The food was excellent! Our server was horrible .. we were there celebrating a Birthday for our dear friend.. needless to say our visit was a disappointment..
Long time customer!. I love Kona Grill! Nothing beats coming here on the weekends to enjoy an amazing bloody mary and sushi!
Great goat cheese and margarita flat bread as well as the chicken satay appetizers. Select appetizers are half off during happy hours!
Excellent Food!. Kona Grill is definitely one of my favorite places to dine. We usually order sushi as our appetizer. Our favorites are definitely the Las Vegas roll, and the Volcano roll, and would highly recommend you give them a try. Our entrees usually consist of the Macadamia Chicken, which is very good, and the Pork Loin. The pork is my personal favorite! You get about five medallions of pork loin laid on top of bok choy, which is perfectly cooked. One thing I’ve noticed is how flavorful their vegetables are. I love them. I would also highly recommend the bloody mary with your meal. The best I’ve had in a long time.
Happy Hour. Absolutely love this restaurant. Although i can honestly say I have never had thier suishi. The rest of their menu is delish. Their happy hours specials are some of the best in the city. Some of them regular priced can be a bit over priced though.
Happy at Happy Hour. Its true, its all about the HH. We arrived at around 330p on a Fri afternoon and only had to "stalk" out a table for a few minutes before we pounced on it. There is no 1st come 1st served in the bar area. If you get to sit out on the patio, it makes for good people watching. They have a great drink selection from beer to wine to cocktails. I had a couple of pomegranate cosmos, not too sweet & definitely w some vodka-nice. We ordered some calamari, it could have used some more fry time but was still good. The dumplings filled w ground chicken 'n veggies, very tasty & kinda fat. Then we had some spicy tuna & crab rolls, they were both fresh but the tuna seemed to be missing the spicy, the crab had a crabby flavor, both decent for the price for sure. Just wish they didn't have such an awkward seating system, people scoping out tables of patrons finishing their meal while they hover nearby watching as you sip your last drink, chew your last bite hoping your going to get your check and not another round.
LOVE this place!. Happy Hour is where it is at! You won't regret trying everything on the menu during happy hour. The drinks are especially cheap here. All in all, GREAT place!
Great. We had my girlfriends birthday party there 2 weeks ago, had a party of 12 and we all enjoyed the food and drinks. Some recommendations, try the angry edamame( if you like edamame and spicy food, you'll love it!), the bloody Mary(best I ever had). Our party had everything from the burgers to the pizza and of course the sushi, which was good, can't say the best, but it was still very good. The servers were very helpful, and friendly.
Awesome food! Great place on a date. Get reservations if they have any. The wait might be long.
What a nice suprise! The food was awsome, the atmosphere was nice. Price is very resonable for the shopping center. Service was great, highly recommend!
This restaurant is added to my husband and I's list of going-to-visit-again restaurants in San Antonio! Yay!
Chicken bbq pizza weird, yet amazing
Love it everytime. I have been to Kona Grill numerous times in Kansas City and San Antonio. We just went to the La Cantera location in San Antonio tonight for our anniversary and it delivered as always. I ordered the avocado egg rolls for an appetizer and they were absolutely wonderful. I adore the combination of the avocado dipped in the sweet honey-cilantro sauce. For dinner my boyfriend ordered the sea bass (as always) - he loves the sea bass but wasn't crazy about the vegetables and said there was nothing special about fried rice. I ordered the macademia nut chicken because it said it was their signature dish ( I generally order the basil pesto linguine and LOVE it). The macadamia nut chicken was really really good - like stepped up homestyle food. The parmesan potatoes and green beans were really good too. All of the staff at Kona was friendly and helpful and had a great time chatting with our 2 year old.
Fresh, delicious, traditional. Went on a tuesdayand the bar was hip, vibrant, and young for happy hour. Just moved from LA and this is the closest I've had yet.
