Holy cow. One of the many amazing Italian joints in Little Italy with plenty of deli soup food and drinks with something for everyone.
Stopped in for a late lunch and grabbed a seat at the bar. Loved the big windows and natural light - plus it sits off the main Little Italy road a bit so it was quieter and just wonderful.
Started my meal with the bisque (soup) which was just delicious. Then thoroughly enjoyed an order of the crab ravioli! Everything was super tasty. I also saw the “cheese wheel pasta” (noodles in a being made in a parm wheel) and I have to come back for that in the future.
Overall, great find & a big fan. Thanks to the guys waiting the bar area!
Stopped by for lunch today our server was Josue. The weather was great outside but we sat inside to be out of the sun. The many dishes and appetizers we had were all outstanding. Tried a couple cocktails as well which were delicious. Will be back for sure!
I had a fantastic dining experience at Bencotto Italian in San Diego. The atmosphere was charming, the staff was incredibly friendly, and the food and cocktails was absolutely delicious. highly recommend Bencotto to anyone looking for a delightful Italian dining experience in San Diego!
Bencotto is situated in Little Italy, San Diego, and we decided to give it a shot for dinner. We ordered the TAGLIATELLE with fromagi sauce and the Mediterranean salmon, but we swapped out the potatoes for pasta. The salmon was not my favorite. our overall experience was enjoyable.
I am from Boston and have been to the North End and Providence RI for some of the best Italian food on earth. Saying that, I have spent the last night and morning wondering if Bencotto was the best of all of them. Yep, Bencotto is surreal and delicious.
It’s a place that requires a reservation. Don’t risk your ability to dine here on chance.
You can’t go wrong with whatever you order. I tried whatever everyone ordered. We were all freaking out and excited about our unique orders. Like the chicken parm, we all agreed it was the best we ever tasted. That’s weird. How could that be? Well it is so deal with it.
Pastas made in house daily is terrific. Be sure to come hungry because you will leave stuffed.
I had an absolutely amazing dining experience at this Italian restaurant. As frequent travelers, we explore eateries nationwide, and this gem stands out as one we can't wait to revisit. As a sweet tooth, I can confidently attest that their tiramisu was truly top-notch. Also make sure to order the cheese wheel, you won’t regret it!
Best tiramisu in Little Italy. We ordered the cheesewheel, squid-ink fettuccine, tiramisu and torta caprese. It’s not too busy during weekday nights so need not to make reservations if you are in small groups. The service was good and the desserts were just the icing on the cake.
Pretty good pasta.. it won’t leave you lost for words or saying mmmmmmm. Dishes looked great. I got the cheese wheel pasta, squid ink, and octopus. They offered fresh parmesan cheese halfway through the meal. Service needs some work. Saw our waiter like 3 times the whole meal. I’ll pass on this spot if I’m in the area.
By far, BEST Italian restaurant in town so far. Half Spanish, half Italian here and I couldn’t have loved this place more. It tastes 100% authentic, they did a great work. We ordered Harmonium for drink, and as an appetizer we got the Fiori di Zucca Ripieni (sorry, no pics. We crushed it). My boyfriend ordered the Tagliatelle Al Nero di Seppia and he gave it a 8/10, I got the tagliatelle pesto and I’d give it a 9/10. The pasta was well done but the sauce, in my case and opinion, was excellent. To finish, we ordered Tiramisu and I have never tried one in the States or Spain as good as this one. I will even order it ubereats if it’s possible. We will for sure repeat in the future.

Bencotto doesn't scream ambience. The decor is just nice. And I arrived late for a 9 o'clock dinner and chose to sit upstairs then quickly move myself downstairs as I had the impression I was going to be forgotten. I said adjacent to the bar where the restaurant lacks in ambience it makes up for and delicious food. The lightly(seemingly Panko) fried mozzarella-stuffed squash blossoms were incredible with a Parmesan coulis. The squid ink fettuccine (not tagliatelle)with shrimp was delicious. I just devoured the leftovers. The mushroom tagliatelle stirred in the giant wheel of three-year-aged parmigiano was the cheesiest thing ever; very delicious.
The bartender was very nice and makes a good Bombay Sapphire martini. A successful deal was brokered with the smiling server: I tried the tiramisu, and he boxed up my food for me. It's served in a small bowl, ladyfingers down first with amaretto and the mascarpone and cinnamon on top. Felt like a rustic, southern Italian preparation, and it was absolutely delicious. I nearly finished the whole thing myself. Bravo.
All the staff was really nice and quick to help with anything. The cheese wheel pasta was really good and the tiramisu dessert was also great. It’s hard to find awesome customer service but they have it here.
The ambience was lovely and we came as a large group and were seated immediately and served well. Regarding the food, not the best considering other options in Little Italy. The sauces to create your pasta all were pretty bland. The only pasta sauce that was tasty was the truffle sauce. The cheese wheel pasta was the reason why we chose this restaurant. The pasta created in the cheese wheel was quite dry and not saucy as we preferred. And the cheese wheel was downstairs and not prepared table side. Maybe having the pasta straight from the cheese wheel table side would have been more tasty and saucy.
When in Little Italy , make sure you do your diligence at the Bencotto.
We didn’t have reservations for the lunch though got a seat for the two of us in no time, after the check in that is. Wasn’t super busy at the time though it started picking up right after. They have options for indoor and outside seating and we ended up being indoors for the lunch.
Jacob, our host for the lunch got to us in no time and explained to us about the options that we inquired and helped us land on the Ravioli and the Squid Ink pasta that we eventually ordered.
Yummylicious Ravioli that were filled with genuine crab meat and to top it all the sauce was to die for.
The squid ink pasta had its own unique taste and the shrimp along with it topped it with amazing taste.
We made quick work of our lunch and were definitely served well in the interim when it came to topping our water cups or the request for that Parmesan to sprinkle on the dishes.
All in all a fantastic lunch experience and we definitely and absolutely recommend Bencotto
Listen, I've had plenty of Italian food but this is easily one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten from. I ordered the cheese wheel pasta which was pasta and shitake mushrooms in a cheesy cream sauce tossed directly in a cheese wheel. It was divine!
The Calamari Fritti might be the best I've ever had. The calamari was fried lightly to perfection. I enjoyed every bite.
The Risso Fritto was also another winner. It was perfectly coupled by an outstanding bolognese sauce.
I will definitely be coming back to Bencotto's. If you come here definitely get the cheese wheel pasta. You won't be disappointed.
Popped in here for a quick snack before a big ol' dinner for a wedding. Food was great, service was very good. Only bummer is we didnt get to try their main stuff since we were trying to keep things as light as possible. Would definitely go again if in the area.
Jeff was an amazing server and took great care of us and all of the food was seriously amazing. I wish I could have physically eaten more. Great ambiance and comfortable patio seating too.
Loved the food and atmosphere. The food is DELICIOUS!! I would definitely recommend going to this place. It is a little pricey though so if you are looking to stay in a low budget I would recommend saving this place for a special occasion.
