Service above average, food was well prepared and fresh, my wife and I had one drink ea mai tai and some other mixed drink it was loaded with alcohol > flavoring which was freat because over the course of our meal it diluted with ice and mixed in well. I felt like the bartender def hooked us up each drink was $9 ea -minus w/e the happy hour deal is. Along with our 4 kids it was a $95 meal only thing my wife wasnt happy about was our daughters grilled cheese the bread was really hard like it was toasted instead of grilled. An oversight with the rest of our experience there we split a kona pie at the end good times!!
This Islands location on Balboa Ave. is the best for their great and friendly service. Their food is always top notch. Youvhave got to try their tortilla soup!!!
Islands restaurants all have a Pacific Islands theme that makes them fun. They have better than average burgers and other sandwiches. If you order chips as an appetizer, they will keep refilling the bowl as long as you can keep eating. They also brew their own brand of beer.
One of the true highlights is the Kona pie, which is actually a large slice of ice cream cake. The ice cream itself is mocha like, i.e. you can taste both chocolate and coffee. While Southern California has many well known restaurant chains, Islands is a great casual, affordable and fun choice.
Nick the bartender is the best! The margaritas are the bomb! The manager today went way over what was expected! No wonder I luv this place so much. There's a reason I'm a regular! Thank you so much for your concern! You guys rock!!
9-18-19. My husband and I just stopped in for the salad and tortilla soup lunch special. Inexpensive and delicious! Theo is one of the best servers we have ever had.

Food is so good. Anything you order from here is good. Service is great and staff is friendly. Very affordable. Family friendly.
Service das great. Today my burger wasn't that good it was missing flavor and jalapeño peppers. The French fries didn't feel fresh. I'll still go back it's a good place just a bad day

They made me a couple of gluten free burgers by getting gluten free buns for my daughter n i and toasting them perfectly. I cant eat flour and I dont like protein burgers, so this was amazing for me
EDIT 11-6-2019 . I wanted to share a new updated experience. Today my daughter and I went to eat at Islands. Because she has a gluten allergy she (and I) doesnt eat much when we go there. We share a burger on a gluten free bun, and she gets a few cucumbers and tomatoes. Today the tomatoes were soft, rotten and a bit smelly. I complained and they of course went to the kitchen, and got new ones. They were fine. The new experience that happened was there was a "veggie dipper" charge of $1.05. It was the first time ever in the years I've been going there that's been charged to me. I'm fine with it, but after serving rotten ones, which I'm pretty sure they have abundances of, they charged us.i paid, didn't really complain about the $1.05, although with the gluten free bun it's now over $2. Ive always disagreed with a bun charge. If you want customers with allergies to be patrons, comprises by the resturants must be made. But that's clearly another debate. So this ISLANDS on Balboa has a new manager, Bobby is no longer at this Islands. Hes at a diff one.. anyway, on the way out, she came over to me and handed me a $15 complimentary gift card for our next visit there. The significance of this is it was unsolicited and above and beyond anything I deemed necessary. So way to go Islands! Thanks...

I have never been disappointed with the menu items I (or of my table mates) have ordered in the many visits I have enjoyed. The specialty burgers are top notch, something for everyone to enjoy... full of fresh flavorful ingredients- huge and delicious! Extra napkins, please. French fry orders are large as well, perfectly prepared and hard to stop eating. Go hungry, and leave full of food and drink, a full bar for those who enjoy a libation with their meal. The decor is really neat, with amazing surf videos playing on the many large TVs around the restaurant. Great friendly staff, and service. Islands is a family favorite.
Super nice and attentive waitor. Huge food portions and a great price. Fed a family of 3, including a drink for each and a shared appetizer for under $50. So much food we even had to have 2 take home boxes! Super fresh yummy fries(not soggy!).

Ordered online. When I got there they had no history of my order. I showed them my confirmation email. The waitress was so sweet she gave me a discount and they started cooking my order. (They had to ring it in again, but I did not pay online, just needed to wait while they cooked it. No biggie). A few minutes later she came out and said my online order just came through. It had been approximately 25 minutes after I placed online order. But they were so nice and the manager even came over and apologized. It really was no big deal, as I was not in a hurry. Just didn't feel like cooking, or sitting at restaurant to eat. These days it seems very rare to find a class act like this establishment!! I will definitely be back!

After some hype from friends we headed to this location to try some burguers.
They tasted so good that i wanted to eat another one but was full. Fries were fried to order, easy to tell when you work at a fast food restaurant.
The waiter was great and on point. I would definitely come back for more!
Just went to Islands Restaurant for the first time in months. It was delicious! I thought they did a really good job setting the restaurant up in a manner to follow social distancing and cleanliness with constant cleaning along with the wearing of masks from their staff. We always get the shore bird (chicken sandwich) which is always amazingly tasty. 😊👍🏿
It had been quite a few years since I'd eaten at an Islands, but it was just like I remembered. The service was impeccable, and I was very impressed. I have some dietary restrictions and the manager herself was called over to help me. She gave me a breakdown of the ingredients in their new vegan burger AND printed me out a long list of the allergen information for all of their other menu items. The next time I'm in Clairemont and want great food and incredible service, I will definitely go to this Islands again.

Good place for a burger. Salty fries and poor bussing of tables gets it 4 stars. Nice kids running the place, but they really need dedicated buss boys to keep up with the large tables. High point was craft beer on tap and good wings with fresh veggie sticks.
We had the most wonderful experience at Islands this evening. Are waiters name was Kenny he was so wonderful and kind and helpful. He recommend it all of the perfect things to eat and drink everything was delicious. I would highly recommend Islands to everyone. Islands is a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere to bring your family and friends with the most delicious food and drinks.😁🍔🍹🤙
