Good beer and food
We stopped in for lunch and enjoyed it. Multiple beer options and all of them were great. I got the fried chicken sandwich and it was great. Will stop in again next time we are in town.
Always improving their craft!
I love Brunches at Magnolia! Weather you like amazing deviled eggs, or chiliques, or biscuit and gravy they never disappoint. They just started serving homemade cinnamon rolls!! yummy
Oasis in greasy food corridor
After our pilgrimage to Haight-Ashbury, there seemed nowhere decent to eat. Then we spotted this pub. Friendly staff, varied menu, and a excellent beer selection makes this the place to have lunch.
The beers are above average, but I won't recommend the beer unless you are there for the food, I had the Special fried chicken, it was good. but not fantastic. But the whole experience was good

Magnolia Gastropub & Brewery 1398 Haight St., (415) 864.7468. L-D daily, Sat-SunBr. Named with nods to both the Grateful Dead song “Sugar Magnolia” and to the 24-hour erotic bakery called Magnolia Thunderpussy (after the burlesque queen owner of the same name) that was in this space in the 1960s, this brewpub produces good vibes and an ever-changing line-up of artisan ales (the brewing takes place in the basement). More Magnolia pub history.
Had lunch here! "Look at this salad! ...It's money" My husband liked his selection and the beers were really tasty also. My Caesar salad was great!
Tasty food. Staying around the corner in Haight Ashbury. Highly recommend the Reuben wrapped in cheese and dipped into a this onion soup broth; others enjoyed the porter and fish and chips. Tasty--
I had a coffee and juice here with my friends and it was delicious. Hard to find good coffee in the USA.
My friends felt they waited a little too long for their cake and meals but they said the food was delicious.
The food is great! Awesome people, cool vibe. Great place to eat
Hoppy. I was told by my brother to try Magnolia when I visited the Haight Ashbury area during my SF trip. I decided to walk there from Union Square which was a fun adventure to say the least. Waiting for me were several, delicious Drake IPAs. I didn't try the food but the bar was a great experience. I would have returned if I didn't have to walk 4 miles to get there.
Very cheery brew house! Local favorite/off the grid! Great beers and European/American style foods! Yum! 9 out of 10 for me!
Amazing beer and surprisingly delightful food.
Great beers, good food and attractive, friendly bartenders. What else could you ask for?
A different high in the Haight. You shouldn't need a review to try Magnolia, mate! This is one of the few brew pubs where the food is better than the beer, and Magnolia makes some great suds, which means the eats are exceptional. I won't bore you with a list of the great things we've eaten there over the years, because it changes and I can't recall a single bad one. It might have been because we always had the munchies when we stumbled in there (heh-heh) but it's all good.
Added bonus -- I'm not suggesting that you get in an altered state of mind when you go there (it IS in the heart of Haight-Ashbury, though) but if you do, the mural around the edge of the ceiling will trip you out if you stare at it long enough. While you sip your beer and wait for your food, you'll get off trying to spot allusions to famous rock songs in the images painted there.
Only drawbacks are that it's often crowded -- as you'd expect from a good eatery in a populous part of town -- and parking is hard to come by. It's San Francisco, though, so you expect that. Magnolia is worth the hassle, dudes.
The food was excellent. Though the boudin is not true boudin from Louisiana, of course. However, it's savory dirty rice was pretty dang close. Don't mistake that to mean that the boudin was not good. Stuffed with bay scallops, it was delicious!
Fried pig's ears are not to be missed! Excellent Bitters and Belgian brews. Great service.
Great food; great service; dark wood: cosy booths; great sound system. Here for brunch on Sunday and very happy. Heartily recommend
Homemade sausages - several kinds. Paired satisfyingly with a choice of interesting sides. Order them, eat them, love them.
Amazing beer and great food. We stopped by Magnolia on the way up to Sonoma after a long week at MacWorld. Located just a block off Haight-Ashbury you can tell it's quite the local spot when you first enter. Like most shops in the area the walls are painted with interesting themes. Seating is good and the booths are made out of wood (hope you don't have a bad back because the backs are 90º straight up). The food menu offered a good number of options including vegetarian (imagine that in a place like this) options. Our food was great. Beer selection was great too. Lots of variety with a couple aged on tap too. The brewer was nice enough to give me a tour while the boil was going on. Would have loved to stay longer and had everything they had to offer but Wine Country (and the Bead Republic
Bacon $5. A plate of smokey, thick-cut, maple-like, chewy-crunchy PIG.
I visited Magnolia Brewing Company a hell of a long time ago. It was probably one of my first 25 brewpubs. But much of the experience still sticks out in my memories. I remember really cool murals and fantastically interesting decorations. I remember a good number of beers being on tap, all of a moderately high quality. And I remember really good french fries. Past that, however, we’ll have to go back to the original review. Original Review Easily the most unique location I have yet to visit. Located on a busy and historical street on the outskirts of downtown San Francisco, the restaurant is small and quirky which gives it a “Cheers” feeling. It seems to me the pinnacle of what a local brewpub should be. The walls are hand-painted with colorful, vibrant and just plain weird pictures. You’ll have to ch
Magnolia Gastro Pub and Brewery seamed like it would be a good fit for my taste. This place was fairly packed and I was lucky to get a seat at the bar. I ordered myself their custom brewed Cole Porter and some fish and chips, my heart sank when the people next to me had a tray of sample sized beers delivered to them. This is what I should have ordered, but at this point I had miles more to walk so I had to restrain myself from ordering this in addition to the porter I already had. The porter was more on the bitter side, but went well with the fish and chips which I'd smothered with malt vinegar.
This marks a first for The Cured Ham. I'm reviewing a restaurant that started following me on Twitter. Thanks for the follow. In the interests of full disclosure, I have not spoken, emailed, or received special treatment or otherwise from Magnolia. Just y

