Sometimes, an excellent recovery is better than just a straight ahead good experience. Our visit started off a little shaky, as they didn't have the reservation I had made six weeks prior. However, the floor manager (I can't remember his name but this was the Saturday of Labor Day weekend), quickly corrected the situation and found a table for my group of eight. We had just enough time to snap a few pics on the patio and then we were seated!
I can probably count on one hand the servers I've met that knew their menu as well as Keith knew his! This guy was a wealth of knowledge, in addition to being fun and charming. He didn't show any annoyance at our need for separate checks (told at the beginning) or our smattering of questions. He didn't steer us wrong with any of his suggestions (the burrata was especially fantastic) and anticipated the tables needs (more sourdough working before we even asked for it). Our evening (a celebratory bachelorette dinner) would not have been as enjoyable or as memorable if it wasn't for him!
The food was also fantastic! On paper, our plan was to leave dinner and immediately head out to the bar. However, everyone was so enamored with their entrees that we pulled an audible to make a pit stop at the hotel in order to save our leftovers. There were lengthy discussions about how much we were all looking forward to the second half of our pastas. I had the gnocchi and it was to die for! Also, the deviled eggs are divine. I'm so glad someone else at the table ordered them because they were life changing.
We sat near the kitchen, which was slightly warm (they warned us it would be) but otherwise perfect. The patio has a gorgeous view if you're into outdoor dining. The restaurant is on the campus of the art museum so lots of character and atmosphere. Highly recommend checking it out!
Overlooking the riverwalk, the once beautiful Barretta Hop House is now an elegant chic Tre Trattoria.
You enter through the patio, overlooking the riverwalk. Inside, you are greeted by the hostess and the earthy Italian aromas fill the air. Once you are seated in the dining/kitchen area, you are able to glance out the windows to see the gorgeous SAMA courtyard all while listening to the romantic sounds of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and many more.
The food is absolutely delicious and flavorful! The pasta is made to order, and you can definitely tell. The atmosphere is very romantic and lovely for a date night, just drinks or any celebration. My husband and I will definitely return. Our server, Anastasja, was amazing!!!
They do get busy, so please call or reserve a table online.
This was our first time here very beautiful and the food is cooked fresh to order. And Micheal was our waiter omg love this guy very pleasant outgoing knows his stuff on the menu đ ask for him ..
Tucked between the San Antonio Museum of Art and the River Walk, Tre Trattoria was comfortable with excellent, attentive service and delicious food. We enjoyed sitting on the patio with a bottle of wine, some beautiful appetizers, incredible main course and a must-- Nutella 3 Ways. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Delicious! This is on the San Antonio Museum of Art Campus, right along the Riverwalk.
I attended a demonstration at the museum, and walked over for a late-lunch after: The White Truffle Radiatore (which, gluten-free becomes Rotini) was an absolute flavor explosion; the Gluten-Free Pasta was perfectly cooked; and each bite tasted just as magical as the last. đ
Service was excellent; and the background music was the inviting 40s-60s American Songbook
Will be back. Thank you!
I ordered the golden beets, deviled eggs, the cavatelli pasta, and the Nutella dessert. The beet serving size was good for a table of 2-3 and the deviled eggs were magical, rich and good for 2-4 people. The cavatelli was delicious and meant for one. The noodle texture is like gnocci (dumplings), and so if you have a thing against doughy texture then be aware, but I enjoyed it. The one thing Iâd pass on next time around is the Nutella X3 dessert. It is a mild, semi-sweet dessert that just didnât hit the spot for me. Possibly, if it were more set/firm/chilled I wouldâve enjoyed it more.
As of June 29th the outdoor lighting is not working, so plan to dine earlier if sitting outside, or stay inside all together.
Ask to be seated at Bar. Thereâs only two seats at the bar. Youâre right up next to the cooks and the bartenders. They literally had us sample all kinds of dishes and drinks. Super friendly and great experience. 20 out of 10 Stars!!!!
The pulled-to-order mozzarella is always great. The Gouda and truffle radiatore was amazing. Smokey, creamy, savory goodness with a crunch, and quite a big serving too. Been there before and will surely visit again.
