Part One.
(Seems like I had more to say than was allowed?)
Unexpectedly wonderful customer service, all employees friendly, even bus boys. All came around very regularly to collect completed played and such. Counter service, with knowledgeable cashiers; a , clear and large, denoting the sides and desserts available and already sold out. I was also very glad to find out that they are not one of those places that always undercook and are always out of meats early. Definitely one of the places that do it more as a exception, an in case, rather than expected sell out a few hours after opening. Now for the menu. Expectedly, it includes a few items similar to Chacho's. But they only borrowed the highlights. For example, they have the famous Kong nachos, but this time with upgraded BBQ meat! Featuring the same homemade tortillas, and familiar choices in tacos and burritos. Now for the rest. The traditional way to serve barbecue, with bread, sides; sandwiches, loaded potatoes. Self-serve drinks, self-serve condiments, sauces, including a hot (warm) BBQ sauce, and about 8 other ones, in bottles, waiting to be used! Glad they had spicy, sweet, tangy, and regular ones to satisfy anyone in the family. It might not sound like a lot, but one of the biggest things is that several employees were not only friendly, but excitedly so. They seem like they actually wanted to be there!
I actually live within a ten minute's walk here. (I pass by pretty much daily.) They have been semi-open several times, only to (personally) fool me. I felt most offended. How dare they tempt me with a new post-smoked BBQ place and then take it away as if to say unabashedly & boldly, "Hahahaha! Only kidding!" Yes, I could hear the manical laughing. Several months ago, I found out they are owned by the same crew with Chaco's, Chaco's & Chalucchi's! (Very interestingly about the same time Chaco's & Chaluccui's right across the street supposedly burned down.) Well, now I needed to find out whether one of the classic gems for Tex-Mex and Nachos could do as well with barbecue. A few months ago, spied construction workers outside for several days in a row. This was very promising, for I had seen them before 4 maybe at the most today, right before they disappeared, of course. Then I would start seeing graffiti and all the lights disappear; yet another "only kidding" situation. As days passed and no movement otherwise seen, I admittedly became frustrated and pessimistic. Was I going to have to suffer indefinitely?
And then, praise the culinary gods, I saw notices of them opening soon. Before I knew it, in my trying not to believe so as to percent much disappointment, I was almost surprised to see it actually open! Real people inside. Real customers!
I hesitate to call it a dream, but it might have partially felt like it since I had been waiting it for so long and been craving it so many times.
Well. Good Goodfire BBQ live up to the hyped expectations? Actually, yes. Even more than expected as far as ambiance and service go.
Specifics. Already noted on the excellent service. the Ambiance primarily includes an array in neon signs, a classic jukebox, and a patio perfect for sunny days. Family-friendly feel, comfortable, a place to become a regular.
Food. *Brisket, a la carte, fatty. Not the every best I have had, but among the top. Interestingly it was more dense and messy than most. Pretty sure this is better, even though different. but slices seemed thicker, but the same physical side as other places? It tore apart in bigger, heartier chunks? Either way, this is some of the best brisket (trust me, I have tried over 25 new barbecue places all over Texas in the last two years) I have had in the past couple years. Yes, must be the thicker tasting cuts, but the marbleization and tender, fall-apart moistness did not suffer. I approve! *1/2 Chicken, a la carte. Only 4.99! Though it did suffer from the seemingly inescapable dryness in the breast, the outside portions and leg were moist and full of that flavor, having absorbed it from the post-oak barbecue!
