Great Burger. I got the Philibuster and it was delicious. Although there was no way I could eat that entire beast. Probably the BEST airport burger I’ve ever had. The fries were really good too.
The guys behind the counter was really helpful and friendly. He actually went to the bar to get me some salt for my fries.
If you’re in San Diego airport terminal 1 and your HUNGRY… check out Phil’s BBQ.
Ok, so I’d gotten a couple recommendations for Phil’s BBQ here in San Diego, but wasn’t able to make it….until, low and behold they have one at the airport.
Now I know it’s a limited menu from their main location, but it was pretty darned good.
I got a “chickless dinner”…smoked loin chunks with a side of macaroni salad and fries and a sausage link added in. I liked liked the sausage link a little better than the pork, it was smokey and really juicy. The macaroni salad was good as well, using small past and not sweet.
The BBQ sauce was sweet (little too much for me) but had great flavor and heat as well.
So all that said, if it’s this good in an airport I’d definitely recommend the actual establishment! 👍🏻👍🏻
It is good overall, the beef ribs have less meat vs more fat, some people maybe prefer this but I prefer to eat more meat 🌚
Pretty comparable to the Phil’s locations around San Diego county, which is the best BBQ in so cal. Wasn’t AS fall-off-the-bone good, but in an airport with few options, this is your best bet by a long shot.
But buyer beware - $27 pre-tax for 6 ribs and 2 sides. It ain’t cheap!!
I'm not very fond of airport restaurants ...but i need to say that Phils might be the exception to the rule. I've been flying a lot from SD and Phils is becoming my place to go when in SD airport. Last time i tried EL TORO sandwich (basically tri tip meat with Bbq) and it's really good. I feel it's quite expensive for just a sandwich (soda is not included) but again, everything is expensive inside airports...but it's worth it.
My husband and I agreed this was the best sandwich we’ve had in a long time. We ordered the BBQ Brohan and The bbq sauce was delicious and hot. The macaroni salad was the best macaroni salad I’ve had in an actual restaurant. Very creamy and the shells were perfect. Most places cannot compete with that! Especially in an airport. 5 stars
So traveling these days makes it harder to find a good meal. Or wait for a flight. But these guys make it much easier. The bartenders at Phils are professional and polite. The BBQ is good and I can see why they are busy. The service is the best. The tri tip was a little dry but the side of sauce made it really good the pulled pork was very tender and delicious. All in all a great way to eat watch the playoffs and have a local brew while waiting for your flight ✈️. Safe travels.
Good place good food.
The prices are high, but compared to the rest of the restaurants in this Airport
The best airport cheese burger I've ever had. The service was quick and they let you know how long each order will take in case you have a short layover. It's a bit more expensive, because it's at the airport, but it's worth it if you can afford it over other less quality options at the airport.
Was at the San Diego airport seen this place. Had the Phil buster with french fries. Was spectacular BBQ. Huge .
Honestly, I was hesitant. How good can ribs be at an airport? In reality, they were fantastic! Moist, flavorful, and minimal grease. Along with the fries, this was an excellent meal.
Pretty good for airport food, the Mac was a bit sour but everything else was great. Ribs were super flavorful!
So. Good. I have read in different forums that this place is overrated, but I dont think so. We ordered a Rib Meal (10-12 bones) and wings. Wow. So yummy. The wings had a touch of heat and amazing smokiness. The ribs had a tang to them. The beans also had a great smokiness & the cole slaw was super creamy and sweet. We would definitely get the wings and ribs again.
Stopped by for a bite before my flight because this place was close to my gate. Got Phil's Sausage Sandwich with sweet baked beans. Service was fast and friendly. The meat tasted fine but the sauce on the sandwich wasn't my favorite, and the beans were soupy. Overall I prefer Texas barbeque better.
You really can't find better food in an airport. Compared to most of the airport foods I've had this place is amazing. There's also a bar here so you can get a drink before boarding your flight.
Wow, awesome place with delicious & gigantic pulled pork sandwiches! And a great selection of craft beer served by very friendly staff. Also, super fast service. I’ve passed by this airport spot numerous times but finally checked it out this time and could not be happier. It was so good that I’ll make sure I get to airport early enough to enjoy on all future trips….
For airport food, this was amazing and the portions are big! Nice ribs and pulled pork. Good smokey flavor and I love the slight charing for a bit of crisp and taste. Service was quick on a pretty busy day
