Konichiwa eh, Arigato! (That’s all I know)
Shogun Kobe, a place that I have seen as I sped with a vicious intent towards unknown destinations on freeway 163 South or North.
Humbly awaiting my attention, like a gentleman holding the door for his date, this traditional-Asian designed building houses more then just Japanese Cuisine.
Like any place that allows it’s service of waiters (when I came for my first visit the ladies reminded me of the Sakura Festivals pretty and gently unforgettable, it’s true Andriea and Erika) to warmly greet us, the hostess had the customary cautious and polite nod upon our arrival, and are seating, our back to a clean and well stocked Sushi Bar awaiting the transition between lunch to dinner and the frontal view, the rear entrance leads to a quiet and shaded mini tree sanctuary paying homage to this restaurants name and exterior design.
This Japanese restaurant’s aesthetics complimented its cuisine and beverages. There is a stigma, where if a place of food has a “happy hour,” it’s not really capable of or allowed to be called 5 Stars. Rightfully so, and I would not be so presumptuous and claim I rate this place 5 Stars, but if there was a pretty polished second to a first place (5 Stars Restaurant) Shogun Kobe would be close.
My party and I came for and from a wedding, in all of our finery, our appetites were stated with plentiful selections of dishes offer off the Happy Hour menu. Their Takoyaki (octopus in the Japanese-style appetizer is a delicious mix of sweet and salty) their oysters with the simple and not over powering accompaniment of sauces coating the open face aphrodisiacs left your pallet watering. I was thirsty, but with each dish that was presented to eac member of my party, my thirst blossom into hunger. And sweet Jesus, did this restaurant not disappoint, oh try the Peach Sake and the coconut Mojito (happy hour gives you a generous amount for the ridiculous bargained price).
If you are thinking what I think when I drive on the 163 freeway, look at that Blue Japanese tiled and slanted roof, with the Marquee announcing Shogun Kobe, I want to try that place one day. Stop dreaming and go check this place out! Happy hour will give you an unforgettable experience and not break your wallet.
Thanks Shogun Kobe, And best believe I will be doing a return visit.
Shogun Kobe Restaurant is at the top of my list for price and quality of the food. It was simply amazing and the beef was very tender. The Chief really put on a good show as well. I recommend this restaurant to all. You will not be disappointed. You might also want to make reservations as this is a very busy location.
Excellent service next time I'm in San Diego I'll be back. Way better than Benihana and that Fuji steak and sushi place San Diego has. They got us in the food was excellent and prices were fair, great portion size too!! I wish they were in Las Vegas !!!
The food was beyond outstanding, the atmosphere delightful, the service was excellent! Great place to enjoy a fabulous meal.
We had a great dinner and an even better show! With the party arranged around the grill. it made for easy communication and the smells were divine! Definitely a fun party atmosphere!
Beautiful place with great food and excellent staff! Perfect for a birthday celebration.

Very good food and we had more than enough. Service was prompt and efficient. Chef Justice was personable and did a wonderful job.
Went for a early dinner, we didn't have reservations, but got a table in the sushi bar. Great service , kitchen was a little backed up, I didn't mind since we had rolls. Overall good experience
Great Japanese food- sushi, steaks, and seafood options are all excellent. The fried banana dessert is awesome too!
so we had reservations at 8pm. we did not get seated yo close to 9. i dont know what happened but they mixed us up with another table and we got bumped. after that i feel like all the service was slow.
besides that all the food was great the rice they made there was amazing. i ordered the filet and it was expertly done. even the sushi roll was really good. everyone at the table was extremely entertained. the chef was pretty funny. besides the waiting this was a great place. if im around there again i want to try it once more.
Food was delicious; however, the server wasn't very enthused about serving us. Thankfully, Chung, our cook, had an upbeat personality and a few jokes as well. Ended up giving the tip directly to him instead of having it shared with the waitstaff. The Filet Mignon was the best part of my meal.