Day two of the Foodbuzz Blogger Festival proved to be just as memorable as the first. If you missed the first two posts about the trip to San Francisco click on these for Post I and Post II . Saturday began with a very unique way to break the fast... a sa
"I'm coming to San Francisco and want you to tell me where to eat," I wrote to my friend Jon, The Gourmet Pig . "What's your top three for not too fancy but solid eats" Jon went above and beyond my request and prepared a list of over ten top-notch places
The service was great here! Very friendly and knowledgeable. The food was good.. Would definitely go there again.
Great spot for food and beer in Haight Ashbury. Their beer flights are well priced and allow you to try 4 different beers from the menu, and the fried chicken sandwich was one of THE BEST I’ve ever had!!
While walking around Haight Ashbury we found this place for lunch. They brew their own beers and have nice American fare on the menu. The burger was moist and tasty. The steak was tender and very flavorful though they forgot my chimichurri sauce. Both entrees were a good portion so we didn't have any space for dessert.
Terrific atmosphere and the service is too notch. If you are looking for a great place to grab a brew and a snack before shipping in the Haight look no further!!
The vibe and music is eclectic and family friendly.
Loved the hamburger and Tacos, but the beers are just great!
We really loved every beer we tried (we each had a different flight so tried most of their range). The bar staff were really friendly and helpful too. Loved the Monterey aquarium live feed on the TV instead of sport too!
One of our favorite SF brewery/gastropub. The food here is amazing and goes so well with their very tasty bear. We are definitely coming back here to try more of their food.
Very busy today. Beer was perfect. O had the Joan of Dark. Along with a pita, veggie, & hummus plate with a side of the most delicious roasted brussels sprouts! Team working were amazing
I arrived at around 11:10am to the lovely smell of beer brewing. Sat outside in the shade. Where there were a couple tables set up. Was quickly greeted with a smile, menus, and water. Food and beer was delicious. Service was perfect. Would and probably will gladly return!!!!

We had just our best beers in the US!
My fave: Janis Joplin
This place is very close to my place and I always saw a wait there, so I decided to check it out. This time thankfully there wasn't any wait and we were able to get a table right away. 1st impression- this place is LOUD but Its a brewery so i think its okay (?). I tried fivery time pale ale and winter warmer and both the beer's were excellent and I really want to try more beers from here. The beer menu is dominated by IPAs but I thinks that's what's expected from a bay area bar(?).
Food was average. My burger was cooked perfectly but was under seasoned. The duck was definitely over cooked in the duck pasta. The fries were okay and the deviled eggs were great! The vanilla creme was good too.
Our server was friendly and we were happy with our overall experience. Will definitely return for the beer and maybe fried chicken Thursday.
Staffs were friendly, beers were good. I didn’t give it a 5 star because the food was not very impressive. After all, a nice place to hang out with friends and take some drinks.
Absolutely mind blowing! In house brewed beers whoch are amazing!. King Salmon is delicious! Rare wines. Cool scene and vibrant atmosphere. Service is awesome! Love love love!!!
Very boisterous, unpretentious neighbourhood brewpub. Small bistro tables, intimate booths, and a high communal table. Creative menu of local sustainable food, deliciously executed and served. Daily soup- I had a tomato bisque with drizzled pesto that was sublime. A handful of vegetarian choices. Wine list is mostly California with some excellent varietals and vintages at reasonable prices. The fresh beer is vibrant ant the menu descriptions spot on.
The ‘dish towel’ napkins are good quality, as is the flatware. Portions are healthy and a good value. If you want ground pepper, ask for it...
Tables near the entry can be drafty in the evening. A wonderful place to stop in for a new flavour at the bar on the way home from work. Ear plugs recommended for noise sensitive.
Solid gastropub in the old hippie district of San Francisco. Nice selection of local beer. Menu somewhat limited but of high quality. Get a parking fairy!
Over the top customer friendly. Ice cold delicious beer. The music was classic R&B, which makes you feel right at home. Matt is delightful ✌🏽a must see in Haight- Ashbury.
Gotta visit if you’re in the neighbourhood! Great views and good beer. We loved sitting outside to watch the people on a Saturday morning. 10/10 would return
Solid brewery on Haight. Haven't tried the food but the hazy IPA was good, worth checking out. Seems to have a restaurant vibe/family friendly more so than a proper brewery
