It's a great place! Service is great and food is delicious. I recommend this place to all.
A great restaurant, decent prices. And the management and staff is great. My daughter had her reception for her wedding there, and it was amazing. Management and staff were on point. This is coming from a person in the service industry.
We went there with company from out of town who wanted "gpod Mexican food" on the recommendation of my husband. We ordered appetizers and meals. All of it was really good. It isn't someplace I would suggest you go if you are in a big hurry because it wasn't the fastest service ever, but it's a sit down restaurant... The waiter was super nice, the food was good... The shrimp cocktail was a little hot for this girl, but it was still really good... so good, in fact that my friend from out of town went again tonight with some of her family that lives in town.
Tomatillos service is excellent!!! Selina our waitress was on point!!! And Rudy the manager on duty greeted us and made us feel comfortable.... Oh! and the fajitas were unbelievable!!
Very good food. And fast raspberry margarita was really great I never had one before maybe one day I'll go back
Forget texmex on the river! This place was so much more authentic and tasty. Get there before 7 weekdays (incl Friday) for $4 17 oz margaritas and reduced price appetizers! Ever had cheese and chorizo set on fire at your table? Excellent! I had a combo plate that was delicious, wife had mini fajita tacos that were great. Service was terrific. Must go here!
Best tortilla soup in town!!!! Try the Tres Leches also to cap off your lunch. Atmosphere is very cozy and the service is prompt. Orders come out correct.
when coming to sanantonio my brother took us there and it was his fav. now ours....never had a bad meal ....good maragritas......yummm my husban loves the chilli renlo. so GREAT!
Really neat dining experience - when it was new. This is still a fine example of the Tex-Mex genre but now so dated it has become Grandpa's cafe. The prices have stayed reasonable so still a good value for a good meal after a day at the botanical gardens or the Witte.
Shades of the Cadillac. I like the Cantina's interior with the brick walls and columns, dimly lit but bright in spots with natural light and a bit of greenery from well placed plantings; not enough to be considered what they euphemistically called a "fern bar" back in the 70's though. Without traveling to the border it's about as close as you are going to come to the old Cadillac Bar in Nuevo Laredo (which I sorely miss - with the exception maybe of its namesake here - the Cadillac Bar near the Justice Center). Haven't found a replacement yet for their "Famous Ramos Sloe Gin Fizz". The bartender put on a real shaker tossing show when making one.
A bit of a hike from where I live, but I have been here numerous times over the years and have not had a bad meal here. Anything goes well with an ice cold Carta Blanca though. Since we visit so infrequently, the standard beef and cheese enchiladas are all that we have had and those are pretty good. That's our "yardstick" plate by which we usually determine if we like the food at Tex-Mex restaurants. If they can't get the enchiladas right, the rest is usually a lost cause.
For a nice atmosphere, good service and some pretty good Tex-Mex, there aren't many places that I'd rather go in the '09 area.
Good, fresh Mexican food. I ate here twice while in San Antonio, got a mixture of the usual enchiladas/tacos/burritos, and really enjoyed it. This and every other tex mex restaraunt I ate at in TX was head and shoulders above the food they pass off to you as Mexican in Pennsylvania.
I liked it.. Nice atmosphere, excellent cilantro-y salsa, great cocktail, friendly servers. I had the tortilla soup, very flavorful with lots of veggies. Also had refried beans with warm flour tortillas, good bacon flavor to the beans.
Would eat here again.
Hand made guacamole magnifico! Have them bring you there hot salsa; very good!
Good but not great. There is something about this place that keeps me coming back. It's not that they have the best Mexican food, and it's not their drinks. I can't really put my finger on it but it just keeps me coming back. Maybe it's the friendly service, or the close proximity to home. Whatever it is, it work and I don't ever leave disappointed. Try it for yourself.
Nice Guac.... Pretty good fajitas and the table side quac was a nice touch... worth the $.
Great people great food. My family eats here often. We live on the south side so there is no shortage of good Mexican food nearby but tomatillos is worth the trip great spinach quesadillas and margaritas. Five stars!
Broadway Tex-Mex. I eat here pretty regularly as I live close by. That said, the food here can be really great, or just okay, depending what you get. The fajita meat (beef or chicken) is always excellent and you can get it in most dishes as opposed to just seared or ground beef. Also, the table-side guacamole is a treat. Thats about where REALLY good ends. Everything else is just okay. Theres nothing bad here, it's just not where I eat if I want really good Tex-Mex. Everything else makes eating here an easy choice. The atmosphere is classic Tex-Mex (with Mariachi's most nights) Service is always outstanding and theres never a wait for a seat. They really do have a seamless, friendly, efficient staff here, especially when I eat at the bar. Always. Prices are fantastic - I can get in and out for under $20 including Margarita. (Which are really good) Parking is good and it has a Guard. For an easy night of Tex-Mex on Broadway, this should be an enjoyable evening for just about anyone.
Beef fajitas are clearly a cut above the routine. The meat is succulent, tender, very flavorful. Guac prepared at your table is loaded with fresh tomato, onion, and chiles. The staff are friendly and the service is prompt. Tomatillos is value for your money.
Better Than the Lotto. What are the odds. Our service was way above any we had had in SA in the last 2 months. Glasses were refilled without our having to ask. All, and I mean all of the dishes were removed from the table within minutes of finishing our meal. We were offered apitizers and desserts. To top it all off our food was hot and tasty. I highly recommed the Green Chili Pork stew. The very best item I have had in a Mexican Restaurant for quite some time.
