My visit to the Mermaid Bar and Grill in Saugatuck, MI, was a memorable experience. The location itself is fantastic, with a beautiful marina, boardwalk, and a stunning sunset view that adds to the charm of the place.
However, I was a bit disappointed with the limited fish options on the menu, and my initial choice of halibut was unavailable. This happened again with my second choice. However, the server recommended the fresh cod fish, which I usually don't prefer, but it turned out to be exceptionally fresh and delicious.
What truly impressed me was the server's friendly attitude, explaining that they prioritize serving only fresh fish, even if it means running out of certain options. I wholeheartedly agree with this approach.
To start, we had the Calamari, which was cooked to perfection, and the drinks, while enjoyable, were on the pricier side. However, the dessert, the pumpkin cheesecake, was a delightful way to end the meal. Overall, the Mermaid Bar and Grill offers a great atmosphere, and their commitment to serving fresh seafood makes it a worthwhile dining destination.
The calamari and mermaid roll was excellent! Lot of good seafood options. Very friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. Perfect spot for a girls night.
Long wait times in the weekend but worth it if you plan ahead, put your name in the waitlist and go for a stroll around town until your table's ready.
Mermaid is all outdoor seating at the moment which was great, because we got a table by the water. The service was excellent. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful. The food is over-priced but good. We paid as much for an appetizer as we did for an entre. It's nice to try once, but I wouldn't come back, because it's over-priced for what you get.
Came here for lunch in June. Riverfront seating is what drew us here. Service was good, food well-prepared, but a little overpriced. Ceviche was 'ok', and somewhat bland- but mahi mahi tacos, and fish & chips were done well and tasty.
visit this Bar & Grill 3 Days ago direct on the Saugatuck harbour after a beach day nearly
the dune’s. It was a recommendation of a friend. Very beautiful location and view to the lake ! I ordered grilled calamari and lobster roll 😋 very delicious! Service und food quality very good ! Hope to visit Michigan again and do a Stopp again !
Ate here twice while on vacation. Fantastic location, good service and great food and drinks. We had a large party and they couldn’t get us all at one table but sat us near each other. If you like seafood this is the place to go in Saugatuck! Get the mermaid roll. Like a lobster roll but with more seafood (crab and something else I can’t remember)! Yummy drinks too.
We stopped here for lunch because they allowed dogs. We ate outside under an umbrella. Everything we ordered was very good from the clam chowder to the fish and chips and jambalaya. Big portions. The restaurant was pretty busy but we got our food at a decent time. Would definitely come back.
Very nice and quiet restaurant. Food was delicious, fast, and prompt. Above Parr.
The Mermaid was recommended to us, and we're thrilled that we decided to stop in. We had lunch, lunch, and dinner here the past 30-hours. The outdoor dining is incredible - right along the Kalamazoo River in the sun and with a great breeze. The cocktails are delicious, and the best one - the Rum Runner - is half off during their happy hour. The blackberry brandy is what makes it so good. All of the food we had was good, but the standout for me was the Salmon BLT - I had it both days.
We ate here for dinner with a group of six. They were able to seat us earlier then our reservation which was very nice. The atmosphere was cool. Dog friendly place. We had a nice spot overlooking the water. We ordered white a bit of things. We got the walleye, shrimp cocktail, lobster roll, the burger, and the salmon. The lobster roll could’ve had a tad more lobster and the shrimp could’ve been prepped better but other than that we had a great time and enjoyed our meals. I would highly recommend this place if you want a nice view and a solid dinner. We will be back.
Seated under an umbrella next to the river we watched the boats port and drift while enjoying crisp fresh wine sourced from each coast. The boardwalk with passers by is the perfect backdrop to incredibly fresh seafood coupled with wonderfully zesty sauces and pastas. The seafood boil and diablo shrimp were our favorites. Our dog was able to sit at our table and enjoy the kind pets from patrons and servers asking to greet him. This is a kind place for pet owners and connoisseurs alike. You'll love it!
I am not from this area but my husband is. He always spoke highly of the Mermaid. We had been there once before for drinks but stopped for dinner last night. The food and drinks were very good but be warned, also very expensive. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. The only negative were the hostesses. They were not very welcoming. There were many tables along the water that were open and they wanted to put us in the back in a corner with no view except a parking lot. I asked if we could sit near the water and the hostess acted as though we were being difficult. They didn't seem welcoming when we arrived nor did they acknowledge us when leaving. They were too busy on their phones. We are in our 50's and they were very young. Some better training in customer service may help. All visitors should be treated with respect and be made to feel welcome.
We ate here twice during the July 4th weekend and it was such a great experience both times! To start, I really liked that they offer to put you on a wait list through their website. That was very helpful especially on a holiday weekend. The view of the boats and water under an umbrella made it even more special. Now to the food. The menu is a bit pricey but the shrimp boil I had was delicious and something I wouldn't normally eat if not on vacation. Other delicious items: Diner Burger, Coconut Shrimp and Fish & Chips. The Blackend Mahi sandwich was very good but a little small for the price. I may have just gotten a small fish with some bad luck on this particular day! Will definitely return the next time I'm in Saugatuck.
