchen and surrounding areas a bit cleaner).
Fantastic Ramen. Our party of 5 included a 5 and 7 year old with great palates. We were excited to finally try Koko's and we were not disappointed. It was delicious. We ordered the pork ramen, beef ramen and gyoza. Broth was perfectly seasoned-ramen generous and chock full of meat. We got there at 11.30am and place was full by 12:15;I would recommend arriving right at 11.30am. Next time and there will be many times-I am looking forward to the sushi and trying other items on the menu. The aroma of the other dishes was very tempting of the numerous other diners. Best ramen we've had in Utah so far!
I quickly learned that my eyes are much bigger than my stomach. Ordered the Jumbo Pork Ramen along with a Spam Musubi and a Ume Rice Ball. When I was younger I could eat all that. Definately not now. The ramen was excellent. I've been to a group of ramen shops and I rate this place pretty high. Quality and taste are worth while.
Great food. Their udon is great and the prices are hard to beat. BUT the guy who takes orders (he's always in a green beenie) is A HUMONGOUS JERK. Youre lucky if he actually looks up at you while taking your order. He just seems to hate his job - I've been there on three different occasions and he's in the same nasty mood every time.
Tasty food for a great price (6-10 per person). Has a nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
My fav little hole in the wall place!. My husband and I are amateur foodies, trying to find little random restaurants with amazing food, and man does this fit the bill! I've been here countless time, and the sheer enormity of their traditional Japanese menu mixed with their awesome food and the restaurant's cozy feel is what keeps me coming back. I've tried the curried soup stuff before, as well as their teriyaki and ramen. The flavors were great, but I wouldn't suggest the teriyaki beef, as it was on the fattier side. The chicken teriyaki is good though. The only problem with both teriyaki's in general I guess is that they kinda skimp on sauce, and if you're a sauce person like me, you might have to buy a little cup more(I wish they offered it free, as some places have it in the bottles sitting out for you). Also though their sushi might not be as cheap as those "half off sushi" places, the size of the rolls makes that alright. Like they say, you get what you pay for, and where the half price sushi is not even big enough to be called bite sized, Koko's sushi is almost is two bite pieces. ;) Love the food, love the menu, atmosphere, and prices. Deff. on my favorite places list for SLC.
Authentic, inexpensive, and so much to choose from!. I could go to Koko Kitchen every day and never tire of it. I used to live in Japan and find myself longing for some authentic sushi or udon. Koko's is definitely the place for that! The interior is comfortable and clean. The food is super fresh (especially for land-locked seafood)! Love love love the unagi rolls! And the udon is perfect for a winter warmup!
My dad and I have been going here for years and years so I disagree with the whole "people like it just because it's a hole in the wall kinda place." it's always been good and authentic. My dad lived in Japan for 4 years and he loves the food at koko. After traveling to Japan and growing up eating traditional japanese fare I would agree that koko has some of the best traditional Japanese food in Utah, other than the expensive Kyoto restaurant. Anyways, the ramen is great and I always love the miso udon, the ebi udon is good too. Good food and decent prices, and between the hot soup and extremely warm back room koko is perfect place for dinner on a cold night.

Funky place, good ramen. The ramen noodles and broth are definitely the highlight and because of the lack of authentic noodle houses around here, it might be your best bet for that kind of a dish but overall I thought they teriyaki, meat quality, etc. could have been better. The hole-in-the-wall-ness of the place is definitely trendy right now, but I still think that in spite of the huge selection, the ramen is the only thing I would order again...
Hard to find any ramen in his town but it is great to get this homey dish here.
Cool neighborhood joint. Can't believe it took me so long to discover this place. Very tasty and inexpensive to boot. Definitely a cool little neighborhood joint. Everything we tried was quite good. My wife really enjoyed her curry and I really enjoyed the yakitori. We sampled several appetizers, including the curry croquette, and although good, I personally wasn't a huge fan. This place has a big menu with many items that I can't wait to try during future visits.
Awesome. Good tasty food and decent price.. lot of vegetarian options!
Good food and also very very good price. Sashimi was good but not great. We got ramen and it was yummy.
Tasty Rice balls, Croquettes and Curry. I've been looking for a decent, affordable and most important delicious, Japanese fast eats restaurant in every city that I've lived in in the last decade. I was surprised to find that place here in Salt Lake.
Koko Kitchen provides many every day homestyle dishes readily available in Japan, from noodle bowls, sukiyaki, rice balls, croquettes, sushi and a dozen other great options. Most other similar restaurants have one or two of these items, but nothing compared to breadth of Koko's menu.
With a wide menu you often expect a few items to stand out while other items are there as filler, but so far of the dozen items I've tried off their menu in the last few weeks I have been continually impressed with the quality and flavors of each item.
Try the curry croquettes or a bowl of ramen and enjoy a hot home cooked meal that fills the belly and pleases the senses.
Okay for the Price. If you are hankerin' for some quick and cheap Japanese Curry or a Rice Bowl then this is the place. And there are actual Japanese people that work there.
