It was my first time having Burmese Cuisine and I really enjoyed everything that I tried! The tea leaf salad was really special (just be aware that it does contain peanuts)! I can definitely recommend the Burmese Chicken Curry bento as well. The curry was mildly spicy. The portions were quite large and the prices super reasonable...and the taste was top notch! The flavors reminded me a little of both Thai Cuisine and Indian Cuisine but the food was definitely unique and its own thing.
Only have had Burmese food a few times. The original salad was good, refreshing, light. The fried chicken also a bit above average, heavy on the vinaigrette, crispy, not too dry. The coconut noodles, unfortunately, was not to my liking, somewhat blend.
This is probably my favorite Burmese restaurant in the Bay Area coming from a Burmese person who grew up in Myanmar. The Shan noodles were delicious despite being vegetarian! My partner really enjoyed his coconut noodles too. The dessert option was also just like from home. My go to place :) just wish they had outdoor dining options. The price was also great. I would take this place over any of the fancier Burmese restaurants with subpar flavors
Can't wait to go back next time we are craving Burmese. Closest thing we have found (in the area) to a Burmese friend cooking for you.
No funky warmed over meat or fishy odors here! Food was well fried at the correct temperature (we are always chagrined at how many restaurants cannot get fried food right, Kyusu gets it right!), no unpleasant oil smells either.
Aroma chicken dish was fried well with no unrendered fat hiding under the crunchy batter. Chicken did not have any chickeny gamey odors or stringy texture that plague so many asian restaurants. Sauce was a light, subtle, slightly salty sauce, not sugary, nor thick with cornstarch.
Spicy fish was fresh tilapia fried well, no fishy odors, firm texture! Shredded cabbage was sweet and fresh, well shredded (no large bitter chunks here) and went well with the fried tilapia.
Shan noodle no soup was well done with curried chicken once again done well. Complimentary soup was interesting, reminiscent of chicken bouillon, heavy on the salt and pepper, with cabbage, glass noodles, and green onion.
Every dish came with a hefty sprinkle of chopped cilantro, which we love. What we didn't love was that there were lots of yellow blackened leaves mixed in with the green. We hope the kitchen prep was having a bad day (we know how tiresome sorting through less than stellar piles of cilantro can be) and that it doesn't happen again because we really like the food here.
We ordered both the chicken and fish medium spicy, and it was delicious and a 'full of spices' savory flavor, with a hint of spiciness. We may order more spicy next time.
Service is great, tables clean, restaurant doesn't have funky odors, and water tastes great too.
Delicious Burmese food, you should give it a try and dip into new flavors. They have well priced bento boxes, try the one with yellow pea curry, it comes with the Excellent tea salad (a must have). We also had the noodles with chicken, and very good. For lunch they also had a free cup of soup.
The service is very attentive, and the food is served quickly. We will be back.
an amazing but inconspicuous restaurant to delve into burmese cuisine! came for lunch with two friends and service was fast, attentive, and helpful when we had questions about what to order. as someone with a pitifully low spice tolerance sometimes i err away from cuisines like this but to my delight the food was flavorful and it please my spice loving friends too. overall win win and will definitely be back for their tea leaf salad and chicken curry.
Dining at Kyusu was my first foray into Burmese cuisine, and I have to say I'm definitely a fan! I've had my fair share of southeast Asian cuisine, and I can safely ay that nothing really compares to Burmese food - the dishes here are so unique that they're in a league of its own.
They have a pretty sizeable menu with a wide variety of offerings including noodle dishes and curries. Their bento boxes come very highly recommended so I went with their Burmese chicken curry bento. The bento comes with a side of either their famous tea leaf salad or vegetable spring rolls. I personally went with the tea leaf salad, but also ordered a side of vegetable spring rolls to try.
The tea leaf salad came first. Initially I found the dish to be a bit sour to my taste, but after taking a few more bites I grew to enjoy the astringent savory flavor. The vegetable spring rolls were crisp and flavorful, nothing particularly standout about them, but they were well-made nonetheless.
Now for the main course - the Burmese chicken curry bento. Of note, this dish (fortunately for me) was non-spicy. I cannot say enough good things about this chicken curry. The chicken was cooked to perfection, soft and tender, and practically melting in your mouth. The potatoes were equally as flavorful (and if I had any complaint I just wish the dish came with more potato pieces - they were THAT good). The curry is unlike any other curry I've had before, each bite was an experience as the savory flavors of ginger, cumin, garlic, and online danced across my taste buds. Needless to say I finished this dish in record time and honestly found myself wanting more.
I'll definitely be returning here again soon. If you're looking for Burmese food or just want something new to try I highly recommend this restaurant!
9/29 — Today is their last day of business 😢 Owner is retiring. Thank you, Kyusu, for the amazing food and service over the years. This was my favorite Burmese restaurant ❤️

Get a group and order lots of dishes to share so you can try all the yummy food.
This is my first time trying Burmese food. tea salad was fresh and refreshing. The other two items are okay.
Good thing about this place is they have a limited menu but everything on it tastes extremely good. We ordered 3 different dishes and all of them were super delicious. The ambience is also really nice which makes it a very different place from regular south bay restaurants. Highly recommended. Do try the Burmese hot tea!
My roommate introduced me to this gem of a place and wonderful cuisine. They provide very friendly and quick service along with some really tasty food. You also get treated to an authentic soup as a complimentary dish. Tea leaf salad is their main specialty and a flavor bomb while the spicy noodles in soup options don’t disappoint either.
The taste of some of the dishes served here is surprisingly similar to some of the homemade delicacies I grew up with in West Bengal, an Indian state over 700 miles west of central Myanmar. I guess flavor is a universal language. Apart from the food, the staff here is very friendly and the ambience is decent. This is the only Burmese restaurant I have been to and so I can't comment on authenticity. For me, their dishes such as chicken curry and fried chickpeas balls are a taste of home.
Only the second time I've ever had Burmese food. Not easy to get them where I'm from so def wanted to try this place. Food was delicious, service was good. Placed got really packed quick so it's a popular place. Would come again to try other items on the menu
One of my favourite restaurants in the area. Food is always so good, even takeout. Their tea leaf salad original is so flavourful and has so many different textures and is the best tea leaf salad you can find here. It’s a must get. The aroma chicken is another beautiful dish full of flavour. Each dish you order here has a distinct taste (some places you try one dish you’ve tried them all) here though, you just have to try each dish and you’ll see how wonderful and delicious their food is. Thank you for always making our bellies happy!
Nice Burmese restaurant that is a little hidden gem. Food was BOMB!! Very friendly staff and they play straight up Burmese music. I love it. Definitely coming back for more.
Friendly service. Tasty dishes. Tea leave salad is very good. Must try.
The food was pretty good, friendly server, however the wait time was long even though the place was fairly empty.
Highly recommend their tea leaves salad. Khow suey and goat stew was good too
