This is the first time coming to this restaurant with my friend!
I like the Christmas vibe there and had a good service!
The friendly staffs were very attentive and ready to get your orders!
We had a pad Thai with tofu (veggie options) and masaman curry with tofu! Those were really good 😌
Only cons could be a small plate of rice for curry. Other than that, I had a great time!
Highly recommended!
Cheers 🥂
Loved eating here!! The food was very good and the service was great!!
I got the yellow curry and cream cheese puffs. I tried to save some of the curry to take home...but I couldn't. It was too good that I didn't stop. The server kept coming by to take plates away as we finished dishes and refill water. It was very nice.
Definitely one of my go to Thai places now.
Koon Thai Kitchen is one the best Thai places in this area of the city! The staff and food are out of the park! They treat you so nicely and always bring your food quick! I love coming here for dinner with my wife! Thank you, Koon Thai Kitchen staff, for being amazing always! HIGHLY RECOMMEND
One of these best Thai restaurants in San Diego. The food is spicy so order it mild unless you truly enjoy authentically spicy food. (A medium level is about an 8 out of 10.) my go-to is the panang curry lunch special. The Thai tea is tasty too. Usually plenty of free parking. The ambiance is tasteful and festive. A great place to take a date.
When we first came in the place was pretty much empty, we were seating right away. Within 15 mins the place was packed and a line with people waiting out the door. We got lucky to come as soon as they opened. The food was great. I was a bit disappointed in the size of the curry. It was very small compared to other places. Normally it is also sweeter. This wasn’t as sweet but it was more spicy ( could have been the spicy level my husband got). The Thai beef jerky was delicious. It was crispy on the outside but yet so juicy in the middle. And the chicken and vegetables were great. The Thai salad had a peanut sauce on it that was absolutely delicious. Over all it was delicious and I would be coming back.
We came here for lunch. They have a pretty good selections on the lunch menu. We ordered multiple dishes to share abc they were all pretty good.
A great Thai restaurant. The environment is clean and nicely decorated. The food is good. I had the lunch special of Shrimp Thai Basil and it was only about $10.
Amazing thai food but be careful, it can be very spicy. For those that don’t like spicy food, specify no spice. Wonderful service and atmosphere.

First time. Had a noodles plate and a duo pork entree. Really good. Attentive service.
Welcome to the heart of the Asian Cultural District. This place was great. Starting with Garlic Edamame which had a unique seasoning to the point it didn’t need soy sauce. Followed by the cocoanut milk, lemongrass, chicken soup (which is full of whole mushrooms so if you’re not a shroom fan, skip it, get it without or just spoon them out. We opted for appetizer night and added Marinated Beef Jerky and short ribs - yum. Polished off with some pineapple fried rice. This was some of the best I’ve had and the roasted cashews were an added bonus.

Koon Thai Kitchen-
Almost all the dishes I had at this place were really tasty and way too different from one another. They have a very good spice range. I took a 4, and believe me, it was just the spice I needed.
Spring roll -
The outer layer was thin and very crispy. It was served hot, and the inner flavor was mild and perfectly complimenting the sauce provided.
Khao soi -
The dish consisted of fried crispy noodles, normal curry noodles, and the curry. It had a coconut based flavor, and it was so good. The quantity was well enough for one person.
Spicy fried rice -
The rice was loaded with baby corn, capsicum, and tofu. The quantity was so much I had to eat it for 2 to 3 meals. You will get a punch of spice with every bite you eat. The rice was well cooked and perfectly seasoned.
Drinks -
Thai ice tea, Thai ice coffee:
The ice tea was so soothing and had an earthy flavor. I actually liked the tea more than coffee. The coffee was also good, and both were very perfectly chilled and complemented the dishes.
Everything was served within time, and they also made sure to ask questions about the food and if we require anything. They also replaced one dish free of charge, as we did not like the consistency of the curry.
There is no other Thai restaurant I like more right now than Koon Thai Kitchen.
LOCATION / PARKING
Koon Thai Kitchen is nestled in Kearny Mesa on Convoy St between the 805 and 163 - just south of Balboa. It is located in a busy plaza with shared parking. I would not recommend driving a large SUV here - or anywhere on Convoy.
AMBIANCE / INTERIOR
One section of the restaurant has festive carnivalesque paintings on the wall, while another section is plain black lined with mini tiles. They have several private booths and tables in the restaurant but no outdoor dining. I’ve eaten here mostly during dinner time and the sound can be louder than average, which I don’t mind.
FOOD
If I’m visiting a Thai restaurant for the first time, I’ll usually order Panang Curry - I base their food off this one dish. If it’s creamy and the flavors are cooked to my liking, I know I’ll most likely enjoy the other dishes they offer. And I was right! I loved most of the dishes we had here:
* Beef Panang Curry - We requested medium spice. It was perfect, creamy, and irresistibly delicious!
* Pad See Ew - This is the best pad see ew I’ve had in So Cal. A close second is President Thai. I loved that it had some charring (wok hei) from the wok. The noodles were bouncy and chewy, and it had the right amount of sauce. So so good!
* Crab Fried Rice - Always a staple when I order. Good!
• Pad / Yum Woon-Sen - It’s already in the name: Yum! Crystal noodles that are bouncy and sautéed with lots of crunchy veggies. So perfect!
* Calamari - Although I wasn’t a fan of the breading, I did enjoy it with the sweet dipping sauce.
* Fried Pot Stickers - Nothing that stood out. Not bad.
* Pad Thai - Loved how saucy this was. The chewy noodles soaked it all up and it was oh so delicious!
We really enjoyed the food here because you can customize the spice level. The portions are generous too. And the food came out piping hot!
CUSTOMER SERVICE
The staff are all so wonderful here. Very kind and attentive. They checked in on us to make sure the food was to our liking.
Overall, I loved the food at Koon Thai Restaurant. I only wish we had more people in our party so we can try more dishes. I’ll definitely be back again! And I’ll happily recommend them to anyone open to try delicious Thai food!

Great Thai food with a beautiful vibe. The food was amazing with customisable spice options.
Fantastic! I got Pad Thai w Chicken (Spice level 3), cream cheese puffs, and a Thai ice tea. The staff were very friendly and super fast. The cream cheese puffs were super bomb with a nice plum sauce and the pad Thai is delicious and piping hot fresh! Good thing I got level 3 spice as it had a very small kick. Thank you, I’ll be back!
