Authentic Peruvian Ceviche
Came in just for the ceviche; Waldo had a buffet that I did not even tried. I just asked him to prepare me a seafood ceviche; it was fantastic! Service excellent and Waldo was very entertaining. I would highly recommended. Enjoy!
By far the best Peruvian food I've had at any restaurant & the buffet is amazing. But the best part of this place is Chef Waldo! He really cares about what he's doing & he makes sure his guests are happy & comfortable. Very warm and comfortable environment. Love it!
AMAZING!. The best tasting food in San Antonio! Chef Waldito has a way with food, and it shows in the way it's prepared. They are very loving and make you feel at home. Give it a try :) your taste buds will be pleased.
Best tamales ever. Not your traditional Mexican ones. Lunch buffet for $7 with drink. Get there early. Only about 10 tables. Friendly owner/chief. Soups are really good. Overall everything was good. Go there @ least 2x a week. Call ahead they are not always open.
A unique adventure. Great food, excellent conversation and a blend of everything I needed for the evening. We will be back with more friends.
Food is great the pork Tamales the platanos the soup and beans amazing Great lunch Buffet chef Waldo and wife make you feel right at home Amen
Delicious food. However,do not expect fast food. Owner was very nice and service was great. The tamale was excellent bIt's a small restaurant and we will definitely be back. The tamale, limo saltado and dried rice are recommended.
Definitely for seafood lovers!. Don't let this place fool you, it maybe small and it does have only one waitress which is the Chef's wife ( who is very nice). If you are feeling adventurous and want to try something new do it! I used groupon with my honey and first we ordered an appetizer with some potato and cream sauce that was heavenly I could have licked the plate clean then for my meal, I ordered the Peruvian rice with the variety of seafood and let me tell you it's a lot of food! I added the red spicy sauce to kick it up a notch and went very well together. I will come back and try their lunch buffet after the waitress explained it has a variety of different peruvian foods to try. The prices were pretty good too. Some people don't know what to expect when they come to places like this one so if your taste buds are shy stick to your regular stuff. I heard one too many customers tell the waitress that the food was "a little too... this and that"!

One of the best restaurants in the city. You have to go during the lunch buffet so you might have an opportunity to chat with the normally very busy Chef Waldo. He's not only an incredible cook but hilarious, sweet and amicable. The service is excellent and the food... Angels weep when they serve food there. Delicious red beans and rice, peruvian tamales wrapped in banana leaves, juicy plantains and perfectly cooked yuca. The tenderness of the meats is also spectacular. This is probably not only one of the best in the city, but the best in the nation. I don't believe I dined in CA or NY or Austin in ONE place that matched this Latin American dining. I can't vouch for the midwest unfortunately but I have a feeling Waldo would champion there as well :)
The food is delicious! I get a dish called mixto. Seriously, the best food I've ever had! I savored every bite. Chef Waldo always comes out to greet us and is very friendly.
A unique experience and far more fun than any other restaurant. Chef Waldo is friendly, helpful, and skillful. The tamale was outstanding. Each plate is generous and carries multiple flavors, and definitely worth a visit.
First time at this restaurant for dinner. Small and quiet, but cozy. Chef and his wife make you feel at home; like family. Chef meets everyone and loves to strike up conversation. Food is amazing! The seafood mix ceviche was a winner- light and lemony, very fresh. Papa rellena- potato stuffed with meat was so yum. Yucca fries were amazing with the spicy sauce. I order an off the menu dish which had rice, beans, chicken, roast pork and plantains. It was huge! Definately comfort food. Will definately be back soon! And its byob!
Great Flavors at Good Prices. Fish is served in a wonderful Peruvian way here. The yucca served on the side was very tasty and a perfect texture. The place is so very... Peruvian. And I mean that in a good way. Well worth a visit. Check out the seafood. It is worth it.
Out of this world!. My husband and I love to try little "hole in the wall" restaurants and this one is a Treasure! Chef Waldo is an amazing (and humble) chef. The food... spectacular! We had the daily lunch buffet and was served by the chef himself-wow.. Chef Waldo even went out of his way to make a little special batch fried fish for my husband and I. Where was the last place you went to that that happened? You can not go in expecting "tex-mex" which a lot of folks think of when you hear rice and beans. Peruvian food has a flavor all its own and style all it's own. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants something a little different.
Muy Bueno Chef Waldo!
Refreshing!. Dont be fooled by the exterior appearance of this little gem... we walked inside only to be greeted by the owner/chef himself. We were seated at one of the 5 or 6 tables there and then brought up to the station where the lunch buffet was being served. HEAPING plates of puerto rican and carribean deliciousness were handed to us. From the yellow rice with gondules and beans to the white rice with black beans, the fried plantain, the yucca, the crispy pork skin and melt in your mouth meats (pork and chicken) and the amazing pastelle! Not to mention the array of obviously homemade sauces!! All of it made me feel like i was sitting in the kitchen of a dear friend in the heart of the island. i cant wait to go back for dinner!
Es muy bueno. Today my co-workers and I went to El Cebiche de Waldito. The food was amazing. At first I was a little wary and unsure, but after starting with a cup of seafood soup, I tried their main course of the day and it was incredible.
The hot sauce is VERY spicy so be sure to just take a little. After a volcano exploded in my mouth and salty tears rimmed my eyes I knew I had overdone on the salsa.
