The food here is insanely good! Was recommended to Ebisu by someone who used to live in Inner Sunset. This is my first official sushi meal in San Francisco after eating the best in Los Angeles for over 13 years. I sat at the sushi bar, met the owners son Eric, and did not want to leave. I do not have an adventurous palette, but all the standard staples are done to perfection here: ebi, albacore and salmon sushi, gyoza, but the real winner was the black cod appetizer. This rivals Nobu’s famous black cod. Do not miss this. I can’t imagine finishing better sushi in SF!
The sushi was so fresh! Artistically and visually beautiful. I’ve been grubbing on sushi since childhood. By far the best I’ve had! You can quote me on this one. Please believe it!
Mind-numbingly fantastic sushi. I’ve never had better. Atmosphere is warm and authentic, I highly recommend it!
Very nice traditional Japanese restaurant. The lunch bento boxes are a great value. Generous portions, very fresh food.
For me it was enough for two meals, I split it in half and took some home for dinner!
This place is fantastic---it's a given that we wait in order of arrival for a table because we know the food and service will be great! Absolutely top quality delicious sushi and Japanese accompaniments.
I used to eat here at least 3 times a week when I work in SF. Hadnt been here in almost 20yrs definitely did not disappoint. I’ll be back.
Great place to have some sushi and much more!!!! We were in town for one day and decided to check it out - it was amazing! Friendly stuff, cozy restaurant, great prices, amazing food! We will definitely come back there whenever we are back in SF!
The best sushi, but really the best seafood salad! Get it as a starter, and have fun. Well worth the price!
Just the best. Always fresh and delictable specials. + the $20 bento box combos are jam packed with tasty value! Usually a wait, but well worth it. 👍🏽
We had a fantastic dinning experience at Ebisu. We sat back and let chef Eric feed us with wonderful and fresh sushi. Ebisu has a great atmosphere, the staff are attentive and friendly, the patrons are regulars because the food is amazing.
I've been coming to Ebisu for 32 years now, and I'm glad to say that it's still going as strong as ever. Steve is the best and the sashimi is always top notch!! My favorite sushi bar by far, bar none!
Fantastic! Everyone was really nice and despite a long wait (well worth it), every single thing we got was delicious and came out quickly.
Such a great, traditional place...go and relax and take your time and please order the Sand Dab!!
Best in San Francisco. Steve has owned it for must be 35 years now.
Lunchtime is the best time to go, lines are not long. Best Albacore Torro I have ever had!
Go large it's worth it.
Best sushi and service in SF. Steve and crew are awesome!!!!

This place was honestly the best I have tasted in a very long time! I used to have a favorite restaurant in downtown San Jose but they closed unfortunately, so I had been in search of an authentic Sushi/Japanese place to eat and enjoy. So when my sweetheart and I looked online for a nice quaint, delicious and uplifting place Ebisu showed up! As a first timer I am impressed and will be coming back! If your looking for yummy delicacies please give Ebisu a shot! You will not regret your visit!
The best in the world. Thank you Steve , and Suzuki-San!!!
Simply great sushi and sake. Sit at the sushi bar if possible.
To this date, I reminisce about their sushi! My friend and I visited during our short trip to SF and it was perfectly delicious! We even joked about moving to SF just for Ebisu!

My favorite place! Evryone super friendly and food is great!
ALWAYS DELICIOUS!!!! Ebisu has the best sushi and Japanese food and is still family owned for over 30 years!
The best! Always has been since Steve opened it in 1982.
SO AMAZING! People behind the sushi bar were absolute goblins... Can't wait to try it again
It is impossible to describe how incredibly marvelous this sushi restaurant is! It is a combination of performance art and indescribably tasty morsels of food. I've never been to any other sushi establishment even remotely close to the level of Ebisu! I would give it six stars if I could.
Dinner at Ebisu is seems dinner at homes everybody feel such family .
Most creative food by the talented Chef's....friendly...relaxed...we will be back!!!
Fantastic Japanese food, the best in San Francisco. A "must stop" every time we're in the mood for Sushi!!
