A great Mexican restaurant tucked away in the corner. Very inviting atmosphere and delicious food. The guacamole appetizer is one of the very best around north county.
Ponce's was a lovely place to grab lunch with colleagues. They have a concise menu, great lunch specials and attentive service. The portions were large and the food was hot, fresh and delicious. The chips they gave upon seating were warm and crispy. Looking forward to returning!
The Food was great they have a nice menu and big portions. Delicious food, lovely environment and amazing service. Definitely recommend
We had our first experience at this restaurant while visiting my son (tune in to Ben and Woods) and daughter in law recently as they highly recommended a meal here! It was truly the most authentic mexican food we have had. Our waiter, Devlin went above and beyond in service!! He was the best! We can not wait to return and highly recommend when visiting the San Diego area.
The service was wonderful. The drinks are great. Food is definitely not bad, but it isn't excellent either. We ordered a chicken fajita and a steak fajitas, there were barely any chicken, mostly vegetables. And the steak tasted good.
I really enjoyed the food at ponce's. I used to eat at their original location on Adams avenue many years ago. I would say the food has remained consistent at this other location. I ordered the carnitas plate, which is not actually on the menu but was approximately $20 and had a very generous portion of fresh tasty carnitas, rice, beans, guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo. Only thing missing were a side of limes which I requested in my server happily provided. Also came with choice of flour or corn tortillas as well as chips and salsa. I also ordered a chile relleno à la carte which was filled with cheese and very tasty.
Finally a great place for Mexican!
We went there during lunch (no crowds or wait time). The decor is very tasteful and minimal. Reminded me of the places I'd eat at in L. A. We had the pozole, I have to say that I'm very picky with Mexican food and this place was very authentic and thr flavor was spot on. I'd compare their pozole to Tortilla Joe's in Disney. The enchiladas, Cali burrito and kids Quesadillas were also delish. The portion size was appropriate for our family. The kids Quesadillas aren't these huge burrito size tortillas as you'd see in many places. They were small little flour ones that werr the perfect portion.
The guac, yes try the guac! It is also very authentic and the flavor was very good. For that person who said the chips were store bought, ours were definitely homemade and they were good! I could see where the noise might be an issue for those looking for a quiet place to eat but for us it was good. I also saw panels that drop from the ceiling in the center to aid with sound. However, this is not the place for a quiet date night. It's a family friendly restaurant that has a bar. I'm coming back over and over again. Great job with the food!
Food was tasty! Ambiance is great. Really enjoyed seeing the decor set up for Dia de Los Muertos. Waitstaff was friendly and on it! Will definitely go back!!
The food here is great - pretty much on par with the Kensington location, but the service was a little lax and it lacks the intimacy of the original location. Still worth going if you find yourself in the area and miss the old neighborhood spot!
This was our first dine-in experience post quarantine and it was great. My favorite the Enchiladas Suizas did not disappoint, full of white meat chicken and topped with a tangy green sauce. The house margarita was good but not very strong as you might expect. Chips and two types of salsa were excellent. We will be back.
Kensington location is the real deal Mexican food. This one is close. Had Huevos rancheros , Taco plate and Enchilada plates all were good. You order up front and they bring you your food when done.
Decent Tequila Selection. Recommended the Desert Pear Margarita.
I finally got in to check out Ponce’s Mexican Restaurant in Del Sur near my office. This is a relatively new Mexican restaurant in the area; an addition to their OG location in Kensington, in business since 1969. The Del Sur location is spacious and clean with a modern, casual vibe, although steeped in rich history and tradition. The staff were all so nice and genuine. I was immediately impressed by their generous and affordable Happy Hour! 12-5pm daily (Tue-Sun). You can get 3 street tacos and a margarita for only $11. I cannot think of any place else where HH starts at noon!
Anyway, I ordered the Enchiladas Suizas and it was excellent. Two shredded chicken enchiladas with a tomatillo cream sauce and manchego cheese; comes with rice & beans. The enchiladas were filled with a ton of tender, flavorful chicken. Loved the subtle, bright flavor of the verde sauce. The style of cooking and the recipes here are definitely comforting and authentic. I particularly enjoy their chips & salsa service. I’m really glad they were able to make it through the pandemic situation over the last couple years. It’s obvious this small business is committed to community and serving its customers. Highly recommended.
Great spot they went out of the way to make sure we were happy and bartender made good drinks they have a great tequila assortment and the guacamole was awesome definitely going to go back and also the prices are pretty good if you're there and you can eat anymore get the deep fried ice cream it was awesome
Nice neighborhood mexican restaurant. Good service, menu and food quality. I like their bowl burritos. So far I've tried surf and turf, carneasada and shrimp. All good. They also have kids burger and chicken strips with fries to keep kids happy. Wish they had beer on draft. Drinks choices are nice as well.
Welcome addition to the neighborhood. Food was excellent. I enjoyed the dinner much better than Miguel's. Sunday was a limited brunch menu. We were able to find nice choices.