This place is always packed!. Finally got to try out this place to see what the hype's all about. food was pretty good, sat at the sushi bar cuz there was so many people waiting to be seated and i was pretty damn hungry when we got there so yeah...we'll take the sushi bar please! LOL, i had the miso marinated sea bass which was very moist and flaky, YUM. the fried rice and side veggies was pretty good also. didn't know happy hour was starting again @9PM, decided to hang out a little longer, why not?! hubby's macadamian crusted chicken was pretty good also. didn't care for the chicken chili too much...didn't know why the hubby ordered it, LOL. silly husband.
Wowee wow!. I'm a huge sushi fan and love a place with different rolls. The special was amazing! Next time I'm in town I'm definitely stopping in again. The decor was also cool and the lighting was romantic.
It's OK!. The atmosphere is nice! Customer service was awesome! I ordered lobster/ahi flatbread that tasted delicious! I also ordered sushi which was awful! HEB has better sushi:)
Happy Hr!. Happy hour is their best & worst feature. Amazing prices on food and drinks, as well as strong drinks and plenty of selection. The only down is that happy hr is only at the bar/patio & it gets busier than heck. If you are in the mood to fight for a table (not joking) then this is totally worth it, otherwise don't waste your time.
M m m good. Angry edamame and Picasso roll (not on the menu) are a must! Not sure I've ever eaten from the regular menu...
Nice place. Had a very nice lunch here. The atmosphere is very pleasant. My meal was good. Prices were a little high, by still reasonable.
Great HH if you can get in. I give it a 1 star for the way they handle their Happy Hour. Their specials are fantastic there is no question. There food unquestionably good. But the part that makes me seethe is that they only allow their HH in the bar! In their teeny tiny bar. There were 9 of us looking to come for Happy Hour.. we arrived at 515 and the tiny tiny bar was jam packed.. with "vultures" (people scouting to snag a spot of leavers) hovering at every corner. To get a seat at HH, you would have to camp out as if you were buying U2 tickets. Its insane.. meanwhile the restaurant is all but empty???WTF? Needless to say it's not worth the ridiculous wait.. we walked down to Yardhouse where you can sit ANYWHERE and get their HH specials, be comfortable, no vultures and listen to great 80's music. Im sorry Kona but you're good but not worth even coming back to try for HH..why bother?
Pretty good. Love the sushi. Have tried multiple times to go for happy hour.. always extremely packed and no tables available. Must go VERY early to get sat in the bar.
Fun place. This place is always fun to go to, their sushi isn't the best in town their chefs don't seem as skilled compared to actual sushi places. But always fun on weekend nights and their happy hour has good prices!
Lively Happy Hour. The happy hour is not to be missed, but make sure to get there early or you'll be standing around for quite a while. The bartenders don't skimp on mixed drinks and are pretty good about keeping your glass full. The happy hour sushi selections are entry level but their reduced price makes it a reasonable addition to a few drinks. As far as I can tell, the people who go there aren't afraid to talk to strangers, so make sure you're got your game face on.
Happy hour is great...if you can find a seat!
Only worth going during happy hour if you can get in drink specials are that great and sushi rolls on special are just ok
Very good food and waitstaff. She was able to answer all about the sushi and was quick and nice.
Like it, but.... I like it, with some reservations. I've had good food and good desserts there in the past, and happy hour is not to be missed. Most recently, however, we went with a large-ish group of 10, and the restaurant was so noisy that one end of the table couldn't participate in the other's conversation.
I also think Kona Grill is slightly over-priced for the quality of food it offers. If you're eating at La Cantera, you can get a better bang for your buck elsewhere.
Kona is Numero UNO!. I get the Big Island Meatloaf which is descrived as "traditional meat loaf enhanced with sweet italian and andouille sausage, served with button mushrooms, skin-on white cheddar mashed potatoes and wok tossed vegetables, served with our shoyu-cream sauce." This dish is tops in my book and I am never disappointed. The only thing I didn't like about the restaurant is how at dinner, the bar area gets packed with college kids who tend to drop f-bombs while children are nearby waiting to be seated with their parents. Maybe lunch time is a little more family friendly?
