This is the only sushi place I go to! Top choice, always. They accommodate to my allergies, they are always super nice. They plate the food in a very pretty way. And its delicious! 10 out of 5 stars. 🥰
My friend recommended this place and it was great! They have an open kitchen and you can see your food being prepared. You are supposed to order and pay first and since it was our first time, the girl at the front counter took the time to explain the menu and specials for the day! We loved the ginger chicken bento box and the tempura shrimp roll... Can't wait to try other things on the menu!
This sushi place is my exclusive go-to option—consistently my top choice. They go out of their way to accommodate my allergies, and the staff is unfailingly pleasant. The presentation of the food is aesthetically pleasing, and, most importantly, it's incredibly delicious. In my book, it deserves a rating beyond the usual scale—10 out of 5 stars. 🥰
We absolutely loved our food and experience here. Order at the counter when you enter and make sure you try everything! Great value for money and super delicious food. We were excited they had room for us when everywhere else in the area had no tables. This place started to get super busy by the time we left.
This restaurant has been here for a long time and serves a variety of Japanese dishes. Typically in Japan a restaurant will specialize in one type of food, but at Niban there is a large variety. The food is as "authentic" as you're likely to get in San Diego and the atmosphere has the vibe of a fusion of family-owned restaurant here and Japan (though larger than you'd usually see in Japan, outside Narita Airport or something). It's not "fancy", with the order placed at a front counter and the food delivered to your table, but it's good and a relaxing place to eat. There are a few tables outside as well. I enjoy the fact that they have some standard lunch specials as well as a rotating set of three specials of the day. Sometimes when you're not sure what you're in the mood for, one of the specials might appeal.
Of all Convoy restaurants they have in their area, this is the one I visit most often. They may be better curry or Maki rolls around the area but this place really have a homemade flavor a great price. Chicken ginger and their teriyaki are really good, Rice is on point and their gyozas are really good.
Hands down my fav sushi bar. Best katsu curry in San Diego imo. The prices are decent especially for the quality. The food is pay beforehand and anywhere seating. The bathrooms are beautiful. I love the staff here. Outdoor seating is so 🔥 cute. Perfect date vibes. 📅
This is a great spot to come for their daily/lunch specials. Japanese food for around 10 dollars. It's pretty much the same price as fast food, but much more like a meal. Their service was really nice too. This is more for the price than the quality.
This has been our go-to fast, inexpensive-but-tasty Japanese hot meal establishment for decades. Our hearts light up whenever they have the teriyaki yellowtail bento special (usually on a Friday or Saturday).
An unassuming storefront and understated interiors did not prepare me for how good the good was. The fry is crispy and the rolls presented beautifully. Fresh tastes and good flavors. Good value as well.
I seriously love this place. My go to place any time I want sushi. Always large portions and I never had anything I didn't like and I've eaten everything on the menu. Also the BEST fried calamari I've ever had. (Disclaimer all my food pics are from different days I've gone, I did not eat all of this in one sitting. Usually you get so much food you can take some home)
Count service to table, super quick!
Was greeted by several warm & welcoming staff upon entering the restaurant and was helped right away with directions and specials. They had a great choice of items from bentos to sushi to rolls.
They boast in & outdoor seating, cozy atmosphere, quick and friendly servers, and really tasty food.
I had the Chicken Teriyaki bento which came loaded with rice, seafood salad, regular salad, and a crispy crunchy potato cake!
Glad dine in is open again. Wishing shrimp tempura roll has some eel sauce. Just kinda try. We haven't had the dynamite roll in awhile, and its delicious. Mixed yakisoba was good too
The BEST food in the area, if not San Diego period! While I may be biased from going here my entire life, I do say it is a testament to the quality of food and service if nothing has changed for decades. Everything from the curry or bento boxes to sushi and sides is always delicious and priced at the best prices you will ever find. Every time I am in town I make sure to eat lunch or dinner here. I am and will be a forever loyal customer to this humble restaurant which will always hold a place in my heart, and stomach!
I've been coming to Niban for over 20 years. Great sushi for reasonable prices!
The rest of the menu is really good!
While the decor felt a little cheap and a bit worn and outdated, the food more than made up for it. I got the chicken katsu curry which was absolutely delicious. The vegetables had the perfect texture and the curry had a very traditional taste. The chicken katsu was cooked really well and overall really shocked at the cheap prices here. The counter serve style is great and food came out extremely quickly.
This is a top place for its price/value in Japanese food. Food is usually good although I would not call it great. For all my business trip to San Diego, considering its convenience, service and price, it is always a top choice for simply filling up my stomach without spending much, just pick up one of the daily specials.
We were charged for Sriracha sauce. I understand being charged for EXTRA sauces, but Sriracha?
What will they charge for next soy sauce, water, extra napkins?
