Fred's- a great place to be with a great vibe. Their dog friendly patio is great, surprisingly not many places in San Diego are that dog friendly. The music and atmosphere brings a refreshing twist to Old Town, with its bright colors and rock and roll theme. Not your typical authentic Mexican restaurant but the food is wonderfully fresh and the MarGariTaS are the BeSt In ToWn! Daily Happy Hour Specials and the menu is always changing and improving.
Been here several times: LOVE IT !!! Dined at many of the restaurants in this area. By far this is the best value and best tasting Margaritas. Treat yourself for TACO TUESDAY ! Simply the best deal in Old Town. Great Outside seating. Kid and Dog friendly.

We were visiting Old Town, and it was time to find a place for dinner. First we noticed that there were many dining choices. Then we noticed that a few had really long lineups and wait times. After a quick discussion, we decided on Fred's. No wait, the decor was fun, and the food and service were good.
SWMBO and I started out with Margaritas; her's was lime, and mine was strawberry. Cold and refreshing. SWMBO had the Chicken Enchiladas. Tender chicken chunks in a savoury enchilada sauce.
I ordered the Baja Fish Tacos, which came with two, beer-battered cod filets on corn tortillas, along with cabbage, cheese, diced tomatoes, tomatillo sauce, queso fresco, salsa fresco. The tortillas were just a bit too small, so a few bites fell off to the plate.
Good meal, without the wait.
Excellent food and service. We should've skipped the other places and went to Fred's! Nice size portions! Yummy! Within walking distance of the main Old Town hotels.
Ay ay ay ay! :) thats our second stop for taco tuesday - we came here for drinks aka big ass margaritas. Their music is fun, and their stuff is pretty nice and helpful!
This is a bad story that had a happy ending. We were seated and no server came for almost 20 minutes. So we decided to walk out, when the manager heard us and insisted we stayed ... and the meal was on him. We then got served by him personally, we had margaritas and burritos and enchiladas plus chips and salsa. The burritos were enormous and the pork and beef were well marinated but the burrito had a little too much rice and black beans as a padding, and not enough veg inside. True enough, when it was time to leave we had to pay zero for our meal and drinks. So it's good karma for me to write about our experience; the manager cared enough to make it good for us, and that should be recognized.

Great. Love the atmoshpere and the menu. Food was great. Guac was tasty. Only complaint was beer was served in a large margarita glass. Would have preferred something different. Portion sizes were large and price was great.
Very flavourful food and there are a few unique items on the menu. Atmosphere is great and the servers are very friendly and attentive. Even if you are seated outside on a chilly evening, the outdoor heaters are very good at keeping you comfortable. Vegetarian friendly.
Despite the name of the restaurant, pretty decent Mexican food. sublime usd talent shows up for taco Tuesdays. I recommend it.

The Diva Rita is delicious. Prices are reasonable. Steak fajitas are some of the best fajitas I've ever had. They prepare the steak to order.
I recently popped into this venue for a quick drink during happy hour and it was well worth it. They had good deal and super friendly staff. I enjoyed our drinks and appetizers. Grabbing a seat at the bar was great and they had plenty of sitting for dining as well. Great spot for eating and people watching. I’d highly recommend.

Came here because it was dog friendly, and left with to-go boxes of good food. They have a doggy menu, great margaritas and they use that distinct San Diego tortilla. Loved all of it.
OMG, I have always loved Mexican cuisine but gotta tell you that Freds make me wanna eat Mexican 7 days a week without worrying about gaining calories. The food was so delicious and authentic, and their service was also great. I ordered Fajita Carne de Asada which was very well cooked with their homemade tortilla bread, they also brought me a free tortilla chips and salsa as an appetizer

Of all of the restaurants in old town, Fred’s is always a safe option. The food is great, the service is great, the drinks are good, it’s just a good time. Old town can be overwhelming because there’s a lot of Mexican restaurants to choose from, too many options. But Fred’s is always a safe option in my opinion. If you’re in the area, I definitely recommend trying them✌🏾