Good Mex... But not spectacular. This is one of the places that I regularly eat at, it's not expensive at all and the food is good enough to keep me coming back. Love the atmosphere, chips and salsa are always good. If you're craving some Mexican food you won't go wrong if you're nearby.
My best dinner experience.. Was great, the best fish cilantro at never try it before, service really great, fresh flavor on the table sauce, good margarita choices. the staff awesome.
A San Antonio Classic. This is one of the best cheap Mexican food restaurants in town. Their margaritas are fantastic, but they do pack a punch. I especially like their quesadillas.
Celebrated mom's 70 bday our family event was excellent and the catering was excellent both Rudy and Angel we're great I was presently surprised as we had never been to this restaurant. Ty miss Victoria and management for welcoming us we felt at home ty.
Great food and I love the menu options. Everything I have tried has been sooo good. Tomatillos Restaurant is part of my husband’s family tradition from decades ago. I am so glad they opened a location near us now we can continue the after church dinning experience. Get the nachos and the mini flautas it’s so yummy.
Liked this place for the margaritas, specifically the Cadillac, which is the guava margarita rimmed with tajin. The food was ok, but a warning do not come here thinking you will get traditional puffy tacos. What you will get is small circular thick corn tortillas, that was disappointing. The rest of my group seem to like the carne asada and the pechuga de pollo.
I visited here for the first time the other week. I had the Tuesday lunch special - Chalupa Plate. The food was great as well as the service. I would visit again sometime.
Brings back memories. I used to go to this place when it was on Broadway. Lots of history there. I ate all the chips and 2 things of their delicious salsa. My Carne Asada was ok. Not grilled. The others had your traditional dishes. The flour tortillas were excellent. The tasted homemade.
My experience has been very great? I have been at two different parties there. They went above and beyond to accommodate us. Customer service was great. Drinks are made well. . Management was friendly and professional as well as attentive.
Did you know they have Drag shows? It's a separate business doing the event here but it was fun. It was all inclusive to include the meal and drink vouchers if you chose that, plus they had plenty of free tasters. The show was like 2 hrs long with 6 or so performers, that is a lot and it was not that expensive for all that.
Great first visit. This location feels expensive compared to original location on Broadway. As it was early lunch we passed on one of the many Margarita options and just had lunch. My Chicken Mole Enchiladas were excellent. Rich, velvety mole with a sprinkle of Queso Fresco crumbles on top of, dare I say overstuffed, enchiladas. My wife’s bowl of Tortilla Soup was large and topped with fresh avocado. Some fresh brewed tee, lots of chips and salsa and we had a great lunch.
Great spot for Happy hour and dinner! We sat outside on upper patio. Amazing service. The Margarita menu is wonderful 🍹
As soon as you are seated, water, delicious salsa and chips are served. I love their Spinach Enchiladas and Fireball Margaritas. Ask for servers Ruth or Giselle. They provide excellent service and are very attentive. In fact, the hostess and the wait staff all seem to be providing excellent customer service. You won't be disappointed!
Great Mexican food with a nice sports bar ambiance. What more could you ask for.
The atmosphere was excellent, service was great, and the food, even better. I ordered the "Guadalajar " plate. The enchiladas were great. It came with a tomatillo enchilada. The green tomatillo sauce was amazing. It also had a chicken enchilada with cheese sauce, a puffy taco, rice and beans. The Guadalajara plate overall was awesome.
My sister had the "Combo de Mexico"
One beef enchilada, one cheese enchilada, and one crispy beef taco.Served with Mexican rice and refried beans. Her plate looked amazing as well. She also loved her food.
Overall , Excellent!
A definite must go to!
We decided to check out Tomatillos Restaurant & Bar Mangonada Margarita and we were well received. We decided to sit at the bar where we ordered a House Mangonada Margarita and a Chicken Bowl Salad, both were good and the bartender was friendly and professional.
Really liked this place! Forgot to take photos of the food but snapped one of the chips and salsa, and fried ice cream with sopapillas....best chips and salsa I've had in a while! Cheese enchiladas were great, and flour tortillas were amazing! Oh, and service was on point! Definitely going back!
This place is pretty good. I got beef tamales and my bf got crispy tacos. Their tamales were delicious and they were hot when I got the plate. I love their salsa, it taste authentic to me plus its got a lil kick to it. My bf had a dos equis marg and that was actually really good. The only thing I would say is they are a little bit pricey but everything else was great!
Have I been here three times since my first review, maybe! (Mind your business 😂 😉)
I tried the Sour Cream Enchiladas today, Y’all!!! These are the best enchiladas I’ve EVER had!

Rubio, you were great! Thank you for such wonderful service.
Family went for lunch and decided we’d be back for sure. Chips are perfect and they give each person their own salsa (to avoid double dipping, side note they did thus before COVID. *Genius!) Ordered a Mango, Watermelon margarita, delicious. Meal we ordered a Chimichanga, and an assortment of enchiladas. We tend to play it close to the chest when trying a new restaurant but the enchiladas & chimichanga were so good we all decided we’d try something we’d never had next time for sure.
Went to eat with a big group Saturday night. We gave such a short notice since we were waiting at other restaurant nearby but
hostess and servers were able to accommodate us quick and still give good service even though we left a little later than closing time. Beer was cold; plenty of tvs to watch the game, food was good and kids were satisfied.
We’ll be back again
First time here experience was good.
Enchiladas are descent you only get two enchiladas with sides..
Most places give you 3?
My husband got the chicken and beef fajitas for 1/2 lb it's only enough for 1 person..
So next time my husband will have to order more. So we can share.
I will definitely be coming back in the future.
