The last time I was here was 4 years ago; I told my chef that the halibut was the best I'd ever had and he was up for the challenge again! I do not know the chef's/expos name BUT he was amazing. He hooked it up and my food was perfect. Thanks for the oysters, you expanded my horizons! Also, I am a huge foodie, so I loved that he talked food with me and the breakdown of the dishes. Also, nice Jack tattoo!!! : )
My bartender was on it, he immediately came over and had amazing suggestions for beer. The hosts were so friendly and were willing to scoot me in early if possible and gave me the seat I requested!!!
My server, Will P. was super attentive and very delightful. He was super helpful and friendly!! Every single staff person asked me if my food was okay and wanted to make sure I was taken care of; that spoke volumes, especially in a place so busy.
I will be back, hopefully sooner rather than later.

While on vacation with my daughter in San Francisco, we decided to try this place for dinner. I had the Pork Chop and my daughter the Country Fried Chicken. The food was delicious; nice atmosphere; and a very friendly staff. We highly recommend.
I loved this place! Yummy food, great drinks, comfortable, laidback and hip atmosphere.
5 star everything - the service, the atmosphere, the staff and the food - everything was wonderful. The cornbread was a steamy unexpected treat. The fried chicken had the most delicious taste of fresh herbs. And the cheeseburger totally hit the spot. We're visiting from Madison and are so glad we chose this spot for dinner. Thank you!!!
We made reservations for a party of 7, when we arived they were ready for us immediately. The atmosphere was very cool, the servers were fun and very professional and the food was top notch highly recommend it!
Well it wasn't my Mom's fried chicken, but oh so close. It should be know I have yet to find the perfect "Mom's" fried chicken. The black-eye pea fritters were delicious too--a must. Great beer selection and the most friendly & efficient waitstaff. A great place to go for a bit upscale southern food
Great hidden gem within the very busy streets of SF! Great food, atmosphere & service!
What a great find! The raw oysters were beautifully presented and very tasty with the dressings already on each individual oyster. The wonderful Summer Salad had two different kinds of watermelon arugula and cheese in a mint dressing. It was phenomenal. Of course the cornbread was fantastic as well. And I tried Kosch beer for the first time which was a light summer ale. The atmosphere was intimate, friendly, and trendy. Loved it.
The staff was super friendly! The owner was there and talking with the customers. Service was great and the food was amazing. Best corn bread and fried chicken in San Francisco for sure!
Ate here while on vacation at the recommendation of a friend who lives in SF. I liked that the food had all the comfort of Southern fare without feeling heavy and super bad for you. We ate family style to try a bunch of dishes. The two proteins of fried chicken and pork chop were hearty pieces of meat and tasty. Arugula salad really cut through the fried foods and was a good, clean pairing. I also enjoyed the whiskey drinks they made.
There for a private party. Everything was so fantastic. The staff are very kind, attentive and knowledgeable. And the food was phenomenal. OMG good. Such a great place. I'd go back for a regular meal. Full bar. Just plain old good. Loved it.
Came here at 6pm on a Thursday and was pretty full - was told we could get a table but needed to leave at 720 (which was fine)
Food was very good - they serve a corn bread with whipped honey butter and that was absolutely delicious. We also had the ribs, pork chop and ribs and again very impressed.
Only problem was service wasn't so great, not horrible just not that good either.
Still would recommend trying
Went there for dinner at 6pm, made a reservation earlier that day. We were seated promptly. It was very crowded at the bar, seems like happy hour crowd. Tables up the stairs were not full yet.
I had the same thing I got the only two times I've been here, the pork chop. I really enjoyed it. It was cooked perfectly. Also shared the corn bread, it is really good. By the time we finished all the tables were full and the bar maintained it's crowd. It's a fairly loud place so an intimate conversation will not be had.
We were seated next to a middle aged blonde woman who liked to drop f* bombs but it didn't take away from our experience.
Definitely recommend this place. The servers were very friendly and efficient.
This is a go-to place for us when we're in downtown SF. Great food and drinks. Love the corn bread. Great place to take visitors.
Loved it. Good atmosphere, busy and lively. Food is good and has good southern flavours. Had fried oysters and wings. Both really good, but the complementary corn bread brought it over the top. Would go back for sure.
Fast and friendly service, the food and drinks were delicious too. The complimentary cornbread was just the ticket to get the night started; not too heavy and not too sweet. The shrimp and grits were what I'd been looking forward to and the praline tart with dulche de leche sauce and ice cream was in perfect proportions.
There is something about restaurants on alleyways off the main beat that makes them even better...less crowded, better quality, not as overrun with tourists. Hops & Hominy is one of those places. Absolutely delicious, fresh ingredients. And their chipotle "hopsauce" (hot sauce) REALLY packs an awesome kick to go with their spicy chicken sandwich. It's even for sale! Totally recommended for a light lunch alone, or a quiet date night. Just DELICIOUS food!!
