A British island in San Diego. Nice and friendly pub with good drinks and food. Lots of expatriates from England hang out here for obvious reasons. I recommend it.

From being raised in England and then moving to San Diego. I came here for lunch with my mom, and had the fish and chips. Wow! If I closed my eyes, I was transported back to my favourite chippy on brighton beach. They even got he chips down to a fine art. (I even managed to congratulate the chef as I was heading to my car.) great place, great atmosphere and wonderful service!

The fish and chips with mushy peas was well neigh some of the best I have ever eaten, and I include some fine establishments in Old Portsmouth, UK.

Amazing place. We came 4 times in 3 days. We even had our low key anniversary dinner of their amazing fish and chips. Everybody who works here is friendly and very welcoming. They have all the beers I love and I’ve learned how to properly say Smith-icks! 😝

My first visit was fantastic. Being an expat and was missing home comfort foods. A friend had been trying to get me to visit from Portland. I had the full English breakfast. After 7 years of looking for chips done like home. Found them here. Highly recommend you visit if you have not yet.

I've eaten here a few times over the years and the food is consistently excellent. Had the fish cakes for the first time this week, quite tasty and generous.

Always a go to when I’m in SD. I know I’ll always get a proper pint ( or half if the case were) hear good music, get friendly conversation, catch my match and walk out with a full and happy belly. A stop to the shop for some Wine Gums is always in order too!

Walking in, the atmosphere was lively!! We had a lovely server who took our order and when it arrived, it was amazing!! The fish had a great batter, crispy chips that never went soggy on us. Salt and a bit of malt vinegar definitely hit the spot. My favorite was the ground beef & veg pasty, AWESOME pastry with a lot of filling!!! They were very generous I loved it. The steak & ale pie was delicious, just a tad bit salty for my tastes but it was very lovely!! Thoroughly enjoyed it. All around this was an amazing experience, I'd be glad to come back again!!

(3.5/5) OVERALL: nice quaint pub serving British food. Service was a little slow - likely due to not having enough wait staff. Came in the evening and thought it was a tad too dark for the setting. Some of my friends orders were messed up and the waitress forgot a few items that was requested. (4/5) Fish and Chips: the fish had a solid layer of batter that wasn't too thick or too thin; however it did suffer from the batter being unseasoned. The fish had a perfectly crispy exterior with a super flakely interior. The fries suffered the same fate of being unseasoned too unfortunately. (5/5) Sticky toffee & custard: came out too hot to eat and burned my tongue. Minus that, as others have mentioned, this is probably the best dessert option on the menu. Toffee wasn't overly sweet and paired well with the warm custard.

I had the pleasure of visiting Shakespeare Pub for the World Cup final, and I must say, they went above and beyond to make the experience unforgettable. Not only did they open early to accommodate fans like us, but the atmosphere was electric with the excitement of the game. The delicious fish and chips were perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, capturing the essence of a classic English dish. The English breakfast was a delightful treat as well, featuring all the traditional components that make it a hearty and comforting meal. The staff was attentive and friendly, adding to the overall positive experience. It's clear that Shakespeare knows how to create an atmosphere that combines great food, excellent service, and a passion for sports. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a memorable dining and sports-watching experience. 🐟🍟🍳🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿⚽️🥈

Take your picture in the English red phone booth! Friendly folks, great English food, outdoor patio, we like their fish and chips, snakebite, and fried pickles. Large portions of fish and chips, I wish there was a smaller portion option. There is one toilet in the bathroom, so be prepared for that. Parking is a hassle and the lot across the street will tow you.

Reminded me of being in UK again, was fun! Authentic gruff service, matter of fact comfort simple British grub. Mushy peas is $5 extra, I wasn’t that desperate for it! Nice pie and also Apple crumble with custard. Shop with typical British products, like Heinz sauces and baked beans, Marmite etc. There’s free parking at back.

Such a nice pub feel! And the British import store is amazing. The beer choices are great too! London Pride, Boddingtons. The curry fries and Shepard’s pie are out of this world. The Chips are good! and the fish is tasty. Peas need butter.

