The Peri Peri chicken is amazing and happy hour is a bargain! I'm from the U.K. and really miss great chips. The slap chips here are perfect, with plenty of vinegar! Thank you Capetown, please don't go anywhere.

Tried it for the first time on a friend's recommendation * and took her with so she could help me eat it :)) and I can see why she was raving about it. The food was delicious. The appetizers are a meal in themselves and enough for 2 people. Had the sampler platter, peri peri chicken liver, garlic fries and finishedwith a brandytart for dessert. Will definitely be going back

Cape Town Pub is located on Miramar Road near Miramar Air Force Base in central San Diego. Eating here was a new experience for me as I don't recall having ever tasted truly authentic African Cuisine. Authentic is an understatement. Funny enough, our waiter was amazed at how much we ordered. He commented that he had never seen two people order so many items just for themselves. The craft beer was flowing and this new South African food I was experiencing for the first time was exciting! "Keep it coming!" I said. What other exotic foods that I've never tasted are on the menu?

When you walk into the restaurant, you know you aren't in your average San Diego establishment. The place is huge and decorated to the tee in order to give you a unique South African experience. There are flags, paintings, art and even a small market where you can buy those hard-to-get items you won't find at the grocery store to take home. Let's say Cape Town Pub has a little bit of everything.

Cape Town Pub is not just a restaurant; it is where the local community gathers to be social, tell common stories and connect with like-minded friends. You can watch sports matches that won't be on in most sports bars in San Diego, like rugby, soccer, cricket and, of course, surfing and golf. All with that craft beer flavor only San Diego can provide. You'll find lots of new local taps every time you visit the Cape Town Pub. And that puts a smile on this guy's face! Let the match begin!

Eating here is a true South African experience. Now, since I had no idea what I should order and couldn't even pronounce the menu items correctly, I just asked our waiter, who was quite knowledgeable (and seemed to get a kick out of how clueless we were), what the different menu items were. This is how we started getting pretty off track. Every time he told me about something, I was like, yeah! We gotta try that!

So, first up we ordered a Cape Town Lager and a Sampler Plate, a great way to enjoy Cape Town's treasures. The Sampler comes with: 3 Samosas (potato, chicken and beef), 3 Peri Peri Wings, 3 Cocktail Pies (ingredients vary from day to day), 2 Sausage Rolls and House Made Cocktail Boerewors. Take a look at the photography and see how delicious they all looked. The Peri Peri wings were wonderful and the sausage rolls dipped in the house sauces were nothing short of amazing, wow! The Cocktail Boerewors were little sausages that were full of flavor. I definitely recommend you get the Sampler, but it really feeds 4, ha! Not this time.

We also asked for a side of Biltong, as if we needed more sides of beef with our South African feast! Essentially, Biltong is a South African-style dried beef jerky and, just like in the States, it tasted great! We even bought a bag to take home!

We tried another appetizer, which I believe was actually an entrée. From what I gather, every South African restaurant has its own signature gourmet pie which they make fresh daily. Cape Town Pub is no different. We had the Spinach and Feta Pie, which is Cape Town's Signature Savory filled pie. It was prepared and baked to perfection in a flaky golden brown crust. The flaky pastry literally shattered in your mouth as you bit into it releasing a wonderful buttery taste just before the robust spinach and feta flavors kicked in. A beautiful thing!

Now, for the entrees! This is where I started to feel a bit nervous - was my stomach up to the task? South African Cuisine has so many cultural influences and, come to find out, is really hearty. I literally slept for hours after stuffing myself to the point that I almost had to pass on dessert. I said almost. The two of us ordered 3 entrees and shared them like a family-style dinner. More like family of 4.

We had Graham's Signature Curry with Lamb. The dish was a slow-cooked curry seasoned with a personal blend of herbs and spices. It was served with a bowl of Yellow Rice, Carrot Salad and Sambals (a mixture of chopped

cucumber, tomato and onion). The flavors complimented each other so well.

We also enjoyed South Africa's National Dish, Bobotie. This sweet and savory mixture was composed of ground beef, walnuts, raisins and apricots and topped with egg custard. This dish came with Yellow Rice, was garnished with raisins and served with a side salad.

