I cannot tell you how impressed I am with this place. It is one of the first places in San Diego where I can get consistent quality. The couple that owns and runs the place are awesome. They care about their craft and strive for perfection everytime while still delivering it speedily. Hands down the best coffee shop I have been to in San Diego. Thank you for keeping your standards high everyday. Make sure you try this place and support fellow locals.
If you're looking for a coffee place that really cares about the craft of brewing great coffee and espresso, without the snobbery, come to Bean Bar. The staff is super friendly and the coffee is the best around.
Bean Bar is one of my favorite coffee shops in town and certainly in the downtown/East Village area. The people are nice, the coffee is good and flavorful, and they actually have some good snack options! Food that looks and tastes better than if I whipped it up in my kitchen. I just had the matcha chia seed pudding and it tastes like I'll be back for more. Thank you, Bean Bar for your great service, quiet and warm atmosphere, and delicious coffee and food!
Super cute cafe and the staff were so friendly and sweet! Also the peanut butter and jelly scone was soooo good!
Nice place to have excellent coffee and the people are very friendly!
I ordered the siphon manual filter. Probably the best cup of coffee I have ever had outside of my home where I also use a siphon method.
Gals at Tailored Hair for Men (next door) recommended this place. I've finally found coffee Heaven!
Great Cold Brew. New and hip! Another solid downtown establishment with great, passionate workers. I'm a San Diegan born and raised and I really enjoy this spot.
Great attitude! Fantastic Cold brew and friendly little neighborhood spot!
This is by far the best latte in town! So glad they've joined the neighborhood.
Great and super friendly staff. Miss you guys.
10/2023 update: Changing this star rating from my original rating to five stars. I’m so glad I went back here because it must have been an off day the first time I had visited. I haven’t tried the Vietnamese Iced Coffee again but their signature drink, The Kingslayer, is A-MAY-ZING. I get it iced and it’s super refreshing and tasty. Also, since I’ve returned I’ve found that the service level here is much better and there are typically two employees which helps matters immensely. One of my favorite coffee shops now.
First time trying Hob Coffee East Village which is a super cute coffee shop on the corner of K and 11th near Petco Park. They only had one employee working which made wait times a bit long since she had to take orders and then make drinks but she was doing her best. Thankfully it wasn’t super busy or I don’t think we would have waited. Inside they have plenty of seating and sell various items related to Hob Coffee with City Connect Padres colors.
We ordered the Vietnamese Iced Coffees today which, according to their menu, is four espresso shots poured over ice and condensed milk in a 16oz cup. Unfortunately the sweetness of the condensed milk couldn’t overcome the burnt taste of the espresso in these drinks. I really wanted to like them. I don’t know if the fact that there was only one person working contributed to poor espresso making because she felt rushed or if the beans were just not of good quality but we couldn’t even drink all of it.
I’m giving three stars based on the cute location and vibe as well as the kindness of the barista but I don’t think that I would order an espresso here again. If we hadn’t take the drinks to go we might have asked them to make us something else.
Small coffee shop that has interesting flavored coffee. Being a nerd I just got a standard dark roast with 2 shots and it was STRONG. The PB Banana Honey toast was good and definitely recommend it if you like a sweet breakfast that isn’t chocolate-related. Right up the road from the San Diego Convention Center and next to the Padres’ stadium so easy walking distance from those spots.
Terrific neighborhood coffee shop. The Vietnamese iced coffee was fantastic! I also ordered the avocado toast which was fantastic. The avocado was fresh and ripe. The goat cheese and pickled onion are a perfect compliment and pairing. The staff was very helpful. Nice space to do some work on my laptop. I wish I could give more stars!
A nice coffee place in Downtown San Diego.
Food: Some breakfast option, croisants
I tried Almond Croissant which was nice.
Cortado is worth trying.
Service: good and friendly
Atmosphere: clean and quit place. Enough seating.
Everything was amazing 👏🏻👏🏻 I got a vanilla latte with an extra shot and my husband got a quad shot with milk and vanilla, both drinks were super smooth and delicious. We especially loved the avocado toast with pickled onions and goat cheese, I order scrambled eggs to pair with mine and they were fresh and flavorful. This is now one of our favorite breakfast places!
Excellent espresso! I had the oats too and they were delicious

I have now gone back three days in a row and got the avocado toast with poached egg...delicious!
Bean bar is a place that you must stop if you are in San Diego it's a fabulous Cafe and we've been going here for years. Quality is one of the things that comes to mind. The staff is super friendly and helpful and there are many options to choose from here.
Very personal experience the barista treated me like we were bestfriends. The coffee is to die for and the pastries and oatmeal were amazing. Vegan options are actually pretty great. Indoor and Outdoor dining. Non Gendered restroom is for customers only.
Cute coffee shop, located right on the corner in the east village. Great ambience. The sweetest, friendly staff. This young lady was extremely outgoing and patience. It was our 1st time there. We ordered the hot cookie latte topped with a wafer and an iced vanilla latte both with extra shots of espresso. Drinks were good. Great quality coffee beans… a nice toast. Only con- all sizes come with 2 shots, so the only difference is paying for extra milk. Otherwise, positive experience. Average pricing. Next time, I’m trying to Vietnamese.
Awesome coffee shop that knows what they're doing. The owner was very friendly and accommodating and made our experience so enjoyable. Coffee is great and the shop is charming. Would highly recommend going if you actually want good coffee.
I love their coffee here. I most recently got the Vietnamese iced coffee and it is my new favorite. A great place to do some work!
Tranquil & earthy decor, wonderful customer service, great selections of deliciously unique coffees & mouth watering pastries. A MUST visit!!!
This is the CUTEST coffee shop I’ve ever been to! The staff were so nice and the art in there was perfection. Coffee was BOMB as well! Cannot wait to come back!
Great coffee with a lot of attention to detail in the roast and flavors in the coffee. They definitely know what they are doing and are one of two of the best place for coffee I've found yet in San Diego.
Atmosphere was relaxed and the staff friendly as I chatted and asked questions about their coffee roasters and business.
I also recommend the cheddar bacon biscuit.

Read about the coffee and was excited to try a pour over!
I tried the Guatemala coffee and the house oatmeal. Both were great. The oatmeal had steel cut oats which tasted like the kind you get at Starbucks or Peets Coffee. Except Hobs comes with chocolate chips 😀. The sweet oats paired well with coffee ☕!
Great service all around. The woman recommended the coffee based on what I like and was working very hard and efficient by herself while a line was forming. Very admirable!
Nice little cafe in East Village. Located in a not crowded area. Was easily able to get a table for myself lunch time on a weekday. Wide open feel with a ton of natural light. Their cold brew was smooth and the avocado toast hit the spot. Typical pricing for a modern coffee shop ($3 for a shot). Definitely a nice place to relax and post up to do some work.
The first good Matcha I’ve had in San Diego. Partner liked the cold brew too.
Hob Coffee has a great environment to chill and study too! The coffee tasted great and it's prices are very fair. I appreciate the barista being very nice and welcoming since it was my first time going. Also the seating had this adorable sign of a Toon Link! ☕
perfect spot for a caffeine hit & small bite to eat. the avo toast ain’t like your usual avo toast so definitely give it a try. I got the Greyhound bus from LA early morning & spent some time in the cafe until the City woke (10 min walk from the station) :-) fab first impression of SD