There are other places where the fish is as good, there are places where the chefs are as creative (partly because many chefs move on from Ebisu), there are places where the sushi bar culture is similar. I've never found a place in SF that puts all three of those together as well.
Sit at the bar and throw yourselves upon your chef's mercy (just tell him what you don't like!) Don't be shy about checking out your neighbor's food. And if you are lucky, one of the regulars will be there to help.
Small restaurant with great sushi. This place is always packed.
Best sushi I've had in a while, and has one of the most beautiful interiors I have ever seen. Ordered the Dragon Roll, Rainbow Roll, Crunchy Roll, and Garlic Lemon Edamame, and they were all incredibly delicious and were priced right for their quality. The delicious food paired with its fabulous interior and efficient service will be bringing me back again very soon.
If place can be perfect, this is it!
Perfect vibe, absolutely delicious Sushi and very welcoming/professional sushi masters and staff. Would recommend everyone, wishing to spend cozy, delicious, Japanese evening !
Very good restaurant but not many seats. Even if we arrived at 5.15 pm on a Friday night, we had to sit for an hour.
But food is excellent… a very good choice and prices remains reasonable compared to other Japanese restaurants in San Francisco.
Probably the best japanese you’ll gonna have in San Francisco! Perfect vegetables, perfect chichen teriyaki, amazing salmon…
5 stars!!!
Long line to get in during dinner time.
Food is great. Especially like the Omakase. $45 for 18 pieces (6 different kinds, 3 pieces for each). But each piece is very small and thin. Given the price of $45, it is still good. You can try different fishes in one order.
Lobster dynamite is something I do not see in other Japanese restaurants. Worth to try. But I think the lobster was overcooked.
The best rolls of my life. This place is over 40 years old, unbelievable!
I recommend it to anyone who wants to try really authentic Japanese cuisine.
My first time eating sushi at a restaurant - Great sushi at a great price. The sushi chef was very skilled and made us some delicious food. The Spider sushi looks great, tastes great as well. Gyoza was great as well! I think it’s hard to go wrong with anything on the menu. Don’t forget to order some hot sake!
Fantastic sushi. Went close to opening on a weeknight and didn’t have to wait.
Chirashi was beautiful and delicious. Took more than a few minutes to come out and saw other tables getting food before us but server was very attentive once they noticed we had no food in front of us. Place is cozy/small but we beat the lunch rush by a few minutes and they were super sweet about squishing our stroller into a corner. Wouldn't go with squirmy toddlers but great day date spot with our baby.
Second time coming here. The staff are so nice and very attentive! You can tell they have all been working together for quite some time with their friendly banter.
Regarding the food, it is so affordable for the amount of food you get. It's $25 for a 15 piece sashimi platter. The grilled hamachi collar was a standout. Will continue to come whenever I'm in SF!
Right by park at 9th and Lincoln..had their Lentil soup ....mmmmmm
Long time patron, have sat with most chefs at bar, miss Suzuki and hope Stephen is well.
Had some great sashimi, sushi, rolls, specials and sake here over last 15 years. Arigatou gozaimasu
Get there at open if u can, busy and quaint waited 2 hours before, attentive staff and service was always good.
Good Foods and good services. Only 1 thing to complain about it is the table is too small for 2 people because we ordered too many dishes. Haha 😆
What an amazing meal!! A couple of weeks ago I had the best omakase dining experience of my life at Ebisu and I have eaten at restaurants all over the world. Thank you Eric and the entire team! Go there and tell Eric what you're interested in and savor the moments. Unbelievable! As you can see from my bill, it was so wonderful I went crazy eating... hahaha
I have one wish - and it is that nothing ever changes!
Incredible all around!! The bincho nigiri proves that complexity and simplicity can co-exist, some of the best pieces of sushi I have ever had. The chicken katsu was absolutely perfect in every way. Service was attentive and they took such good care of my friend who is not used to Japanese cuisine. Highly recommend and hope to go back soon.
One of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve ever been to. Katsudon and sushi were all exquisite. Very attentive service.
My family have been patrons of Ebisu for more than 35 years. Never - never - been disappointed in any way. Well maybe the wait time on some occasions!😉