We visited Old Town for the Dia de los Muertos celebrations and came to Fred’s for lunch. Given the celebrations I assumed it would be busy and was very happy I booked a reservation earlier that week because the wait line was long. If you have a reservation you can skip the line and go straight to the host stand. The hostess was kind, welcoming, and got us seated right away.
Our waitress was attentive, and brought us waters and complimentary chips and salsa shortly after being seated. She was quick to get our orders in and did great at checking in periodically throughout our lunch.
I ordered the Chicken Tostada Salad and it was delicious. The spicy black bean dip at the bottom really makes it! Would definitely recommend if you are in the mood for a good salad.
My only complaint was how loud the live music was. The artist had a great voice and everything sounded good, it was just very, very loud. We were sitting at an outdoor table right by one of the speakers, so if seated further away from the speakers, you may not notice the sound level as much.
Food was great and staff was super friendly. The only reason took one star we kept on waiting for drinks. We ordered them first then food. Food came drinks still didn't. Finally got drinks, got second round and again had to wait long time to get drinks. Otherwise we had a great time here.
Lovely place, we came for tacos and they did not disappoint 🙌 excellent menu, almost too many choices! Burritos are huge and filled with delicious stuff, also highly recommend. Great margaritas - we had the regular ones with salt. Friendly staff and great atmosphere, would definitely come back!
love the $12.45 margs !! a great size & a great price! the strawberry flavor is the best, however the mango & original are good too. Only the first basket of chips & salsa is free just in case you didn’t know! They are dog friendly & have their own doggie menu which is creative! Definitely a place to relax with a margarita, the food is decent.
Right in old town. Service is always on point. Food is terrific. They would get 5 stars but they couldn't get the sunny side up eggs correct. Even though they tried twice. Go on taco Tuesday it's awesome food at a reasonable price. Fun atmosphere
Great location in Old Town with big outdoor patio. Very good food and excellent service. I had the Chicken Tostada Salad and it was the best Mexican salad I’ve ever had. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the salad dressing was so good! Hubby had the Chili Verde plate and he loved it. Dog friendly with a dog menu, too. We will be back for sure.
Great food and music! DJ was amazing, loved the atmosphere for a Tuesday! Biggest plus was that it is dog friendly. Highly recommend!
Great food and excellent service. This place is super cute and the food was very filling and delicious. We ordered the beef chilli and a chicken salad to share between two. There was plenty for both of us and we definitely didn't need afters.
Short wait time, the food is yummy, and the staff are friendly. Is it the best Mexican food you can get in old town? I personally don't think so but still felt very happy with my visit in Casa De Freds. The place is dog friendly which is always a plus!
Fun spot for Mexican food in Old Town. Service was great. Huge portions on the Nachos and Rolled Tacos appetizers. Kids meals for 8.00 seem like a bargain in Old Town.
We go here for the taco Tuesday special and they have a great Cadillac Margarita that I enjoy. Look for it to be busy on Tuesdays as it's a very popular place. It's also very delicious and the service is excellent. A lot less expensive than most of the other places that we have tried for tacos on tuesday.

The initial maitre d' was pleasant. It was fairly empty so seating was quick. We placed our order and received chips and salsa then waited and waited. I asked for more because of the long wait and the waitress was going to charge extra.
The mgr gave us the chips and said the order had to be remade. Both of them?
The food was pretty good,even though she failed to give me sour cream, but charged me for it.
Food was good. Best part was not that they were dog friendly but how nice they were to my pup. He got better service than the humans got. Only kind of joking.
The Cinco Chicken Chingaderas was so crispy on the outside, we absolutely loved it, is a must try here. Their Shrimp and crispy chicken tacos were also good. They have good variety of margaritas and cocktails too, tried the Spicy margarita. Service and ambience is good.