Next up was Boerewors Pap and Gravy: a house-made sausage (made from a mixture of pork and beef) served with Pap - South African-style polenta made from ground maize and complimented with tomato and onion gravy. All three dishes were absolutely delicious! I recommend you try a number of different dishes and share them or just pick the one which interests you the most. You in for treat no matter what you choose to do.

Wow. So good. Tonight was my first time here and it was delicious. I was with a large group so got to try a little bit of everything. Sausage and lamb were decent. Pari pari was delicious on chicken and prawns. Samoosas were delicious, meat pie was great. And the cinnamon custard was amazing. Service was super friendly and helpful. Definitely will be back, probably soon!!

Food was delicious, with a mix of dishes from South Africa and the old standards of American diner fare. Nice selection of craft beer (I had a Fou' Apricot Kettle Sour) and cocktails, spacious seating area, and gracious service.

So you know. They are changing their name officially in October, but already have the signage that has the current/old name. It will now be called something like the Malt Bar or something similar. They are under new ownership, but they told me they are keeping a lot of their current South African fusion recipes. That makes me happy since I about Ely LOVE their peri peri wings and chicken quarters! Beware, they are pretty hot, but soooo worth the pain! If I were to host a party that warranted chicken wings, I would order these for it when I wanted something different. Their desserts are also in point. I have tried all of them in the past, and I have to say their brandy tart is my favorite. They give you a generous amount, too, and is easily shared between about 2-3 people. Seriously, if you want to try something different, this restaurant is a great place to go in the Miramar area. They don't disappoint

Came here for dinner followed by a comedy show. I thought I'd try the BUNNY CHOW, both because of the name, and also because it sounded the most uniquely South African. I heard it's quite popular in Durban. Well, when they tell you that you have a loaf of bread filled with curry, I imagined something like a baguette or bread bowl. Something round and crusty. Nope, this was like a proper store-bought loaf of bread with a hole dug out the middle! It was yummy, and I think everyone else around me enjoyed their dinners as well. The comedy show was fun, too! Casual atmosphere, kind of a random location out by the furniture stores!

Tried the sampler platter and boboti. Everything was excellent! Meat pies, samosas and sausages were so fresh and home made. Boboti was unlike anything I've tried before - fluffy egg on top of sweet and savory beef, full of flavor. Definitely worth it and will be back for more!

I love this place! I panicked when I saw the Cape Town Cafe sign come down, but they still have my favorite dishes on the new menu. I have been in the US much more of my life than I was in SA, but this is still comfort food all the way.

Dinner on Friday night. Casual, upbeat atmosphere and helpful, personable service. The peri-peri wings (one of several items featuring this peppery, flavorful sauce) are a wonderful place to start exploring the varied menu. Meat pies are savory with a little spice, and pair well with thick-cut fries infused with malt vinegar and salt. The brandy tart is tremendous: crisp, but with a cake-like texture and soaked with a brandy sauce and topped with caramelized sugar. Make sure you have someone to share it with you. Great experience. Will be coming back. Tomorrow.

Love, love, love the NEW owner of CapeTown Restaurant - welcoming, friendly, (...what a pleasant change from previous owner!) We had a table of 17, great service & the food came out hot. Everyone had their South African favorite. The steak sandwich I had was awesome & I can highly recommend the signature lamb curry. We had two vegetarian family members who enjoyed the vegetable bunny chows & the potato samosas (off the Sampler Platter). The Sampler Platter is a good deal - a taste of most of the popular South African foods - meat pie, sausage roll, boerewors, & peri peri chicken. On the gourmet chicken & mushroom pie I overheard the comment, "I want one of these pies every day!" My son in law enjoyed the beer on tap & for me the vanilla cream soda on tap is a great substitute for the "original" South African Spar-letta cream soda. I'll definitely be back soon for the Sample Platter & to try out new dishes that are going to be added to the menu.

The service was excellent here. We came to watch the World Cup USA soccer game and had a table reserved for 16 as erquested. Thanks for that! The food was different and very enjoyable. My only 2 requests are: 1. Install more tv's around the whole place so the back tables will be more utlized during games, and 2. write descriptions on the menu so that we don't have to bombard the waitstaff with a ton of questions. Maybe even use more photos in the menu. This way we know what the interseting named food is. Overall I like this place. I would certainly come back and recommend!

Stupendous meal, took my family there after a visit to ballest point brewery. Everyone tried a different menu item, and they all praised their meal. A must try for a new taste.
