Had a taste for Greek and I was recommended JTG by a coworker and vendor and boy were they not joking! It was gooder than good. I was surprised at the amount of flavor, as I had expectations that were exceeded exponentially! I ordered the dinner special, #12A, which is Traditional Gyro, Fries, salad, and drink. It was well worth the price, and I'll definitely be back to try other items on their menu.
I was very impressed! Our first visit and it won't be our last. The atmosphere was relaxed, the service was friendly and fast, and the food was delicious. The grape leaves were yummy, but the traditional gyro....IT WAS SO GOOD! The meat was so tender. It all just melts in your mouth, just savor the flavors.
Last night, hubby and Dad were heading to the gym after dinner, so we picked @johnthegreeksa for dinner. Gloria recognized Dad from my food posts and was so helpful serving us and telling us the Greek name of each item.
Dad had Lemonade, and hubby and I tried Mythos, a light Greek beer. The restaurant also had a lager and Greek wines. We started with the Sampler plate, which had Hummus, Tirkokafteri (spicy feta cheese spread), Skordalia (creamy potato and garlic spread), and Tsatziki (sour cream with grated cucumbers). Dad and I shared the Arni Kotsi (lamb shank) with their most popular soup, Greek salad, spinach and rice. Hubby had the Rack of Lamb. I had a couple of bites and it’s one of the best in town! Great price too! We ordered a lot of their desserts to try and take home: Grape Pie, Baklava, Pasta Flora, Kadaifi, and Kourambiedes. All so good! Stop by and check them out!
I've dined at John the greek three times now and each time has been excellent.
It's a family owned restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. If you want a relaxing dining experience, this place will never pressure you to leave or hurry up with an order. Each time the restaurant has been clean and service has been professional. The menu is extensive and there is something for everyone.
Dishes are 11-16 dollars each.
We ordered hummus and pita as an appetizer. The hummus was excellent. Definitely made in the kitchen and fresh. I ordered the octopus and my wife ordered a gyros plate. Everything came out to our liking.
My first time here and the food was great. My lamb chops were so good and the rice was fluffy. I didn't think to get a picture before I even started eating.
This is a nice local joint to visit when you’d like a nice, decent meal. Cute outdoor patio, with excellent service. The food was good if you want something solid, but I found it to be a bit excessive on the salt. I was also looking for more Greek flavors if that makes sense. The pork chop was seasoned and grilled but didn’t have Mediterranean flavors. The rice pilaf seemed a bit more “American cafeteria”, but again edible. Based off of other reviews I was hoping for more. Maybe I just didn’t order the right dish???
Either way, it does seem like a very solid place, I’m willing to go again but order something else. I’ll update review once I do, I hear their falafel is really good. :)
Great Greek food! We have gone to Greek food all over the US and this is among the best!
Finally a place where when I buy a salad, they understand I want it to taste amazing, and want to be full by the end of it! The gyro salad was great! Olives were so tasty, and gyro was even crispy on the edges. I’m trying to be healthy with a salad, but I couldn’t pass up the baklava. It was fantastic. Staff was very nice and friendly, too. So happy to find an amazing local Greek restaurant!
For starters we had the warm combo appetizer, the meatballs were the best. I had the combo plate which was phenomenal!! The tzatziki sauce was delicious and I highly recommend it! Gloria was our waitress and she was fantastic. Very helpful with the menu and knew what she was talking about.

Excellent Greek restaurant. Outdoor and indoor seating. The food was wonderful. Service was good . The restaurant was a crowded and quite noisy, it did not take away from the experience but conversation at times was challenging but all in a a really good restaurant with great Greek food. A few vegetarian options.
We were looking for a quiet date night restaurant and wanted to take our tastebuds on a journey. We elected to go with Greek cuisine and I decided on John the Greek due to the high Google rating (4.7) and the close proximity to our home.
We ordered a variety of dishes to get the full culinary experience and were quite pleased with our menu options.
COMBO APPETIZER - Large platter filled with Dolmades, Greek olives, pepperoncini, feta cheese, tzatziki, spanakopitia and keftedakia. (photo)
COMBO PLATE #1 1/2 MOUSAKA 1/2 PASTITSIO - Seasoned ground beef and parmesan cheese topped with sauce, panakopita, gyros and tzatzild.
We also ordered a side of the oven roasted potatoes and we just had to share the Baklava for dessert.
We had a great dinner and received amazing service. The young man that waited on us was extremely attentive, courteous, professional, and genuine; he truly made us feel welcome and gave us an authentic Greek dining experience.
I’m a connoisseur of Greek cuisine! This place is hands down the best I’ve had in San Antonio to date!!
Amazing
Definitely worth the stop! The menu selection looks fantastic and the staff is great. I'll make another appearance in a few weeks. ...
Love their Greek dressing, take some home! Great Olives. The food is good, trying to find my favorite plate out of the menu. I've been several times in the past 3 weeks.
I've found my new favorite Greek spot in town.
I know it's 100 degrees but I couldn't resist a taste of the avgolemono soup and I'm so glad I didn't skip it. Comfort food at its best. The soup is very rich and smooth. Can I buy it by the liter in the winter?
I ordered the saganaki as my mother had never tried it before. I didn't expect our waiter to actually light it at our table! That was a pleasant surprise, a little table side entertainment. It too was perfect. The pita served alongside was hot and beautifully seasoned.
The tzatziki is not my personal favorite ever but I've found it so very specific to each restaurant that half the fun is in trying them all. It complimented the well seasoned gyro and pita, though, so this is not a knock against the tzatziki.
I don't think there was a dessert here we didn't try and they were all yummy but the show stopper is the loukoumades, they look like large doughnut holes soaked in a sweet syrup and dusted with cinnamon and sugar. They were to die for. If you don't have room after stuffing yourself with all the Greek food you have to get some to go, you won't regret it.
This restaurant is easy to access with ample parking spot directly in front. We especially appreciated the beautiful and generously sized outdoor patio.
Walking into this place the vibe was nice, the staff was awesome and the owner personally stop by and checked on us. I ordered a gyro and fries which was very delicious, there is so much on the menu I just kept it simple but I will be back for more. The Food was hot and fresh the fries were a little over done but they were still good. My only gripe is the menus, they have so many options but no pictures of the meals so if your not familiar with greek food you may have a hard time ordering. I wanted to order more items but I didn’t know what most of them were.
Met some friends here for dinner. For all of us it was our first time. The restaurant is not fancy, however it is quaint and comfortable. Our waiter was very friendly and we were checked on many times by several people. Great menu selection and we all enjoyed our meals. Two of us had the roast chicken, one had Moussaka and the other had the spaghetti. Will definitely be back!
We went after a visit to salon , the place was almost empty but the music was extremely loud and horrible uncomfortable chairs !We asked if they could turn down the music , but though the waitress ask . The owner/manager just shook his head no! They really need an update in their place it look very tired ! The waitress was kind and helpful! We got our salads, they looked pretty, but they were very vinegary! We didn't eat them . We was so uncomfortable in their chairs we asked if we could take the food home ! Food was yummy .My mom had roasted chicken, and I had octopus and well packed. They must do a lot of take out!