Shakespeare Pub became a regular hangout many years ago for my group of friends and I. I should start by saying, the staff is amazing to continually put up with us, and everyone else that regularly patronizes this fine establishment. If you're looking for British / Irish /Scottish cooking with American portion sizes, this is probably the place for you. I'll just say this, get a Scotch egg, a Guiness, and a glass of Jameson. There's never a time when that combo is a bad idea.

Shakespeare’s has been a local community favorite for a while. As a San Diego native we’ve had many birthdays and celebrations here. Great view, great atmosphere. Good staff, good food. Wish they still carried boddingtons, it was the only place in SD I used to be able to find it. Well, things change, but (except for the beer) this place doesn’t.

Okay my mother’s English. I remember being a toddler before emigrated back when I was four. So I was raised proper. If you know what that means you know. I have to eat here if I’m anywhere close while running errands. My British aunt was taken her along with my Anglophile father and aforementioned mother when they visited me a few years back. Everyone was completely satisfied. First off the place is clean, and casual. It overlooks the airport. I’m a retired aerospace engineer so in my mind the view is tops. As to the food if you are British you will be satisfied. The fish and chips is standard. The chips are proper chips. Plenty of them with real malt vinegar on the table. The fish is of decent size with a perfect batter, crispy and not soggy. Peas were just right. They also offer coleslaw or American style fries for some reason. I had the Sunday roast a while back. I could imagine my Uncle pushing back from the table getting the last bit of gravy with a satisfied look. As only a child of the depression and blitz could look satisfied. The pies and such have always pleased those I’ve brought through, even my gourmand son. My vegetarian niece found something that she devoured with pleasure. I forget what but when the picky eater is happy you just smile. There is a very good variety of beers that are respected. With my Sunday meal I had a nice Bitter that was perfect. My beer brewing son in law thought that the selection was excellent. The soft drinks on hand are both American and British. The staff are professional and courteous. They take care of you without fanfare. Remember to tip generous and such. These folks are great. I could see bringing folks for a casual business lunch. The food enough variety to give anyone a decent well cooked meal. I and many I know drop by here for dinner on the way home. Like I brought my folks and family it’s conducive to family conversation.

Our waitress was extremely nice and the food was pretty good! Only complaint we really had was the whisky sour wasn't what we're used to. But loved the atmosphere!

This pub is a must for a go-to. Amazing food, amazing atmosphere, amazing drinks, and amazing service. I thoroughly enjoy every time I take my family to this pub. I, as well, enjoy every time I go to this pub without the family. Great for brunch, great for breakfast, great for dinner. Wish the meat pie had mutton, though. Shakespeare pub is the only place I have found that is able to make my favorite drink correctly. Believe me, I have tried to get every other high-end restaurant in daygo and abroad to make my black velvet correctly. Nobody, but this place can do it. Please provide Shakespeare pub with your patronage. You will never regret it. It will become YOUR go-to as well.

Nice spot with some good meal and drink choices. Went at 11am, not crowded, but a nice amount of people to keep it hopping.

🇬🇧Great outdoor seating with decent food. Starting with the good: our server was very friendly, the decoration around the bar is authentic, and I loved the adjacent shop with all the eats and treats from UK, Ireland, and even South Africa. The relish with the scotch egg was great. The bad: I think the food is overpriced and that the quality can be better. It was tasty but not worth $18 a meal and $8 for the scotch egg. I grew up in Ireland and travelled to the UK many times to visit family so I’ve had some great fare from the Isles so this is why I think the food here can be improved.

Plucked from the heart of England, this pub looked and felt extremely homey. We spent our time there eating, drinking, and watching the world cup qualifying rounds. Service was a bit slow but it was nothing dreadful. The deep fried green beens were incredibly delicious but the fish and chips were a bit lacking for us. The kids meals were very appetizing and it was a great portion for my daughter. Will definitely return the next time I am in town.
