I work late evenings, and when I'm done at 3am, my choices are here, Denny's, and WH. I've tried them all, and all have their good points (who doesn't like hash smothered at WH??). That said, I always keep coming back to this place.
Why? Service and the fact that even on a busy weekend night, the food is consistently great. The patrons also tend to be a bit more laid back as well... Less loud people and flying weaves, and more regulars just keeping to themselves.
Service... Always on point, and with a smile. Sometimes with some conversation if it isn't busy, and you want to chat. Brynn (Brinn?) in particular is amazing... Always remembers that I'm a weirdo and like tartar sauce with my fries. She (and the
other late night lady) are awesome! The chef usually comes by at least once to say hi and ask how the food is as well.
Food times average about 10-15 minutes between sitting down and getting your plate, depending on how busy they are.
The food... Good. It isn't going to get any Michelin stars, but my BLTs are always very well made with lots of bacon and perfectly toasted bread, and the eggs I've had several different ways are cooked perfectly. Fries are the yummy battered variety, and always hot and crispy.
The chefs will hate me for this (they're a pain to make), but the only thing they're missing is eggs benedict. My arteries thank them for not offering it though.
I tried a piece of cake once (took it to go) and it was freaking amazing, but very rich. Definitely plan to share a slice as they're big.
Come to DoA. Bring an appetite. Tell Brynn you want tartar sauce with your fries. :)
Our server Steve was probably one of the best servers I've ever had! He was funny and paid close attention to our needs and was on point! I'd truly recommend going and if possible have Steve wait on you. He's an awesome guy!
We now have a new owner from Ohio, and he is such a GREAT person!! He has a absolute hilarious personality and is defiantly a people person! He has lots of new updates and add-ons and ideas for The Diner and he IS the person this cute, friendly, delicious restaurant needed and has been longing for! We also have some new great employees to add to some of the great regulars you know,( me being one, lol) so come in and have a great hot delicious meal, anytime of the day or night, 24/7!! Hope to see you!!;)
We came here twice yesterday. First for breakfast. I had the bacon egg and cheese sandwich...it was huge! Marty had a wall lie and it was great. We came for dessert last night and once again great food. Service as excellent both times!
Great food and staff
I'm in food management and the diner is the best around
Great food. It was crowded, but worth the wait. Places that aren't crowded do t have customers for a reason.
I have been coming to this place since the 90s....it has had several names and many changes, ...BUT.....OMG... the current staff and menu are amazing... the quality and taste of the food is truly delicious especially for a foodie.... the shrimp and grits are awesome yet the burgers are divine! Have had several meals here as of recent and every time i have been met with a polite staff and awesome lil hole in the wall diner! Definitely a must try!
Since we love diners, we decided to stop in while visiting from out of town. This was a diner reminiscent of an old time diner. We enjoyed our breakfast foods, and they had nice sized portions. My daughter especially enjoyed the Elvis memorabilia on the wall. Most importantly, the staff were super nice. We will definitely stop in again the next time we are visiting the area.
This place is incredible! The atmosphere is so cool with the Diner feel.
Our food was fresh and absolutely delicious. If you love bacon, this is the place to go. The bacon has a smoky taste and it literally melts in your mouth.
Went on Friday and they had bingo night! It was a wonderful atmosphere with top notch food. They have so many types of milkshakes! I ordered the horchata milkshake and loved it!Cannot wait til my next time that I make it back on a Friday night!
Maybe we were just desperate for food after 11pm, but this place wasn’t as bad as some folks are saying on here.
In town for a baseball tournament. We didn’t get done with our game on a Thursday night til after 1030pm.
With my son famished, most places were closed by this time.
Turned away by McDonald’s and Buffalo Wild Wings were in over their heads, with over an hour wait for take out.
Stopped at the Palace Diner.
As you pull up it may not be the most welcoming looking place, but the employees were very friendly and helpful.
Picked up 2 Reuben’s, a cheesesteak, Chicken finger basket and a BLT as well as 5 chocolate shakes.
The initial bill wasn’t awful, but after the added gratuity and 10% “after hours fee” the bill was over $100.
Not TOO upset over that, as the neighborhood doesn’t seem to be the kind for tipping well.
The staff needs to make $$ too.
Have to say, the shakes needed work, as they were pretty flavorless, but the meals were pretty darn good!
Quick and efficient in my experience.
Don’t sleep on this place! It’s better than it appears!!
Loved the 80’s tunes cranking!!!
So glad we stopped and ate here. The food was so good. Our waitress was quick to take our order. Our food was quickly cooked and was delicious. The hamburgers are thick and huge. The Philly steak and cheese was very tasty too. Clean bathrooms and plenty of parking.
I was initially very hesitant to eat here, but my friend insisted. And to my surprise, the food was good. In regard to seasoning, it’s minimal so I added salt and pepper to taste. The food came out hot and cooked to a golden brown, quiet surprising. The potatoes were cooked well and they we soft where it needed to be. Also, the diner had military discount for all the military people out there. I rated this four stars because the appearance of the restaurant. The outside of the diner appeared closed and worn down. The inside has an Elvis vibe and is as clean as the inside of a Waffle House.
Food was good. I had a corned beef dish that was really delicious. It was an odd experience. We were the only people in the restaurant at 2pm but(our hotel was beside it) there were other, odd times, that their parking lot was full so my guess it's a local spot and has good food. If you're staying on Abercorn by the restaurant, it's certainly worth a try.
We just ate at the Palace diner, the Aloha Hamburger was without a doubt the most delicious hamburger we have ever eaten. The hardworking staff in the Kitchen and Carlos our server, were the absolute best! 5 stars for everything!! We had to come a long way from Ontario Canada but it was worth the trip!
It's been a while since my last visit. Really enjoyed the original owners and the way they ran the place. Next owner was absent and the staff was out of control. Dk new owner but the place was dead at 11pm. They are open til 12am and this is a plus since most restaurants in the area are closed by 11. I was the only person there so service was direct and friendly. The food was good. Great Chicken Philly and the 1/2lb burger wasnt bad either. Night time menu is cut for easy, quick service. Hope they pick up. Server was hospitable and the cook was clean and eager to sling. Not bad Palace. I'll drop in again sometime soon!
Note: late night hours automatically add 20% tip to your bill. No big deal as I also tipped the cooks and server separately.
Great place that cook burgers to order.
No ginger ale.
Got some fries and a bacon cheeseburger.
After watch night service last night, my family and I wanted breakfast and dinner options. We discovered this 24/7 diner like waffle and huddles houses - The Palace Diner on Abercorn. It wasn't crowded at the time we got there, which was perfect!
I like to give credit where it's due. The food was DELICIOUS and SAVORY! Kudos to the cook and the hostess for holding it down. (The crowd started coming in and they had to turn some people away or give them a 30-60 mins wait time. Unfortunately, all of the staff but the two working quit between last week and yesterday.) Nonetheless, the cook let us know ahead of time that they were short staffed and asked for our patience. That's what we did!
Whomever, is the owner should THANK the two remaining staff. They were even able to serve the mini groups that came in for takeout faster than they originally stated.
I highly recommend this diner! (Great food comes from quaint or unsuspecting places.)
We must be kind to people serving us and treat them with integrity. You never know what people are going through. A smile, patience, and gratitude as a customer towards the staff go a long way! Thank you to the Palace Diner on Abercorn.
P.S. They are hiring. If you need or desire a job, check them out.
Great little Diner! We arrived late to town, and stopped in for some supper! We opted for some breakfast food, but they have a ton of options to select from, including a Vegan menu! Our Server was Sky, who was adorable and had an excellent personality!! Thank you guys again, very much!!