I give this restaurant four out of five stars for one reason. The food here at this restaurant is delicious! They offer a different menu every day I believe and it verys and everything is organic food. They have a full bar and a lot of open seating! It was very quick for me to be seated in this restaurant. The host that sat me down was a male very very cool and polite Man! But here is the reason I give it four out of five. My waitress, a heavier set lady with short red hair. Was as dumb as dirt. (Sorry not sorry) first off she was really rude. Rushed me when it came to ordering but then when I ordered an appetizer at first I ordered they’re cast iron Mac n cheese. But without bacon! And of course it came out fast and very hot! But since she was in such a rush it came out with bacon! I then waited for about 30 minutes trying to get her attention to take the food back and bring me what I ordered and she said that she couldn’t swap my order out. I have never experienced such horrible service at a restaurant like this ever in my life! Super unfortunate because the food and I’m sure other servers are professional but even the table next to me had a issue. So food wise five stars! The bar is pretty pricy but for the amount of food and type of food they offer it’s a steal! Price range appetizers (8-16$) entrees (17-36$) drinks are super expensive! One shot of cheap tequila was $22.00 but they give you free cornbread lol!
Been here many many times. Excellent service, great southern influenced comfort food with some healthier San Francisco posed options on the menu. Great cocktails, rotating beer selection with local drafts and often updated wine list. Fried chicken is the thing to get here, but today I went with a selection of appetizers. Super delicious soup of the day, ham croquettes and chicken wings. All very tasty!
Loved my experience here! Great drinks, great food, great staff. 100% recommend to a friend and I'll definitely be stopping by when I'm in town again.
In need of a good craft beer and burger, I headed to Hops & Hominy. It’s a bit quiet during the day, so there was a sedate but welcoming vibe. There’s some interesting craft beers on tap and a short food menu that had many tasty bites. I had the impossible burger and an IPA, so mission accomplished.
A fun place with a great range of food and drinks options. The staff are great and helpful in making selections. I highly recommend the fried chicken. If you want a great drink option, try the bacon infused Manhattan. Both are outstanding!
So, after the 555 California Christmas tree lighting i had dinner at Hops & Hominy. My reservation was for 8:30. I arrived a little early and sat down to wait because my table wasn't ready. A few minutes later I asked for a glass of water. They were grudgingly gracious but the norm, as far as my experience goes in SF, is to be offered a beverage while I wait. At this place I sure would have liked to be offered a beer. Maybe since I'm older (47) I don't look like their popular/standard demographic so that threw them off? Not sure. But read on. The saga continues. They weren't exactly put out about it but there was certainly an attitude, affected or otherwise, by the hostess with the short hair and adorable red boots and grey sweater dress. Anyway, in time I was seated but i waited quite some time to be greeted by a server. To be fair, my dining companion hadn't arrived but offering a drink before they get there is usually pretty standard, too. Anyway, someone finally showed and I asked to taste 4 of the beers they have on draught. I was told that he could sneak a couple of tastes my way but they weren't set up to offer additional tastes. I was surprised and disappointed but I chose the requisite 2 and complied albeit unhappily. One of the biggest reasons I chose H&H was to try the extensive and unique beer selection. Then the server did me a solid and brought the other 2 tastes. His tip reflected his graciousness. I ordered the Mac & cheese. It was forgettable at best. No real flavor save for the bacon on top. You can get better at Rex in Berkeley. Then I ordered the ham hock croquettes. Also forgettable. Dry and kind of tasteless. Then i ordered the black bean fritters. FANTASTIC! Texture was wonderful and the accompanying sauce was out of this world. I paired all of this with a gose first and then a very unique saison. Both wonderful beers chosen largely based on the tastes the server slyly slipped my way. You may be thinking, why 4 stars if it wasn't that great? Well, because while my experience could have been better I'm giving H&H the benefit of the doubt. Mine may have been a singular experience or maybe just a rough night for them. I'm going back again to find out!
I came here with two friends after work for a drink. We ended up getting a table and they brought the most delicious complimentary cornbread over. We decided to get wings and fried pickles with our beers. We sat in their outdoor seating area which was lovely, and we were not ignored by the waitstaff (as one might expect from a primarily indoor dining area with a few outdoor seats). The indoor area seemed nice and cozy, too. I'll come back!
Hard to find but worth trying! Main entrance next to the funky shoe store.
Had one of the best oyster po'boys in my life. Crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside. Came with fries but it's all about the sandwich.
Ah another restaurant I really like, albeit a bit pricey - like most SF restaurants. There's just way too many in San Francisco.
I love that there's a good happy hour selection. Great appies ranging from fried oysters, to hearty salads, and also delicious Mac and Cheese! It was so good - the oysters were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside but not squishy. The Mac and cheese was very cheesy with a breading on top.
My favorite cocktails are the Gin and Jam and Bees Knees. The mix was not overly sweet and overpowering. The Bees Knees drink came in an adorable bears glass, and also I could even taste a subtle roses from the rose they used as the garnish of mixed into the drink. There's also a beer, wine and dessert wines selection.
Would come back.
Chef is amazing. Creative and delicious menu. Great place for dinner with friends. A highlight of our visit to San Francisco.
