Best Japanese/sushi I’ve had in the city. Sat at the bar and Tim was fantastic. Cocktails were smooth, Toro Cakes we’re delicious alongside the other food we got. Service was on point and food was fresh and so tasty. Would absolutely go back, great experience.
Was excited to try this new spot on Chestnut, but clearly I wasn’t the only one — the place was packed. The service was not the best (didn’t really clarify some aspects of their menu(s)) but I feel this is just part of being a new and busy restaurant. Food was great! Have had few other opportunities to eat such delicious nigiri — it melts in your mouth. Overall, I highly recommend!
The toro was amazing! Highly recommend the tasting menu. Their cocktail selection is surprisingly well paired with the sushi. The bar tenders will whip up something special if you tell them the flavors you like.
The place was packed when we went there. Definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time. We ordered 7 items (including 2 drinks) -
1. Dojo house rolls
2. Wiki wiki house rolls
3. Midori house rolls
4. Unagi sashimi
5. Edomae
6. Mukashi cocktail
The edomae was an 8 piece nigiri platter. The fish was fresh and tender yet slightly firm. It melted in the mouth with each bite. The rice was soft and subtle, providing a pleasant contrast to the fish's texture. Some nigiri had more wasabi than the other, so that was a bit off-putting as I am not a big fan of Wasabi. The hand rolls were pretty big and filling. Wiki wiki and midori were our favorites. The place is usually very loud.
An absolute GEM on Chestnut Street! Fantastic cocktails, sublime sushi and soups, and excellent service at the bar. The atmosphere is upscale casual. I don’t even know what else to say. Go here and find out for yourself: this place is amazing. 10/10
It’s been added to our favorites list! We love you Mamanoko!
One of the best meals I’ve had living in SF. The bartender was engaging and gave great recommendations on food. The sushi was fresh and so delicious. Will be going back for sure!
The service was pretty good considering we had a large party. The sliders were SO good you have to try!! The rolls were good but nothing special. It is a great location to hop locations before/after your meal since it’s right in marina district
The restaurant's atmosphere was cozy and the service incredible! The umami sliders were delicious as was my nigiri (kamasu, chu toro, a third I forget). The citrus & wiki wiki rolls were likewise amazing; however, the kinobi left a little to be desired. All-in-all, this restaurant is well worth the visit.
Best sushi I’ve had in years. So fresh, so flavorful. Don’t skip the salmon and toro nigiri. The Kinobi roll was INSANE and the toro cakes. Also the mukashi cocktail was incredible our table ordered about 12 of them. Don’t sleep on this place, it’s a must visit for us in SF.
Japanese restaurants are typically not the most innovative in their traditional culinary art. But Mamanoko is truly one of a kind in that it's a bold fusion of Japanese and Mexican. Here, you can get all the traditional stuff you want, and they make excellent sushi and sashimi. But if you are an experimental eater, you get to taste what make this restaurant unique. The dining experience you get from their modern fusion creations is beyond amazing. Everything from flavor to presentation is not what you'd expect from a Japanese sushi restaurant. Their service is excellent with attentive staff that actually has a good sense of humor in a classy and chic venue. Trust me, you won't be disappointed here. We are definitely coming back again.
I live in the Marina and there are a zillion places to go. I don't go out that often but most of the time it's here if they have space. The food is amazing and so are Justin, Tim, and Omar at the bar. It's a really friendly place and a great place to meet folks. Am grateful to have Mamanoko as my favorite neighborhood restaurant and bar.
The food was delicious! Came here for a birthday. Drinks were creative and tasty. Highly recommend trying the chicken karage, umami sliders, waki waki, any of nigiri, and the cookie dough dessert roll!
I went here on valentine's day and sat at the bar. The bartender, Jack, was great.
The cocktails were great. Def grab one during dinner. For food, I'd recommend the nigiri, the eggplant nasu, the toro cakes and the brownie dessert roll.
Amazing, generous slices of fish, everything was fresh and the sushi was really good. Our waiter was super nice and gave us a cookie dough roll for us to try for the first time. The Toro Cakes were a personal favorite and the rice cakes were crispy and complimented the raw topping very well!
Pure deliciousness! Fresh fish that will literally melt in your mouth. Very welcoming staff, Tim at the bar is great at attending bar guests! Will repeat 😍
Nice Japanese food! Vibe and service were good. Karage chicken must try, shrimp tempura was yummy, but fish sliders were not flavorful... Overall, nice place to try some japanese food!
Delicious dining experience. They were super helpful in suggestions with my food allergy, and the service was amazing. Their dessert sushi, the brownie batter, was unbelievable! They were able to do any roll for me as a handroll and skipped the rice. Goyza and salad were out of this world. Cannot wait to visit the city again, this will be a repeat stop!
