What a find! Had a great time here seems like the perfect spot for Oktoberfest, nestled in hip ocean beach not far from sea world this place was featured on food networks restraint impossible as it transformed from its original design and menu into its current state. The staff was experiencing a large party at the time we arrived but they did not falter. They still provided attentive knowledgeable quality service and product. The German beer on tap was outstanding and the food was excellent. Authentic, cozy great bar and beer garden in a great area enjoyed an evening walk with nearby shops.
An impressive meal! The restaurant has a great atmosphere, and the service is attentive. Despite waiting for a table for 20 minutes, it was completely worth it. The dishes were delicious, generous in portion size, and served with sides.
Amazing German food, charming decor, great beer selection. This meal today was everything I've been craving. The rouladen was so tender I could cut it with a spoon. Flavorful and filling. Definitely coming back to try more of the menu!
Had a great selection of German to austrian beer. The food was authentic and tasted great. I had an austrian beer and schnitzel covered in mushroom gravy with a side of red cabbage krout. Which I highly recommend.
The swordfish was incredible. The martini was delicious. The raspberry dessert was wonderful. However, service here has dwindled to the point of, Denny's has better service. There's an entitlement thing going on here. I have been coming here for 30 years with my parents. And it just seems not the same. I appreciate servers for what they do. And I make a point to say "Thank you". When the server replies with a grunt, as opposed to "Your welcome". That just shows you the lack of energy and enthusiasm to do the work.
Kaiserhoff has some of the best German Food in San Diego, CA. The food is delicious, the waitresses wear Dierde the men wear lederhosen, which adds to the ambience of the restaurant.
The Spatzel, Schnitzel, and the wurst all the food are must tries!
Such a gem of a restaurant. Clean, friendly and welcoming plus great authentic German food! Highly recommend stopping here!
Visited Kaiserhof with the family. We were a party of 6. The restaurant has remodeled on the inside and outside and it looks very different from what I remember. Everything was delicious. The veal schnitzel was better than the pork schnitzel. My son enjoyed his beef stroganoff. The spatzel looks and tastes home made. So good! The portions are big. Bring an appetite. We were to full to try dessert. Next time I’m trying the Apple strudel with vanilla ice cream.
I visited Germany for a bit more than a month when I was younger and this is one of the few places that invokes memories of that trip. I've eaten here twice now along with my wife and we have not been disappointed with anything we have eaten.
The only thing I have found amiss is that when I was in Germany, I often received an option to add an egg to the top of my Wiener Schnitzel. Was disappointed the option is not offered here but the Schnitzel does not suffer for it's lack.
The restaurant is one of our favorites and is worth the trip.
First off: the only downside of our visit was our service. It just felt very mechanic. I felt terrible that I'd asked for a glass of Veltliner, the reaction seemed so offensive.
BUT. The food was delicious. We ordered two entrees with four sides, and had more than enough food for 2 adults and 2 tweens. Schnitzel...yeah, they had it just right. Stroganoff was amazing...Husband was stunned that the meat was still pink inside, and so tender. We didn't want to take home leftovers, so we ate every bite and had no room left over for dessert.
The menu seems pricey but you get a lot for that price. 2 entrees for a family of 4!!! We were also not charged a sharing fee for extra plates for the kids.
Mid-week visit. Seemed odd parking in the neighborhood but if I could cross the street for schnitzel, we'd probably do it more often than we should.
Authentic German food. Wonderful beer list. Only German restaurant I have found in the area, and I love it. Great atmosphere, nice staff (Lexi amazing!!). Very nice bier garden, wonderful indoor space. Will always come back here.
Really good German food place. Bunch of dishes that tasted quite authentic. And the portions are huge. Plus each of our selected dishes came with a free starter (choice of soup or a cucumber salad). Good selection of beers and wines as well.
Absolutely delicious with traditional salads that pair with each entrée to make an excellent and satisfying meal! The chicken tarragon is very delicious. If you are looking for simple, the cucumber salad is classically refreshing. The service is on point as well as friendly. You really cannot go wrong dining here
Had thanksgiving dinner here with a party of 5.
I chose the NY strip ,medium rare, which was cooked perfectly just not seasoned well. The sides were nothing special but the soup course was solid.
Service was sporadic but considering it was a holiday I totally understand. Overall above average for a holiday meal.
I recommend this place.
Yes it might not be as good as having a meal in Germany but this place sure makes you feel like you are there. It has the style, the beer 🍻, the schnitzel, strudel, mustard and of course the pretzels.. all that makes this place worth to visit!
We payed around $90 for
-2 beers
-Pork shank came with cucumber salad and German pancake
-Schnitzel came with green salad and German potato
- small pretzel with beer cheese and mustard.
Place 5/5
Service 5/5
Price 4/5
I ALWAYS stop in at this place on my trips to San Diego. The food is exceptional every single time. The entire atmosphere of this restaurant is authentically German and it shows in the small details of the wall decorations and the way everything is presented. Be sure to stop here for food 100% recommended
Quaint atmosphere, excellent service and well prepared food. The beef goulash was tender with a tomato and onion based sauce. The sauerbraten was fork tender with a hint of ginger. Highly recommend the house made apple strudel. It's light and flaky and not overly sweet. The menu is definitely meat-heavy but you can order additional side dishes to help balance out the meal. There is also a cozy bar and patio dining.
This place was awesome!!! Got seated right away, food came out quick and was HOT and fresh, and our waitress was awesome! A little on the pricier side but honestly so worth it for the delicious food and great environment. And it’s actually a lot of food: an entree comes with a roll and 2 sides!
I got the pork schnitzel and it was seriously so good, especially paired with the mashed potatoes. My husband also really enjoyed the apple strudel. My only complaint was that my salad cost extra as a side which was kinda lame and it had a TON of dressing, so ask for it on the side if you get it.
But yeah, our waitress was super cool and friendly and had fun with us :) I also really enjoyed the outdoor seating, I was worried it was going to be too hot but it was still enclosed enough and had a fan going that it was the perfect temperature. The sun was right in my face for like 10 minutes but it eventually set behind the screens.
Now THAT'S a Schnitzel, accompanied by some Pilsner style Bierchen (and a Swiss salad to start).