Kona Grill (yeah)!. Every dish that I have tried at the restaurant really rocks. I especially enjoyed the Pad Thai and the calamari appetizer.
Its nice..... Honestly, its not all THAT great. It's good but it's just missing something in my opinion
Happy hour drinks and appetizers are perfect here. Ask for the avocado egg rolls... Tastey!
Good. In relations to Sushi, good, not great but the place has a great ambiance! Edamame was great though!
Best sushi in town. Salads are terrific, too.
Always a winner!. Have had every single item on menu at least 2 or 3 times and recommend every single one. You will be surprised how good the meatloaf is, or the pork, or a simple ahi sandwich.
I live 25 minutes away from this place and I have traveled here just to get Sushi to go.
Food = Amazing, Service = Wonderful. I had dinner there a few weeks ago. Tried to get in on the happy hour, but it was too packed, so we dined-in. I'm glad we did. Our server was very knowledgeable and very helpful.... and patient! I don't usually go out for sushi, but I was in the mood for it and I'm clueless when it comes down to it. She made wonderful recommendations and was very attentive.
I will be back soon for sure!!!
Good food. Great sushi! I love coming here, but consider going for an early OR late lunch as opposed to prime time. This place gets packed, especially at happy hour. But I've always been more than satisfied when dining there. One of my favorite restaurants in the city. Great menu selection as well.
This is one of my favorite restaurants when I visit San Antonio. Everything I've had is delicious. The waiter was kinda enough to ask if I had any allergies or dietary restrictions before he put in my order. I had the avocado egg rolls and the shrimp tacos. The egg rolls are a personal favorite of mine. They are amazing. Pretty pricey though at $20 for 2 egg rolls. The waiter let me the know the tacos were a little spicy. They were but they were delicious. They had about 3-4 shrimp per taco so I was able to taste the shrimp in every bite. I can't wait until I'm in town again to try some more dishes.
Nice place in La Cantera to stop and grab food, but prices are outrageous for portions and quality. I expect my sushi to be a little pricy, but if a dish costs $30, I expect the portion to be reasonable. Everything was tasty, but when we needed a refill or any assistance, it took forever for us to find our server. Would strongly recommend going during happy hour between 2-6 on weekdays if planning to eat here, tons of reasonably priced options for happy hour. Restaurant is pretty and modern, but music gets a bit loud for conversation at times. Would recommend the patio if at all available.
Great service from our server, Lexx. She was attentive and pleasant. I had the macadamia French toast from the brunch menu and it was fantastic! I also had the Avocado rolls which were good. Great presentation of food, however the prices seemed a bit high for the portions served. All-in-all, it was a good experience.
The food here was amazing! I have to say this is some of the best sushi I had in Texas and San Antonio (I’m from the east coast here with the military so I know good sushi) since I’ve been to Texas (over a year) I have had mediocre food to say the least. Everything we had today was great. I had the prime rib which was good (didn’t love the mash potato’s but I’m not a big potato person) and my boyfriend had the ribeye and he said it was amazing and loved the fingerling potato’s. Prices are a bit high but since this was some great food it was worth it. 10/10 would recommend
Tasty, Crowded, Loud 🍽️
Service could have been more attentive; but the Cilantro-Lime Chicken Skewers were extremely flavorful, and more than made up for it. ☺️
Unfortunately, The Happy Hour Menu doesn't apply on holidays; so if you're coming in with friends during a holiday week, be aware appetizers and drinks are full price. 😬
I can always rely on Kona Grill to deliver a consistent and great service. The food never disappoints and always has me leaving satisfied. The KG Cheeseburger is to die for. Have to cherish restaurants who can always deliver what they offer.
Mattie is a great waitress. She was attentive, easy going, and nice. She made sure to keep our drinks refilled and had all the accommodations we asked for. She even asked about allergies, which no worker had ever asked up until that point and I have been to Kona grill on numerous occasions.
