Literally the highest quality and artistry available in San Diego. To qualify myself, I've had sushi literally all over the world including at Jiro in Tokyo (which if you are not familiar, search for the documentary called "Jiro Dreams of Sushi"). There's no other place I've been to that I'd rather spend an evening's dinner with than at Ken's. The quality of the fish he demands from his suppliers, and the way he understands flavors is nearly without peer. The attention to detail and the sheer visual magic he creates is incredible. Sake menu is superb and his accompanying chefs are cheerful and skilled. Whatever you may be from sushi neophyte to sushi connoisseur, this is the place to go. Come with an open mind and leave awed.

Not only the best sushi place in San Diego. The best in California and perhaps in the US.

Best sushi in San Diego. It melts in your mouth! My husband got the meal where they just bring you dishes. It was amazing, with miso soup as the last course to help with digestion! Love this place!

The best sushi by author, this man is a magician with the freshest ingredients flown in from Japan every week, I'm sorry Mr Ota but Ken has a modern take on a market you had cornered many years, i will happily drive 50 minutes every week to come and visit this guy!!!!! I am very happy you took on the courage and adventure to open your own place, good luck Ken our best wishes

My relatives recommended this restaurant. The sushi quality is good but far from very good. We did not have time to wait and ask for takeout. It took 15 min and a reminder to bring us a cup of tea. They were not busy at all. One of the ordered items was simply forgotten ( not even recorded). The price is very high. Everything tasted good but definitely far from five stars.

My sister has mentioned several times to visit Ken Sushi Workshop for a dinner date. She and Peanut enjoy this restaurant for special sushi dinner nights with their husbands. This unassuming restaurant is located in a business park with California Bank & Trust. One of the chefs used to work for the infamous Sushi Ota and decided to open up his own restaurant here in North County. Prices are on point to match that of Sushi Ota (meaning it’s pricey here at Ken Sushi Workshop).

Ken Sushi Workshop in San Diego, is the place to be If you're seeking an authentic and exquisite sushi experience with one of a kind chef who makes it very interesting for his patrons. Parking lot looked definitely good enough to accommodate a good amount of cars though we happened to get there via Uber as we were visiting San Diego and did not have a rental car. Right from there, we were greeted with a cheerful smile and were assigned a seat inside within a couple of minutes. We were definitely struck by the intimate and inviting ambiance. The minimalist decor, traditional Japanese aesthetics, and softly lit interior create a serene atmosphere that elevates the dining experience. The sushi bar seating allows you to watch the skilled chefs in action, adding an extra layer of enjoyment. Since we were seated a bit away from the bar we got to see a few glimpses of Mr Ken's guile in all his glory. Definitely recommend front seating (aka at the bar) to the show!!! The service at Ken Sushi Workshop is unparalleled. The staff's warmth and attentiveness were remarkable. Jacky was not only knowledgeable about the menu but also eager to share his passion for sushi. Their personalized recommendations and attention to detail made the meal truly memorable. He made sure that he understood our asks and then recommended from the options available and made our experience so much more better and every bit worth it. Having done our research and as well paying keen attention to what Jacky had to say we ordered the following: Began with 2 Miso soups along with the Salmon belly and Toro (melted in our mouth. wonderfully fat and juicy). Followed that up with the Hula role with the Mango-a-go-go and a workshop special role at the time. The freshness of the fish and the precision in preparation were evident in every piece. The variety of flavors and textures simply blew our minds. We wrapped the dinner up with a Green Tea Ice-cream that stuck a fine balance between sweet and texture and you can never go wrong with that. Ken Sushi Workshop offers a premium sushi experience and the prices reflect the quality and craftsmanship of the food. It's an ideal choice for a special occasion , when you're craving an authentic sushi adventure or simply to witness Chef Ken's guile at work. From the elegant ambiance and top-notch service to the sushi that can only be described as a work of art, it's a restaurant that stands out in the world of sushi. I would highly recommend paying a visit to them and becoming a patron of theirs. Onto more such visits!!!

As a lifelong vegetarian, it’s tough going to get sushi since it’s always the same thing over and over. Not at this place, I finally got to try some new rolls and expand my palate. I will be back.

It was one of the best sushi I had this year if not the best. The service was great. Ken the chef was super attentive. We asked for an Omakase and he kept serving us food until we asked him to stop. After that he still brought us a soup to settle everything down and a homemade ice cream. All of the nigiris were amazing and they also served less traditional food like soft shell crab tempura. Ken was always happy to talk to us and explain the dishes. Would highly recommend sitting at the counter. They service was excellent. They were always checking that we had drinks. The atmosphere was really nice as well and it looked like everyone was enjoying the food. Highly recommend visiting.

Very nice restaurant. On the pricier end but I had a great time dining here with my associates. Sushi and sashimi that we ordered were very nice and fresh. Personally, I enjoyed the sashimi a lot.

It's more of a fusion rolls that gets me. Do order workshop rolls or Hula rolls. The combination os just good. But my favorite is a hotpot with fish roe it test so good! Do stir fast since the rice can burnt easy. But it was a fun experience. If you sit outside in summer I recommend some mosquitoes repellent. Because that will help your overall experience without scratching and eating. My memorable icecream is the truffle. Just good to end the meal.

Where do you find sushi in Carmel Valley? Ken Sushi Workshop is a nice little find. High quality, fresh and delicious sushi. Parking is easy. The prices match the quality of the sushi. If you're in the area, it'd be hard to find better quality sushi.

They were pack when I got there so they were a little slow but I was more than satisfied. The spicy salmon had some chopped tomatoes with a zestiness to them. It was a very creative look and tasted great. I recommend this for gatherings of less than 10 people. The quality matched the price quite well. Although I prefer cheaper sushi because of my time in Japan it was still worth while.

First of all I strongly recommend you make a phone call to reserve before coming. I tried to walk in twice but didn’t find a spot. The nigiri sushi was fantastic! I would recommend Toro Uni Truffle Nigiri which might not be on the menu but you can ask the waiters. And for outdoor seating you can sit in the transparent tent / bubble which might be fun.

The best sushi in north county by far. I recommend getting love or pride omakase. High prices are justified by even higher quality and service.

One of my favorite sushi restaurants in north county / Carmel Valley area. Good quality, nice menu but over expensive. Always a great experience. Like I said in past, it's not cheap but great quality. Toro Sashimi, spicy tuna rice cake, chefs special roll, salmon belly sashimi are few of my favorites here. Service is good. Make a reservation in advance as it gets busy real fast.

Absolutely the most delicious and unique sushi rolls I’ve had in San Diego! The Workshop is their signature roll and it’s a must try! Not in the mood for a full order? Ask for the ½ orders for more variety. Definitely will be back VERY soon.

We went to Ken’s for the first time last night. It was my boyfriend’s birthday and we’d heard such great things about this place. Boy were they right! We had some of the best sushi of our lives. Plus the waitstaff was a delight! They saved us the perfect table for two and remembered his birthday when we got there. Ken checked in on us himself & sent over some complimentary sake. Then our dessert came with a birthday candle! All in all it was truly a magical evening and we left with full hearts & bellies. Thanks Mitchell, Ken, and the rest of the crew. We will absolutely be back!