Phenomenal is the first word that comes to mind. I went here to celebrate my birthday and the server was super knowledgeable about the menu, made sure to accommodate my fatherâs gluten allergy, and provided great wine recommendations based off selected food choices. Iâm already planning to go back to try other dishes. Highly recommend! Oh and it doesnât hurt that itâs right on the River Walk so the views are stunning. Canât wait for cooler weather so I can enjoy the outdoor seating.
So⊠they do listen, the Burrata was impressive unlike what it used to be wit itâs candies tomatoes, pumpkin seeds and basil olive oil. The âItalianâ Sammy was yummy⊠as long as you like pesto (the fusilli pasta that comes with it is supposed to be cold). The Gnocchi was delicious, but quite heavy with its walnuts, pancetta and cream; expect to share or take some home. Donât order the espresso - $4.00 a shot đ. Service was good, thought a tad slow. Overall we really enjoyed the atmosphere, the food and the experience - sit outside if you can. Reservations are highly recommended; the place is on the river âbehindâ the Museum of Art - go through the museum and take the door on the right into the patio. The entrance is on the left of the place.
The food, ambiance and service were absolutely perfect.
Antonio was our server and he was super attentive and helpful. The food was perfection. Even our kids enjoyed it!
We started with the Fresh Mozarella and ordered pizza for the kids. My husband had the Lasagna and I ordered the Smoked Gouda Radiatore. Everything was delicious!
The kitchen is an open concept and there is ample seating inside and out. The patio is right on the River Walk and a great spot to enjoy a meal or drink.
Quaint Italian restaurant with great food and service. Pay for parking across from the San Antonio Museum of Art. Walk through or behind the museum to access the restaurant.
We had a wonderful lunch during our visit to the San Antonio Museum of Art.
The food was very good. The menu diverse with a nice selection of wines. Paul Leon served us and he was very knowledgeable about the menu and made a memorable experience. We were at the restaurant at 11:52 a.m. on October 14 and got to witness the full solar eclipse during our meal. Very memorable experience.
Great location in the upper riverwalk. Nice patio sitting area and 2 different rooms inside in the A/C. The room we sat in was located next to the kitchen⊠they must have a venting issue. All the smoke from the kitchen stayed in the building. Everyoneâs eyes were burning by the end of the night.
Service was great. Food was good. We ordered the mozzarella and artichoke apps, bolognese, and spicy pepperoni pizza. Cokes are per can. No refills. We would return for dinner again.
We went for restaurant week and enjoyed our experience overall.
The good: friendly staff, interesting Italian salad, herb chicken was AMAZING. And the Nutella dessert was decadently impressive. Also, great value for restaurant week.
The not-as-good: The salad was very slow to come out, the bisque was lukewarm, and the trout was rather disappointing (looked like a pancake, no sides, and over-salted or something...?).
If the review were based on my food alone, it would be 5* and if it were based on my friend's, it would be 3*, so I'm doing a 4*.
Food was super good and different offerings than other Italian restaurants. I liked that they had handmade pasta and fresh mozzarella. Little bit hard to find. Look for the sign on the garden gate. Service was exceptional. Highly recommend.
The food, service, and atmosphere is amazing. My only complaint is I wish they had directions on there website on where to park and walk, and have a sign or 2 pointing you in the right direction (granted they might have and we could have missed them).
Tre Trattoria's greatest assets are its ambiance and beautiful location. It's a perfect spot for a date, and a drink on the patio is a fine choice any time except in pants mid summer. However, the problem is that it's greatest asset is not the food. The food is good. But, the food is only good. The pasta and sauces taste fresh, but the subtle flavors are so subtle that they don't leave an impact or memory. For example, I just had the bolognese pasta and enjoyed it, but I couldn't tell you how it tasted. The best dish is the gnocchi. A vegetarian should remove the panceta. All in all, it's a fine choice, but I'd need to explore the menu before outright recommending.
Tried this place for the first time last night and overall it did not disappoint. The chicken was dry was the only reason it received 4 stars. It is a great place for date night and special occasions but make sure to make a reservation.