We have enjoyed Shogun's for 27 years together and it's one of our favorite places to enjoy excellent cuisine and great Service . The Tofu Buddha delight is the entree I get every time ( I am getting hungry writing this review 😁
Amazing sushi here! I made a reservation for the sushi bar and Abraham delivered some of the best sushi rolls and appetizers I have ever had. He added a few twist to some of the classics on the menu and the latest roll on the menu is fantastic. This place really knows how to make sushi and give a great experience. I’ve only made reservations here because it does get very busy on the weekends. They have done some remodeling over the last 8 years that I have been going and the Sushi Bar is now back to its original spot, to the right of the entrance. I stopped using the menu years ago so I just have Abraham take the wheel and he remembers what I enjoy. Hats off to him. The sushi bar is a great spot for a date btw! Go check out Abraham at Shogun if you want delicious sushi. Parking is pretty tough so I have been taking an Uber to ensure I made my reservation and to enjoy some Saki!
Ahhhhhh, the rice!!!! Best rice ever 😋 The food was excellent. Our chef was awesome 👌 Love his cooking and talent entertaining us.
Will be back!!
Fun atmosphere dinner and a show. My friends mentioned better than Benihana, food wise. I got the rib eye steak with scallops combo. I think it was a good price for amount of food you get. The sushi here too is really good. We've done omakase here. A must is reservation for either dining experience.
The only bad thing is parking, but that is also everywhere around Kearney Mesa that has good food.
Pretty awesome place. I like the concept. My food was overall fantastic.
Service was fine, but the waitress was pretty slow on coming by for more drinks. I ended up just having a single beer when I would have had two is the lady just came by a little more often.
My chef was awesome though
I’ve come here on several occasions and every time they never fail to impress! Their New York steak is amazing and I love the shrimp with it. Their noodles are also amazing and the soup is awesome! I came here for my sisters birthday and for my graduation and I loved it both times. Overall, this place is absolutely amazing and I love it!
What a fun friends and family gathering place. It’s definitely a good place for birthdays. We met 5 table’s birthday at a Sunday night. The presentation of the chef is so cool, it’s a place for food, as well as for a fun experience. The foods are pretty delicious, I love the lobster tail & scallops the most, the fillet mignon is good too. Fried rice is well cooked. I don’t really like their appetizers, especially shishito peppers, too saucy foe me. Otherwise, it’s a cool place!
I had relatives visiting San Diego and took them out for lunch. This is the first time that I have been back since the pandemic; however, I have been here several times over the years. They still have the lunch specials which was great since this restaurant is expensive. We enjoyed the food, the cooking show, and the customer service at the Teppanyaki table.
My friends and I had the best time. The food was delicious and garlicy, our chef did his best to communicate and keep us entertained considering it was extremely noisy and hard to hear one another around the table. Our server was on point and came by several times to see how we were doing. Our drinks never emptied before we were asked if we needed anything else. I had only one complaint which can not be corrected, it was extremely hot inside, so when going be prepared because the grills are I think 500 degrees F and even with the exhaust going it was still hot. Otherwise when going, I suggest making a reservation for a large party of 5 or more, or be prepared to wait a bit.
Shogun is our go to for teppanyaki.
This place is always amazing, we try to go a few times a year. We were there for our anniversary last week and had a blast. The atmosphere is top notch, the food is always the best and cooked right in front of you so it is fresh and hot. I'm allergic to onions so they prepared our food first then added in the onions. 10/10
It was my first time visiting this venue and it was great. Very good food and awesome customer service. My table of 8 all enjoyed their meals and the chef was awesome. I’d suggest making a reservation before hand. Well worth visiting.
Great place to go locally for lunch or dinner. We went to lunch. Our chef was good and the food good. Was pretty empty inside. Service was just ok.
A superb dining experience!
Staff was friendly, seating was quick, the chef cooking the food on the hibachi (?) grill was entertaining and the food was excellent!
