When craving a rich and spicy soup with deep layers of flavor, you can't go wrong ordering Bun Bo Hue.
Came to the restaurant on a weekday afternoon with barely anyone in the restaurant. I've been here on the weekends and it is hard to find parking spaces in this tiny plaza with several restaurants next to each other. I would recommend carpooling if you decide to go on the weekends. There are a few vehicle break-ins in the area so make sure to empty out your vehicle.
Food: Ordered Bun Bo Hue (Spicy noodle soup topped with beef, pork, and congealed pork blood) and Banh Bot Loc (clear chewy rectangle shaped dumplings stuffed with pork and shrimp). Noodles came with a side of shredded cabbage, bean sprouts, lemon, and herbs. The broth was on a clear side and tasted a bit under flavor to my liking. But the moment I added the Chili they have provided, I was in spicy heaven! The bowl came generously with two large slices of pork, two cubes of congealed pork blood (or duck), a few pieces of beef tendon, and about 6 pieces of beef. I was very happy with the amount of meat that was given.
The thin round noodles do take a bit of effort when using chopsticks. They are slippery and easily fall through the crack, making a splashing scene with your spicy broth. I'd say, don't wear a light color shirt unless you want your clothes to look like an abstract splatter paint art. 😶 Pro tips is to use a spoon and chopsticks at the same time!
Banh Bot Loc, aka, clear chewy dumplings, is fairly straightforward as it tasted like the spicy fish sauce it came with. The consistency is super chewy (tapioca) and fun to eat!
Overall, An Nam satisfied my spicy noodle broth craving on a cold cloudy day. I probably would sit inside the restaurant next time as there is some kind of construction going on and dust was flying all over the place. I was getting bonus sands in my water cup and soup for free
Item #1 on the menu is a must try. Very tasty, full of meat stuffs in addition to the thick and round rice noodles. Not the typical type of pho but only tastes better! Spicy level cannot be adjusted, but it’s totally within my tolerance and I believe within most people’s tolerance. Their lemonade is good as well. Plenty of space in house and many people eating there. No outside seating, but you can order take outs (they do charge 50 cents for each takeout container though). I later found out it can also be ordered on doordash from one of the other branch stores, if you’d like to avoid eating in public.
we came looking for bun bo hue an nam 2. however it has closed and become part of nam giao. another pair of diners were similarly confused when we got here.
overall, the food is not bad. i got the mi quang which i liked (though i haven’t had it before). service was nice and there’s ample parking.
Best bun bo Hue in San Jose with spicy and flavorful broth.
Good meals. Perfectly sized portions!
Highly Recommend! Best Bun Bo Hue, hands down. If you want great quality spicy delicious noodle soup. Come check this place out! Great customer service and very attentive! Very happy with my experience.
The food is authentic and really tasty. We had Bun Bo Hue and Pho. Both are much better than most other places. The freshly squeezed suger cane juice is so refreshing. The atmosphere is quite nice. It was a surprise discover. We will definitely come back over and over again if things don't change.
Very nice hidden jewel of Silicon Valley variety flavorful dishes, exotic beverages, refreshing and aromatic. I most appreciate the beautiful warm friendly quiet atmosphere and option of either indoor/ garden dining or To go options.
They originally messed up our order as they didn't speak English that well, but they made every attempt to correct it. They were very nice as well, unlike other Pho places I have been to. Food was excellent - I will definitely come here again.
Ate here twice for lunch and once for breakfast while working on a marketing project in the local area for Vietnamese New Years Festival. The Owner and people were gracious and great to our group. The food is delirious "hens the 3 times". Next time in San Jose,Bun Bo Hue is a must stop.
The one on Story Road was closed so decided to come here instead. Their soup is more on the spicier and saltier than what I prefer.
Their $10.50 (their small bowl is $9.50) for their Bun Bo Hue was huge and they don't short change you on the condiments either.
Oh and it's cash only... the only saving grace is they do have an ATM machine that collects a $2.50 for using it..
As I remember, there are really only 2 things served here. 1 is Bun Bo Hue, 2 is Pho. Most people, including me, come here for their Bun Bo Hue. Pho is for the people who tag along and can't take the exotic ingredients and/or the pungent flavor in the former.
But the Bun Bo Hue is some of the best in the South Bay.
It was a pleasurable experience. The personel were courteous, informative and the owner stopped by the table to ask if everything was OK.
The food was delicious.
The foods here are awesome. My favorite is Combination Steam broken rice. Very tasty and big portions.
