We went there for lunch. We ordered the mutton biriyani, beef seekh kabob, chicken tandoori kabob and butter naan. All the food were ready in 15-20 minutes. You have to bring your food from the counter to your table by yourself. The foods were perfectly made. The kabobs and the mutton in the biriyani - both were juicy and fresh. We enjoyed the food. Afterwards, we ordered mango lassi and that was also delicious. We are definitely going to visit there again.
We used to go to their 16th St. location a lot back in the 2000's. I still like that location better because it feels familiar and the clientele on a Saturday evening. The seating here is spread out and less intimate. I had the chicken tikka masala curry $11, samosa $4, garlic nan $2.50, tandoori chicken leg $5, basmati rice $2.49. Good job by the chef on making my food delicious. I asked the cashier to make my food not that spicy and it was spot on. I still love how they put lime and raw onions on the bottom of the chicken leg dish. That first taste of the nan and curry is like seeing an old friend again.
We ordered Nihari and it was really good. They should make it a bit more spicy, though. The gravy of Nihari was so good that we asked for more and they gladly obliged. Chicken Tikka Wrap was really good with all its fillings and sauce. Naan was so soft that we ordered more. Mango Lassi was one of the best we have had. Overall very good experience.
Oh and yes, their green chutney was amazing; spicy and tasty!
I have been going to Pakwan restaurant since long (when they had only one in O'FARRELL st San Francisco). Was not aware of the Ocean Street branch and found it on Google search when I was visiting Fort Funston last month. Stopped by to pick goat biryani and beef Nihari. It was really good and biryani definitely beats the taste of biryani i have tried in their other branches. Nihari was good as usual. I do had non-par experiences at other Pakwan but this one was the best restaurant biryani I had in a long time. I am planning to test that again tomorrow to see if I was lucky just one time.
Update: Tried Goat Biryani again yesterday and it was great again. A bit less than last time though...they used a little more lemon than needed. I also had chicken kaRahi which was served in a "kaRahi" which make serving size quite good and it was delicious as well. I was tempted to go 16th Pakwan because I was passing by, but opted to drive 4 miles further just based on the prior experience....didn't regret it.
I've been coming and ordering from this place for about two years and it became one of my favorite places. Food is so flavorful that if i could give the place 100 stars I would because food is 100/100 lol. I always get lamb biryani, Chicken tikamasala and naan, and for the drink mango lassi. The portions are pretty big so you can share and the prices are fare. They also offer some vegetarian options for those who can eat meat. They just opened for indoor dining so i would recommend everyone to come and try this delicious food.
So good! Been coming to Pakwan in other locations for years and glad to see the nearer location. Food tastes exactly like the mission one! Great work. Love Pakwan!
Probably the best valued Pakistani food in the Bay. The serving sizes are huuuuge and the biryani is spot on! Definitely one of my most frequently visited restaurants!
I enjoy coming here when I am in the area, the portions are large and the food is flavorful and I appreciate that they do have few vegan options.
I ordered the vegan vegetable biryani rice and it was incredible - it had all different vegetables, potatoes and caramelized onions, it was very oily tho, too oily. Vegan chana masala is substantially smaller in size but it is very flavorful, delicious.
The only aspect of this place that I question is the cleanliness of the establishment. The dishes are stacked up on the side and you help yourself with everything including water and you bus your own table. The dishes sometimes can be dirty and the kitchen also does not spark joy for me when I look at it particularly my last visit, there was this very dirty bucket on the counter that I am not sure what it was used for but next to it were open small containers with to go side sauces.