Oishikatta!. A girlfriend and I went here for lunch (my first time, she's a regular) and Koko Kitchen is outstanding - the staff was very friendly and you get far more food than you'd expect...
(And, I get a chance to practice the little Japanese I know :)
The restaurant is modest from the outside (in fact, I've lived in the area for over 10-years and never knew they were here)... the prices are fabulous, the food is wonderful, and the atmosphere is friendly with a local flair... I'll be back for sure!
Homestyle Japanese. A nice family run Japanese joint complete with tasty curry and tonkatsu. Large menu with Japanese offerings not seen in sushi places. Love the curry croquettes Japanese potato side salad.
I love Koko Kitchen. The atmosphere is great and the sushi bar is awesome. The owner is very nice and the food is great and fast.
Koko Kitchen is located in exactly the spot you wouldn't expect a restaurant would be located. It's surrounded by houses and some apartment complexes. In fact, the place looks like a slightly oddly shaped house.
Although KoKo Kitchen has been around for at least a decade, it's one of those places that is just enough off the beaten path that it gets forgotten more than it should. (That's not to say that it isn't busy because it always is!) There are so many items
Cozy place, good for dining alone as well as with friends.
If you’re planning to order ramen go with a small portion unless you sharing with 1 or 2 other people.
I had delicious tofu ramen and even though I was starving I left half of noodles in the bowl.
Everything is also quite cheap.
$8.50 for a regular ramen
~$13 for a jumbo ramen (can feed 2-3 people)
It's one of the older and famous Japanese restaurant in the city. Price is very reasonable and the serving size is ample! We had the yakisoba and beef gyudon. I didn't find the food to be wow but it was good! I'll probably try th sushi bar next time.
The place looks nice, the menu lists a lot of items (I liked that!), the food was good, the only thing I didn't like was that the kimchi and the noodles on another dish were really really cold. Dumplings were particularly good.
Best ramen in the city! This place is awesome! Ton of menu items and everything is traditional. I wish I would have found out about this place sooner.
KoKo Kitchen is a very nice restaurant with a large selection, including vegetarian options. The plates are large and filling. While I wasn't fond of their tofu, their vegetable curry was amazing. It is a cozy, little restaurant, especially in the back with the sushi bar.
If you're looking for authentic Japanese cuisine for an affordable price, you have found the right place. This little hole-in-the-wall restaurant may look unassuming, but packs a wallop of a menu filled with flavor and great deals. Order at the counter for pickup or bring your tray to the beautiful, cozy backroom dining area for a friendly and thoroughly enjoyable experience. The amazing food, coupled with imported Japanese beverages and soft drinks, makes this restaurant as close as you can get to dining in Japan itself. To round it all out, the employees are friendly and eager to get their food to you. An absolute pleasure to have dinner here. Be aware that when we dined here, there were no children and quite a few couples. It is a small restaurant, so bringing young, noisy children is probably not the best idea.
Everything was so delicious. They have a lot of sitting areas inside and outside.
I have been eating in this restaurant for 5 years now. And every time the staff has been super nice saying a Hi when you get in and a good bye with a thank you so much when you leave.
They have a lot of options, including marked options in the menu for vegetarians/vegans and gluten-free people.
It looks and tastes like what you can get in Japan.
I highly recommend this restaurant for Japanese food lovers!
Ps. They do have a bathroom you just have to ask. lol
It tastes just right m; not salty nor blend. Enjoyed the meals. Water cup was bit small that i had to went back and force few times. Cheap price with decent amount. Down to go again once a month.
The portions are huge, and the ramen place s delicious. I was pleasantly surprised! There was a neat sushi bar in the back, but the front was diner style. The kimchi was very good and not vinegar.
I love eating at Koko kitchen. Its uniqueness and simple beauty make me love spending time here. The food is always excellent and the service is just so consistently good, whether they're super busy or slow. Plenty of parking in their lot or on the street right near the restaurant. The prices for food are super low, especially considering the great quality. Love this place.

This place has amazing ramen, great sushi and a very expansive menu. I love stopping by here to eat. It is made with authentic and obviously fresh ingredients. Don't let the look of the place frighten you away, it may be a hole in the wall but the food is worth it. My only feedback thus far has been that the seating is poor and run down along with the need to wipe off your own table a lot of the time before eating. Doesn't take away from the great taste though.
Delicious food! The front area doesn't feel very welcoming, and I didn't go to the dining area at all. It could be more comfortable in the back. There's a water cooler right next to a high-traffic garbage can. It may meet sanitary conditions established by the government, but is that really good enough?
I've been eating here for about 20 years and have always been wildly pleased. The cultural vibe and the fend for yourself service makes for an alternative to traditional experience. The owner and staff are friendly, consistent and will ALWAYS say goodbye and thank you when you walk out the door.
The food never disappoints, however if going for sushi this restaurant would not be my choice. Udon, noodle salad, potato salad and other appetizers are my go to.
If you're open minded and appreciate good food without the prude then you'll love Koko kitchen!