This review is not about the amazing food this review is about the amazing server named Mattie. I was having a rough day until I decided to grab something to eat & was greeted by a bubbly personality. She was attentive & always had a smile. Her calm & pleasant demeanor made the atmosphere & experience that much more enjoyable. Needless to say I will definitely be requesting her next time I pop in. Kona Grill has a good one on their hands!

When you first enter you're automatically greeted by a loud but upbeat style hangout location. There's lots of beautiful decoratives and interior designing that gives it a cozy and well-lit tone where you'd want to celebrate or enjoy time with family and friends. Although it doesn't necessarily scream "family oriented" it is kid-friendly and they are just as welcome so please feel free to bring all ages with you!
Mind that all of these events took place during Mother's Day so it was very busy and crowded during this time and the staff were in a rush.
• Inside was very crowded upon arrival as everyone, like ourselves, were there to celebrate Mother's Day. The wait time was short, but it's highly advised to book a reservation so that you get priority placing
• The inside was fairly clean although we did have some utensils that were dirty and the bathroom floor was messy (the toilets were spotless from what I found though).
• a lot of the dishes come in big portions and will be filling even if you are sharing the meals. They offer to-go trays so you can take leftovers with you!
In terms of the food, everything tasted amazing and came out while still hot so we enjoyed the meal. I'd say out of all the foods the rolls and penne were among my favorites!
• The Las Vegas Roll was savory with a slight sweetness and had a nice, light crunchy texture from the fried exterior. The sauce and noodles paired well together and offered an interesting new taste.
• The rainbow roll had a fresh and cooling umami flavor that wasn't fishy at all and featured beautiful presentation. It's the perfect size to share if you're trying sushi for the first time or ordering multiple entrees.
• For the Ribeye Meatballs I didn't eat the macadamia nuts (I'm not a fan of raw nuts) but the meatballs themselves were well seasoned and the mashed potatoes were soft with a sweet sauce. The savoury aroma and the firm but tender nature of the dish was a nice pairing.
• The Lemon Garlic Penne had a fresh citrus smell that felt perfect as a summer dish. The flavor felt open with the earthy feel of the tomato and arugula and the small spice of the chili flakes that would dance in the back of the throat. The garlic bread was pleasantly crunchy, seasoned, and also included cheese (it makes for a great dipping into the remaining sauce). It was a very vibrant experience in looks and taste.
• The NY Strip Steak was probably one our least favorites, but it wasn't bad. It was a bit difficult to cut through as it was partially dry and tough and slightly unserseasoned, but it was still a nice taste with a lovely grilled aroma and a small kick of spice. The potatoes paired with it were crispy and soft and well seasoned (a great compliment to the steak) and the offered sauce was decent (but we preferred the food without the sauce so we didnt use it much).
My favorite experience besides the food was the friendliness of the staff and how attentive they were despite being overwhelmed by so many customers. They greeted everyone at the door, made effort to check-in with tables, were kind when we had requests for services (asking for new utensils, extra plates, etc.) and even handed out flowers to the mothers as a gift. I appreciated this little detail the most as it wasn't something the restaurant had to do, but chose to include just to make the experience all the better. Kona Grill pairs great service with an energetic atmosphere and flavorful food that I'm sure anyone would love to experience and is why I highly recommend for anyone especially for hosting celebrations!
We were out shopping and decided to stop here. Mid-lunch time and we didn’t have to wait very long at all. Honestly, my only complaint is how FILTHY the outside patio floors are. I was wearing brand new white shoes and when we left, they were caked on the bottom with black slime. Definitely needs a power wash.
Other than that, food came out quick and hot. I can’t remember our servers name, but he was very attentive and kind.
Our waitress Mattie was wonderful! She served us right away, the food came out super fast and she was super kind and helpful throughout the entire meal. It was our first time eating at Kona Grill, and we’ll definitely come back and ask for Mattie!
The food was tasty I had the fried chicken sandwich and my wife had the crunch roll. Didn't have to wait long for lunch to arrive. Our server (Brandon).was excellent. Very friendly and professional. Great service I recommend this spot