The plantains were lightly fried and delicious. The rice was fluffy and delicious. The tamales melted in my mouth.
Overall a wonderful experience.
Delicious!!! I had a seafood platter with mussels, clams, shrimp, tilapia, and octopus in a spicy cresm sauce that was almost like a curry...yum! My husband had the night's special with chicken, pork, beans, rice and plantains. He enjoyed it as well and was happy with His choice. The chef came out to greet us, humored our young children & told us not to worry--he would fix a wonderful chicken dish with rice & homecut fries. My kids LOVED the chicken and I was impressed with the personal attention & service we received. As a previous post stated, this really is the best "hole in the wall" I think we've found in SA. Don't let the stripmall this restaurant is in fool you--this chef knows what he's doing & your stomach will thank you for indulging in some really good food here! We will definitely be returning to try the buffet we've read so much about!
I went for the first to have lunch with my husband on Monday 17 Oct 2011. We enjoyed the buffet for the great price of $6.99 which included, among many choices, arroz con gandules, tostones, maduros, peruvian tamales (which are EXCELLENT), and pernil. It was so delicious we brought 17 friends on Saturday 22 Oct. I called in advance to let Chef Waldo know I would be bringing a large diverse latin party. He not only went out of his way to accomodate us, he made us all feel like family. He was able to modify the buffet to apease all of our tastebuds. All of my friends were amazed with the excellent service, divine food, and awesome hospitality. We have definitely found a new place to enjoy our native comfort food. Kudos to Chef Waldo and his wife Josie!!
WOW! DELICIOUS!. A gem in the rough...this little location has food with lots of flavor and personality. You can tell that the chef "Chef Waldo" takes his cooking or should I say masterpieces to heart. Personally, I love the peruvian tamales made with banana leaves and the AWESOME fish ceviche. He has a daily buffet that's really cheap considering all the food you get. I have never had a lechon that tasted so good. My husband is all too excited to go here to eat. To drink, try the Inca Cola. I love it here. Today there was actually live music. This place is what you call the "authentic hole-in-wall" that's better than you would ever expect! Chef Waldito also does catering called Divine Taste Catering. I wish I'd known him when we got married...trust me - he would have catered our event! Try the food - trust me - you won't be disappointed!!!!
Peruvian and Caribbean specialties delight the palate thanks to Chef Waldo, a Peruvian native who has relocated to SA after several years in Miami.
Awesome!. Peruvian cuisine in San Antonio...finally!
IYKYK... If not you NEED TO KNOW! Sooooo good! Best Peruvian cuisine in TX and best I've ever had! Chef Waldo's business and family have been deeply impacted by Covid and he needs all the support he can get. Seriously, insanely delicious and fresh cooked food by one of the friendliest and most generous man I know. I've been coming here for 14+ years and don't plan to stop!
This is truly a whole in wall GEM. It's not pretty or fancy, but if the taste of the food is what matters to you- place this restaurant on your list. The owner/chef is super friendly and will treat you like family. We tried the lomo saltado plate and the chicken lunch buffet plate and both were super moist and packed with flavor!
This place is a true hidden gem. The food is incredible and Chef Waldo is such a passionate, amazing chef. You have to stop by and give his dishes a try. Highly recommend El Ceviche De Waldito.
Lunch is served buffet style but wait….. why is the food like home made you ask? Because the ingredients and spices are fresh. No fast food here. Open your mind and heart to this experience. You will not regret Chef Waldo’s candidness and hospitality
Food was excellent, service was excellent also, if we have another party or visit again San Antonio for sure we'll be there enjoying Peruvian food😋😋😋
You are greeted by Chef Waldo when you walk in the door. Chef Waldo is a friendly extroverted guy who loves food. He was a buffet and a menu. The ceviche was great. It is easy to miss this place. I think there are 8-10 tables total. This place is definitely worth a visit.
This is by far the best Peruvian/Cuban/Puerto Rican restaurant I have visited in a long time. The attention to detail on the dishes is phenomenal. Once you start eating something magical happens in your mouth, the explosion of flavors and the variety of ingredients makes the food out of this world. I ordered the beef with gandules, it comes with fried plantains and rice with so much flavor. Also tried the spicy seafood creamy soup. Everything was delicious, and the service, you can't get more personalized than this, Chef Waldo himself recommends you what to eat and tailors your dish for you. The place is very cozy and romantic, it reminds you of a upscale restaurant in a smaller version but once you taste the food, it takes you to a different level. I will most definitely recommend.
Absolutely unique experience. Waldo is great. Food is great. Family style meals and wonderful energy. I'd set aside a little more time than you think so you're not rushing.
This small spot is a true culinary treasure, offering delectable homemade buffet-style dishes and Peruvian ceviche. The flavors are simply outstanding.
The warm and inviting ambiance makes you feel right at home, while the chef's charisma adds a special touch to the dining experience. His passion for food is evident in every dish they serve. He is the whole staff team.
I was initially hesitant to try the buffet, but I'm glad I decided to try it instead of ceviche. Each offering was a delightful revelation.

Chef Waldo is fabulous! He welcomed my whole family into the restaurant and made us feel like we were eating at his own kitchen table. The food was divine. Everyone ate it all. We will be back anytime we are in town!
